  1. Yeah, obviously dodgy, but what scam starts by giving you £4,800? Presumably if I reply like I'm interested then they realise I'm a sucker and the details of the deal change "due to unforeseen circumstances with the congestion at Singapore" and they try to play me with some other angle.
  2. Recent enquiry I had from a guy about my 370. He's the best part of £2k under the asking price, but as you'll see that's the least of the reasons why I'm not so interested! And it doesn't even add up, poor chap, I think after all that I'm £100 up on his deal.   3. Yeah, really conflicted. Got in the Zed this morning just to shuffle the cars around and came over all sentimental. Then I drove the M5 later on and remembered that it's not all bad!
  4. Well it's that time I'm afraid, the missus and I have been blessed with the impending arrival of a new family member and I've got to let the Z go.   5. No not really noted a problem with the clutch travel. I would be surprised if Nissan worried that much about it on a Z given the general agricultural nature of the transmission in general! Vibration is reduced but still present at 5k RPM, but the new shifter doesn't make a high-pitched whine like the old one. That's why I originally changed the shift knob to the Nismo one to try and cure it.
  6. Been on the wish list for a while this one, especially as my stock shifter buzzed like crazy at 5,000 RPM. So, after three years of the annoying noise, I finally got around to replacing the shifter with a short-throw unit from TWM in the States. http://www.twmperformance.com/shortshifters/nissanshortshifters/nissan370zshortshifters.htm The first pic is the stock shifter with a black Nismo gear-knob. The instructions supplied are pretty good, albeit with a few mistakes for the 370. You have to pretty much remove the centre console to give you room to work, unbolt the old shifter, then it's under the car to undo the linkage. The bottom rubber boot that protects the bushings and the base of the shifter from road grime is an absolute pig to re-install - took me almost 30 minutes just to reseat it! It was worth it though. Sharp, short changes and a much more solid feel - in fact it feels just like the short-throw on my old 986 Boxster S. I went for a big Type-R knob in graphite with the shift pattern etched in. Perfect size, it isn't actually that big, fits well in the hand and has a very reassuring heft to it. Don't bother with a new shift boot, the stock one works perfectly and the one they sent me didn't fit - might have something to do with the fact that there's a sticker on the inside of it that says "350Z" - so if anyone with a 350 wants a black shift boot with red stitching, PM me!   9. Nice, looking a lot like mine now! All you need is the fangs in carbon and we'll match. Looks better on yellow as they really stand-out, I'm in stealth-mode.
  10. My car's over three years old now and, as a daily driver, has picked up her fair share of stone chips. The combination of soft paint, 42,000 miles and The Best Colour have unfortunately left her with a very bad case of Edward Olmos face. So, armed with some paint, lacquer, wet and dry paper and a DA, I set about putting things right. Here's the old girl at the start. Step one: Full wash (foam x 2, 2BM wash, dry). I had so many chips to do I decided to mark them all out first using a liquid chalk pen: Step two: clean all of the chips using a cleaner provided by the paint supplier (see below) to remove any wax etc that was hiding out in there. Step three: paint all of the chips using the supplied base coat with a no 2 brush (2 coats, 30 minutes between) Step four: wait 4 hours for the base coat to dry, then apply the lacquer, again with a no 2 brush, (4-6 coats, 30 minutes between), ensuring that the finished lacquer was proud of the main surface. Step five: allow the lacquer 24 hours to cure. Alas in my case it was a week as I ran out of weekend, so I had to drive around with the pink circle paint-job for five days. Got some interesting looks, I can tell you. "What's that noise? Sounds exotic. Better turn around and see... oh, dear Christ what has that idiot done to his car!" Yep, there's a specific look for that. I'm sure you can imagine! I actually had one guy compliment me on the custom finish I was rocking. After I stopped laughing (at least 30 seconds) I had to explain to him that it wasn't deliberate. He looked very disappointed. Anyway, I digest. Step six: clean the car again (same method), removing the awesome "ballet shoe bubble" finish... Step seven: Wet sand. Here's the point where you really have to nut-up. Taking sand paper to your car (albeit 2500 grade) separates the men from the boys. I had at least three distinct "what the &*%£ was I thinking?!" moments, but push on I did. You need to keep the paper nice and wet and take your time. Step eight: wash again, this time with a full clay all over. Step nine: Time to mask the car up before polishing. All plastic parts that may be caught by the DA are masked-off. I used a flexible masking tape from Halfords that's really good on all those sexy curves. And here we are: Step ten: Polish time. You need a good cutting pad and polish to remove the sanding marks (details below), and this really is a job where patience is key. No pressure on the polisher, just guide it and let the pad and polish to the work. Any force you apply will just stall the pad and lessen the effectiveness. With the sanding marks removed I then gave the whole car a polish with a finishing pad and polish to remove any holograms and take care of the swirl marks. Step eleven: Final clean (same method again), making sure to remove all of the polish residue. I the finished with a wax to protect all my hard work, and here's the results: Not bad, eh?   11. It's a kick-down switch, but in the manual it's for disabling the speed-limit or cruise control settings. If you floor it the system realises you're serious and deactivates.
