I try to please sleeps overrated I went to sleep about midnight and I've been up since 6 it was better than listening to the missus snore like a donkey
-
aren't you about the same age as me ?As for lack of progress the cheek of the man That arm was about an hour in CAD an hour in CAM and three hours on my mill but the part looks good
-
it might get a bit boring after this is done as I really need to sort out the interior and the bodywork really not my thing
-
But you're not young either well either that or you've had a really hard life (sorry Dan couldn't resist.)
-
Thanks I was quite pleased myself also you can't beat a bit of Sci Fi
-
So for you old people like me not going out on a friday night this is my latest offering first I welded a block of ally between the two middle ports then machined it flat and bored a 6mm hole through exactly between the two middle throttle bodies this first picture shows how it will be with a needle roller bearing either side of the arm obviously I wasn't going to use an old bit of steel with a couple of holes drilled in it so I machined something more suitable from some 12mm ally plate with a recess for the bearings top and bottom the M5 rose joint on the end is where whats left of the old throttle body will be attached Ok enough for now I'm going to have a bath watch Rogue One might play some more tomorrow
-
this project seems to be taking a long while for some seemingly very small steps for instance the spacers for the throttle bodies but all of these spacers are different and not just a bit of ally bar with a hole through it as can be seen here anyway enough of justifying my lack of progress, this is roughly the throttle linkage setup this is just a mock-up so i can get the geometry right (which it isn't) it won't look like this honest also today my camera seems to be like one of those mirrors that adds 20 lbs and makes you look fat the welding is not as bad as it looks in these pictures

Driving related probably 20+ times most in my early 20's mostly speeding and being a **** 1 somewhat more serious just before I met my wife 20 Yrs ago and 1 about 4 yrs ago no MOT genuinely didn't know it had run out so either my missus is a good influence or I just grew up.
-
Got the rest of the spacers made and fitted just need to sort out the last 2 throttle connecting tabs and then it's onto the job i'm dreading the throttle linkage won't get any more done until sunday as i'm on standby again only 1 week in 6 but feels like every other weekend never mind as long as it doesn't rain i'll get to stay in bed..
-
I can't believe it either get your act together
-
made up the spacers to join the throttle bodies together today the first one took ages as the throttle linkage comes in really close second was much easier also extended the tabs which connect all of the butterfly's together just got to do the other side now
-
if my M3 and M4 rose joints show up tomorrow I might get the linkage done in which case I can start to put it in the Z I'm gonna look pretty dumb if this doesn't work
-
I wouldn't say overly complicated just as complex as necessary if that requires a flux capacitor or force field generator then so be it
-
got the last of the velocity stacks printed yesterday I think it's going to look rather sexy if I do say so myself I've started on the throttle linkage which is going to be a real pain in the arse I've changed my mind more times than a woman about how I'm going to do it.
-
Excellent work as always
-
Progress is slow due to many reasons mainly the speed of 3d printing and having to work for a living but I have cut down the inlet runners 30mm off each side and made the velocity stacks 30mm shorter from 105mm to 75mm also the first red one I printed was downloaded straight off the internet and was designed for a 45mm Weber carb so the mounting holes were off and the face was flat so I've modified the design making a new mounting flange with a recess in it to suit the throttle body I have only made two velocity stacks so far another is on my printer right now so will hopefully all be finished in a few days
-
At last my sort of project
-
Going to have to make a new strut brace as well
-
No gonna have bonnet clearance issues already
-
As expected I'm going to have to cut the inlet runners to get enough room to fit the velocity stacks gonna cut 30mm off in fact I've just done one side I was going to use these 105 mm ones I made the other day(glad I only made one) but that doesn't seem feasible just not enough clearance will make a 70mm one to see how that looks
-
Hope to get this trial fitted to the z again this weekend to check clearances I think I may have to cut the inlet runners for clearance reasons then I can make up the spacers to join the throttle bodies and work out how I'm going to do the linkages I think that's gonna be a pain in the arse
-
that's pretty much exactly what happened yesterday mines only open till ten I knew I was going to run out but was too tight to waste what was in the bottle on an exchange so I just hoped for the best
-
a pic of the unfinished manifold fitted to check clearances a few issues nothing too drastic will get the manifold finished tomorrow once I've got some gas for the welder.
-
Another small update couldn't finish this today as I just ran out of argon for my welder but getting there. will get a new gas bottle monday and get on.
-
Not got the time to write much here got to go back to work (bloody standby) but this project is progressing. I'm off monday so you never know.
