I was thinking of that too Leonard Rossiter was great and so was Frances de la Tour and Richard Beckinsdale. Weirdly, Frances de la Tour doesn't seem to have changed one bit when I see her in Big School, in which she steals the show

My cottage in Yorkshire has always suffered from rising damp in some rooms because our water table is permanently high and some parts of the house are very old and were built without the benefit of foundations. My daughter and her boyfriend have just told me that the problem is getting worse with a water line now appearing almost at light switch level so I am wondering what I should do? A damp proof course had been put in on some walls before we bought the place but it had failed, although whether that was from age or if it simply never worked in the first place I'm not sure. When we renovated the cottage one room was extremely damp and the carpet that we took up was wet in places and the skirting boards had rotted away slightly at the bottom. The damp has now appeared on the same wall but on the other side of the wall and I am slightly worried that it might start to affect the electrics if the water comes into contact with the wiring? Even if there's no real danger of that I obviously need to do something as I don't want to return to a damp, smelly house that is crumbling away!! Does anyone have experience in this area? The wall in question is an interior wall but it used to be one of the old exterior walls and so the only possible solution I can think of, and I've no idea if it would work, is to have the bottom part of this wall, and maybe others, removed and replaced with different bricks/damp proof course? The upheaval from that would be massive though and I am scared to think about the expense. Am I thinking along the right lines?

Man Caught Eating a Woman in Wales...!!
twobears replied to WhackyWill's topic in Off Topic Discussion
That is one of the most horrible things I have ever read. Poor girl I wouldn't normally think like this, but I too am glad that the man died because he was so disturbed and dangerous that he was not fit to be in the world. -

Before you all shunt me off to my own 'special' sub forum can I please point out that my equilibrium is fully restored this morning. I've had a singing lesson which went well and I am back to my usual happy self No more moaning for a while I promise or I will sing extracts from the Sound of Music to you and then you'll all be as annoyed as I was yesterday -

I flew back from Madrid this afternoon. Flight was only short so why did the people in front of me and Mr TwoBears need their seats fully reclined all the way back? Is it too much to ask for two adults to sit normally for a couple of hours? I never recline my seat unless it's night time on a transatlantic flight when everyone is trying to sleep. We made good time to Heathrow but then had to wait 45 minutes for some steps to be brought out to the plane. Finally got off plane to be confronted with broken escalators. Then my e passport photograph wasn't recognised so they sent me into three different booths to no avail. When I saw a real human being told me that I had "changed my look". What, in a week?!!! I haven't even had my hair done and the machine recognised me on the way out so Madrid must have aged me The chap who was waiting to take us home was on the verge of leaving because he thought he'd missed us so that was a bit of good luck I guess but when we got home I drove to M&S, parked in an empty car park only to come out to find some stupid ox-like woman had parked so close to Stanley (car park still empty!!!!) that you couldn't have got a sheet of paper between the two cars. She was still in her car, yakking inanely into her mobile so I let her know my thoughts on her parking skills and she told me that she had had no choice because she had to make an urgent phone call. Fine, but the bloody car park was empty you silly woman! Was it going too far when I told her that her parking would have been just about excusable if she had been awaiting a phone call about a potential organ transplant? Right, I need wine

Thanks everyone. You are right 350zedd, I do seem to have let myself get wound up this past few days I think the third bad thing has just happened (cooker light bulb just gone pop and is still refusing to work despite me changing both bulbs and checking fusebox ) so I'm going to get the Sunday papers and chill for a while. Wine may be taken with lunch, or before if I deem it necessary

I really don't know how much more stupidity I can take from British Gas I have set up a direct debit with them TWICE now to pay for my gas and electricity and they still haven't taken any money from my account but keep sending me threatening emails instead. The latest one sets out the what they are going to charge me if I don't contact them. But I have contacted you, you bl**dy idiots I've contacted you three times now and every time you assure me that you have my details and that payment will be taken from my bank and tell me I don't need to do anything. What now? We are going back to Madrid tomorrow so I guess I will have to spend all my time in the airport trying (and probably failing) to get through to them as they will be 'experiencing unusually high volumes of calls'. Unexpected? That alone shows what idiots they are. I even sent them an email this morning, only to have an immediate automatic response pop into my in box telling me that they were 'experiencing high numbers of customers contacting them'. Oh, really. I wonder why that could be? Has anyone ever found a way of dealing with them that results in a satisfactory outcome? If so, please let me know. Thank you

Oh dear, that sounds worrying. Hope the police make some more arrests, including this thieving scumbag

Thanks Wendy I've calmed down a bit now and at least I know I can get it sorted out. Still annoyed with myself though

Problems with Safari (the browser not an exotic holiday!)
twobears replied to twobears's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Sorry Neil, I shut down the computer and went for a drive and when I came home and restarted it, it worked again No idea what was wrong with it but it just wouldn't do anything at all. The coloured wheel just kept spinning round and I couldn't get in or out of Safari. -

Ok, thanks In that case I will try switching it off and back on again. I'm all out of good ideas if that doesn't work but Mr TwoBears will be home later so he might have more of a clue. -

I'm a perfectionist, unfortunately and hate making stupid, avoidable mistakes. I'd love to be more laid back but haven't figured out a way to achieve that without the aid of 'artificial stimulants'

Thanks Vix. I'm away all next week too so that's not a problem. I'll look up the number

Thanks to everyone offering sympathy and practical advice I still feel gutted at my own stupidity but if there is something that can be done to fix the damage I feel better and also that I am not alone. I am the sort of person who beats myself up endlessly for minor errors and this was a whopper.

I know R_S, I am a useless idiot and I freely admit it. I panicked but that's no excuse. I have previous form but I've never done anything quite this bad. I would post a pic but I am too ashamed

Thank you GM I am so relieved to think that someone may be able to repair the damage. I will try to find someone when I come back from Spain. I could kick myself except I'm obviously so clumsy that I'd miss
