You shouldn't really need to do anything, maybe turn it over every so often or take it out for a drive. Are you running normal cats? Sounds like one or both of them may have failed. Did the MOT place not offer any sort of advice? I passed my emmission test recently with HFC's (Which they're designed to do), but was worried about this test. I'd say the cats are the first port of call. Do you know any other members, there may be someone near you who has a set you could used for the MOT. At least then you'd know if they were the issue. If you were near Leeds I'd happily lend you mine.

Sorry to hear that, sounds pretty bad for only 61k! Was it a private sale or from a dealer as I'd be having words... I know it's pointless trying to diagnose what caused the issue, but did it have enough oil in?
