Meister R - GT1 coilovers review - UPDATED 2018 ver
RobPhoboS replied to RobPhoboS's topic in Suspension
A good reminder for a mini update I had my first taster of a track day, albeit on one of those airfield circuits at Woodbridge. I was laughing to myself along the way as it was snowing, and I was thinking this is sods law but actually it was for the best ! This meant I had to concentrate on learning the layout and how my car responded in freezing conditions but pushing on a bit. I initially left the suspension where it was for the road and I think later I softened it up a bit more. The surface there goes from concrete slabs to aggressive asphalt runway and everything in between I was very happy with the way the suspension performed, getting the power down on such bumpy sections was impressive. It's also why I softened it up a bit to try and soak up the ruts and whatnot some more. Even in a straight line I was able to get wheel spin in 3rd, just to give you an idea how cold it was. I've got 2 track days this month on 'proper' surfaces so I'll hopefully be able to ramp up the hardness on the GT1's. I've not been that lucky with the weather for any good fun drives, or I've been tinkering away on the car but I invited a couple of mates for a drive last weekend, finally For road manners they feel great, obviously I'm not pushing the car on the road as much as you can on the track but everything feels neutral, responsive and smooth. I still drive as I did before which is to avoid potholes the best I possibly can, every time I see one or happen to find one I want to find the pillock who is responsible for getting them filled in - WHERE IS HE !!!!! I want to get a few friends to try them out, get their thoughts too, especially the NSX chap as he wants to refresh the suspension on that one (160k miles!) -
Look on youtube - search there too

Pretty true this is. Well worth a read.

I thought the article was fine, I'm in no position anyway to have anything else other than the Z, so it's a moot point. On the getting better thing - well technically, technically the more you do something the better you should be getting anyway, experience/confidence etc.. Although if you heard me play my guitars, you'd have never guess I started in 1994, you'd probably think I just started I don't think there is a person in the world that goes on track thinking I don't want to improve my driving. Why would they even bother turning up ? The trouble seems to be, and usually for guys = EGO ! Always ego and not being humble enough no matter how big yer bank balance is ! We can all learn to be better, even if we're at the top of whatever you do - and if you don't think that you're a pillock (note that's NOT aimed anyone !). It obviously doesn't mean that any one of us is going to become an F1 driver but can we be better than before. (see The four stages of competence) Most people are stuck in 1 (driving, work, sex whatever). -
Check the manual but essentially yeah, it's what it says in there. I don't know if you really have to disconnect the battery, just pull the plug before removing it.

Try taking the MAF out (need a star socket for it), and use contact cleaner spray over it. Have a look on youtube to get the idea. My fuel gauge doesn't work properly so I just fill it to the brim, reset the trip and once it gets to around 250miles I fill up again. It's one of those jobs to do er soon

http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/nissan-350z-factory-service-manuals.html Download the right one, keep it on your phone - easy to have the right torque settings.

See you guys there in my GTR:

there is a post below your own one in the same forum talking about it...

Filling me with confidence Dan, cheers

Suzanne the LS3 6.2 V8! Caution very long build thread....
RobPhoboS replied to Wasso's topic in Member Build Projects
Erm, somehow I've managed to miss this thread until now. At least I've sort of skipped to the end -
I used to use this, seemed ok to me - and I got a hand pump garden spray thing from B&Q to mix/spray it on: Valet Pro - Citrus Pre Wash http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/valeting-and-bulk/valet-pro-citrus-pre-wash/prod_728.html I've recently used this - and it's really good too: Gtechniq W5 Citrus All Purpose Cleaner http://www.cleanandshiny.co.uk/gtechniq-W5-citrus-all-purpose-cleaner-grime I advise you to buy the small bottle of each and try, then get a 5ltr tub first. The only issue I see with that manual foamer is that it'll take some time but other than that, yeah why not try it.

Usually has an Allen key in the middle, spanner on the nut iirc. And as usual, check YouTube just in case.
-
Welcome to try my car if you want. I made a thread in the suspension section when I was looking, I was going to go with v3 but opted not to. Definitely research and see what you figure out.
-
Just to say thank you very much again for the bits and pieces, very quick delivery - all sorted for the weekend I'll start a separate thread for that

I went with GT1's from MeisterR, I've no idea about the CRD vs MS but I know that the customer service has been unreal from MeisterR. You can easily talk with them and if you did run into a problem it would be easily resolved.

Al - it's a can of worms you're opening without much info on your part Is this a daily driven car that you're going to drive on track a handful of times ? Or is this a car that's going to see the track a few times a month but needs to be driven there ? Or is it an out and out track car that's stripped, with a cage etc?

Wiring in an oil temperature sensor ? (for the inept)
RobPhoboS replied to RobPhoboS's topic in I.C.E & Electronics
Ah fantastic, many thanks for writing that up - big help I've got some heat proof aluminium tape for the sensor wire, which hopefully should shield it enough. With that NPT fitting, I presume hand/spanner tight is enough ? -
So some bits and pieces turned up today, and I just wanted to ensure I'm going to do this the right way Obviously here we have (from top left to right), the instructions, the sensor, a 3/8 to 1/8 converter, the gauge connector and a fuse tap (I'll have to check if I ordered the right size later). So do I connect the red wire to an extension, then into the fuse tap (I'll test which fuse, and which orientation to do it) ? The green wire to a wire extension to a fork connector onto the sensor. Where does the black wire go to ? I know it says the negative battery but where do you guys tap it? The gauge is going to sit in the cubby hole I guess for now. In the future I may use this on an oil filter sandwich plate rather than the oil pan spacer. Last question, the oil temp sensor thread is tapered, why is that ? I've got Loctite 577 for all of the threads if required.

Cheers for the input I'm doing the correction at my very good mates detailing company, and he has an amazing chap that PPF's all the superdooper cars. So in that sense, I have total faith in that guy as I've seen him working plenty of times. Obviously there's a difference between £60ish for some ceramic coating to help protect a bit, compared to probably £1k or so on PPF (I just pulled the figure out of my butt as I've no idea how much it would be).

Awesome stuff ! I'm not in a position yet to do this kind of thing regarding VDC but I saw some posts in the past, more so on the US forum about disabling this an putting a switch in. It's handy to know what the symptoms are so I can pay attention as time\experience moves on. The only thing I do feel is that my ABS kicks in quite early even on the road, which I guess is down the CL RC5+ pads ? In terms of videos, there are lots on the basics, like brakes\suspension etc and some on some more advanced stuff too but I think more the merrier. But are you planning on a differential or anything a bit more 'involved' ? Each time I want to shoot a vid, I'm usually left in the lurch and want to crack on with the job.
