  1. Looks like this could go on and on! As every other DE vs HR post I've seen seems too. Davey..........I agree and disagree the DE is a bargain but then so is the HR what else can you get for the money of either that does the same? If you just want to go fast buy an impreza that down the road would kill a zed and cost you 2k. If you want big comfy and fast buy an old supercharger Jag for 5k, You buy a car cos you want that car and as such both car represent their prices well For the original question asked suppose all you can tell is everyone is pretty happy with what they've got. I was very happy with my DE that I had for years and I'm now I'm even happier with the HR I've had for 2. Both have plenty of mods available and both respond well to them. The best thing to do is make sure you get a good example of which ever model you go with, there's tons of info on this site regarding common issues and their fixes but nothing to be too scared of, especially if you're OK with a spanner in your hand! Good luck in finding a good'n and enjoy it, they are great cars
  2. According to Evo magazine a Porsche 996 GT3 is only 1 second a lap quicker round Blyton Park than a convertible Jaguar F-type V6............I know which I'd rather have! Stats don't always tell the full story.........they sometimes don't even tell the truth!
  3. Although there is 2 air boxes and associated pipe work they don’t weight much, plus the plenum itself is a plastic composit on the HR instead of metal like the DE which from memory was quite a bit heavier. Not by much but that would mean more of the engines weight is lower down in HR too which is beneficial for handling.
  4. Is the HR engine heavier than the DE? I've never seen that anywhere before, I'd be interested if someone has a link to something factual to have a read up on it? Making components heavier with the intention of revving higher seems unlikely to me! I owned a DE car for 4 years with the usual air filter, decats and remap plus lightened flywheel etc (which is a huge improvement over standard) and when I bought my HR car bone stock it was a totally different and faster car, don't get lost in the small output differences its the willingness to give up and access the power that the HR does so much better than the DE.
  5. Do like those mines lips, finish off the Zed's front end a treat That is some road trip!! You never got all that way with it looking that clean though? Mine looks like its won at 24hr le mans just going on a local run
  6. Saw you guys as you left and again on the A46 going home! I was in the 08 plate, night blue 350z I don't go to shows often but this was alright, good to see such a big turn out in general to have a look over. Obvious like the Zed's but the old skool skylines were my pick of the day........awesome cars!
  7. Only for sale due to my recent purchase of a set of 18" LMGT4's! These wheels need no introduction........they are the best 19's you can put on your Z. I had these fully refurbished in silver when bought completely original and undamaged around 2 years ago, they have only seen summer weather and are in immaculate condition, including Richbrook alloy valves and brand new nismo stickers Light weight forged wheels in perfect fitment: Fronts: 19x8.5 +25 Rears: 19x9.5 +30 Complementing these forged wheels are in my opinion the best road tyres available at the moment the Yokohama AD08R, these were fitted in July 16 and they still have loads of tread on them for the new owner to enjoy! The best price I can find the tyres alone at is £1069!! Fronts: 7mm Rears: 6mm Located in Warwick with collection only please Only chip on them! Close up for colour, finish and condition of the wheels And fitted..........As if you needed it!
  8. Spring rates are Front: 370 (+18% on OEM) Rear: 240-420 progressive (+23% on OEM) Cheers
  9. That is a tidy bit of fab and welding, nice job! at last it's fitted eh Rob........amazing what a difference it is driving when you don't have to brace yourself in your seat with your knees!
  10. For Sale Bilstein PSS10 B16 suspension, bought by me direct from Bistein in May 2015 and only removed from my car last week, it has never seen much of the winter and therefore any salty roads, covered roughly 12000miles and is in perfect condition as you can see from the pics. Includes everything you need to fit to your car. I have all the tools to adjust and have cracked off the spring perches to show they aren't seized at all and all adjusters move freely with positive clicks as they should. Do your research on this kit online and you won't find any bad press, build quality is what you expect from a higher end brand such as Bilstein and the performance on the road is a significant upgrade over standard or any budget suspension for that matter! Allowing 10 stages of adjustment you can choose to have a near oem ride through to firming up the car ready to perform on the occasional track day should you want Here's a link to all the info on this kit......and also the best price I could find it! Its for sale other places anything up to £2k http://www.bilsteinsuspensionstore.co.uk/bilstein-b16--pss10-48146142_p31029372.htm Spring rates are: Front: 370 (+18% on OEM) Rear: 240-420 progressive (+23% on OEM) Located in Warwick, collection preferred due to size and weight (if you're interested and are in Surrey I may be able to sort something out though! So PM me) £850
  11. I'm not Alonso but I wouldn't say I brake "early". I could brake a bit later but I do brake hard and make the choice to allow some margin on track......no one wants to be the guy that causes red flags! I'm not gonna be spraying any champagne and taking home a fat cheque when I see the checkered flag either so I'm never at my very very maximum, just in it for the fun and get home safe In Michael Gardner's vid I posted he does mention on a couple of occasions throughout about "the full 20min session" so I'm sure he's not talking about being OK for 1-2 laps when he says the Brembo's cope well. As for cheap or budget solution, at £1500 for a set of bone stock 370 brakes that are still going to require a set of proper pads and fluid to cope with any track work I think they're expensive. You can have an AP 6 pot 362mm front kit for around £2000. Like you I may be looking at a brake kit in the future and I think my first choice is the Performance Friction ZR31 kit, its a work of art! They use these for the Porsche Cup so they should be OK for our Datsun. As you say you're boiling the fluid, what fluid are you using out of interest? Also I'd like to see how you've done your ducting too.....its something I've thought about but its not the easiest routing to do.......post it or PM me would be good
  12. the question is are the 370z brakes worth upgrading to? Not suggesting there aren't better available, there are definitely better brakes on the market that will offer more power, better cooling and lighter weight from the likes of ap, performance friction and alcon and for heavy track use my opinion is that these are better to put your money in to. Budget upgrade I still think you're better off sticking with stock brembos and spending money on discs, pads, fluid, ducting etc rather than just stock 370z items for same money as upgraded brembos would perform better for same cost. from what you've written do you think the 370z brakes would stop you boiling the fluid? No.......I don't think they would. They are expensive and they are heavier and I've not seen anyone say they are noticeably more powerful. Your issue seems to be boiling fluid not loss of power from the brembos. What fluid are you using? ive never boiled fluid to the point of losing the pedal but I have had pad knock off which is frightening (on previous car) and I do think you get a bit of that with the brembos actually as the biting point does seem to move ever so slightly down the pedal sometimes but it's there when you get there
  13. What a great looking Zed and mint too! Very nice...............is that a mines front lip? Is that what cars look like when they've not been rained on all their lives!
  14. Cheers! The 19's were good but by comparison the 18's make the whole car feel lighter and more agile with more grip and feel too I'd say. As you can tell I'm wanting to concentrate on the chassis at the moment so with these 18's on and the new suspension which offers the next level on from the likes of the Ohlins R+T I'm hoping for nicer ride control and comfort on road with far greater adjustment and grip for when I go on track.
  15. New MCS 2WNR's have landed!! I can't wait to get these installed, first impressions of just of the quality of the machining on these is top draw. Unboxed and coudn't believe how light they are...............plus I'm sure the springs and top mounts save more weight too. Fronts 1.5kgs Vs stock 2.6kgs! Rears 1.4kgs Vs stock 1.7kgs Also very impressed with the trick adjustment for these.......all at the top of the shock so no more crawling around on the floor by the side of the road or track to make an adjustment and all built up with top mounts and Eibach springs........hopefully get these on over the weekend
  16. Martinh55 and Veilside we have a deal on that. PM me when you're wanting to collect
  17. Was just looking through some past pics the other night and this little gem popped up.........courtesy of my misses snapping the Zed from our hotel window in the Germany the morning before heading to the Nurburgring for a track day in Sept 2016
  18. No probs, it's the SPL toe links that lose the spring mounts I've got. Theres been loads written about the conversion to coil overs and the need to reinforce but I did loads of homework, asked on this forum asked in the states, asked MCS (who have sold lots of kits for the 350 under JRZ, Moton and MCS) and i couldn't find one report or photograph of a failure at all. I've looked at the area on the car myself and compared to my Evo before that uses very similar set up as this will now be and it's looking just as strong. Compare that to google searching the same fault with BMW's and there are pages and pages of images and companies everywhere happy to take your money to reinforce the areas that need it. I'll obviously monitor it and check as use goes on but I'm feeling confident it'll be ok.
  19. Sargara I wanted to run the AD08R tyre and as you say they aren't available in 275 rears. That said I found stepping the front up to 255 and reducing the rears to 265 has worked really well and even given the wider choice I wouldve gone with these sizes. No negatives to running them at all that I've found.
  20. Mark, hope you're good I'm going with coilovers in the rear so 300lbs is actually pretty stiff. I've had a fair bit of discussion with MCS about what I want from the car and how I'd like it to handle and this is their recommendation on what to run. Worse case it's only a pair of springs to swap out to try something else with the setup.
  21. Also i wasn't going to but have decided to change the suspension on the car. After loads of homework I went with MCS (Motion Control Suspension) and their 2WNR (2 way non remote) this will give superior ride and control over my current Bilstein's even with using much higher spring rates for far improved handling. If you've not heard of them they are headed by a guy called Jerome Van Gool, he was formerly of JRZ before forming Moton until they were sold to AST and MCS was born. Today I have collected my SPL toe links courtesy of Tarmac Sportz as I'm converting to rear coilovers. Then I get a very exciting email from Wyatt from MCS to say my dampers have been finished and have been shipped today!! Attaching a few studio pics of my actual dampers!! These will be coming with Eibach 2.25" springs, 600lbs 8" long with 12lbs helpers in the front and 300lbs 9" long at the rear. Fronts Rears
  22. After my slightly iffy evening session at Donington I was back there on Friday and had a great day! The car I can now confirm is 102Db drive by so I have to fit the 2xDecibel Devils I ordered and they do the job and get it down to a level that keeps me out on track! The weather was mostly good throughout the day with the odd shower and then total down pour at 4:30 so perfectly timed to finish up and head to the pub for a debrief of the day!! The new 18's felt really good and offered up more feel and grip I would say.........knocked nearly a second off my lap time from the other day but the temps were a lot lower so not sure if that played a big part. Sharing the day with my brother in his Vxr220, as always, is great fun but an added bonus to the day was sharing the garage with a really nice couple with their 911 996 gt3! My misses blagged a ride out in it and loved every second!
  23. I had ART pipes on my DE Zed followed by my HR Zed too! Both installed along with my Tanabe system Assuming you still have cats in at the moment then fitting these will free up a few HP (have a remap after to maximize the gains) and a bit more noise too. They don't have that horrible nasty rasp sound at all, like the Berks I had when very first bought my first Zed, just a nice low V6 note. Pricey but worth it for both HP gains and noise.
