  1. I know its a similar post to many others about squeaking brakes but can't find specifics in the other ones regarding 'when' they start squeaking, Had new DBA rotors, ferrodo pads and Hel lines fitted last tuesday, did the bedding in procedure with no problems and since friday it has started squealing but only when its virtually at a standstill, with your experiences does this sound like its just some crap thats got between pad and will work itself away or more a fitment issue shims copper grease?

    Ian

Adding shims to the rear of my brake pads killed 98% of the squeal I had. I didn't grease them though. Now it's very mild when braking from 0-5mph, and even that's possible to neutralise by adjusting the timing and level of pressure you apply when braking.

Used to have it very bad though, so I know how infuriating it can be :bang:

  2. Im sure there are still some deals out there. When i bought mine a few months ago i could have had an 11 plate white gt edition with 1.8k miles on the clock for 20.5k, thats one heck of a discount.

    Good luck with the hunt.

    Bloody hell!

Aye got to the point where i thought it was too cheap and wondered why. I wanted a roadster though so wasnt interested. Smashing deal for whoever bought it though.

Crazy cheap and would no doubt ring alarm bells

  3. Your parsimonious attitude the remaining petrol in the tank is bizzare. Not only are you chopping in your Zed for £2-3k below its private sale price, but you're also replacing it with a Cayenne turbo! Peculiar accounting methodology indeed...

Also, I remember these going for £10-12k during the credit crunch in 2008. A missed opportunity!

  4. OK so pads changed with front shims - squeal reduced significantly but still some noise from the rears. Will put those on next weekend when I have more time.

Brembo pads not as good at stopping the car, but they're good enough and the earsplitting shriek from the car has disappeared

OK so I put the rear shims on today. Made a big difference to the squeal, which has almost entirely stopped. I am still getting some if I brake a very low speed (<5mph) when the wheels are pointed hard left or right. Can anyone think why this would be?! Seems very strange..

Apart from that, it's bliss driving around in it now.

I've also noticed that the brakes are working much more effectively now. On reflection, it was probably a bit silly to only put the front shims on. That extra 1mm of thickness on the front pads was messing around with the brake pressure (or something). Note to others - put shims all round or not at all.

    Cheers,

    DT

  5. If i was in your position. I'd be looking at an 04/05 model - cheaper tax and +300 bhp.

Then exhaust, panel filter and uprev.

    job done :)

Interesting thread, because my plan was to potentially "upgrade" to a minty low mileage 08 next year, when I have a bit more cash. Need to figure out whether the extra £4-5k would be worth it. And not only that, but also have to factor in slightly higher depreciation, insurance and VED as you say.

  6. I looked at a very well looked after 2005 black roadster 18000 miles only fully equipped with sat nav , leather etc fsh, uk registered but one strange thing ! It has heated leather seats , cruise control , bird view sat nav but the log book does not mention GT ,could that be an admin error or any other suggestions , I have paid for a car check and it has had no insurance claim. Any suggestions as I am keen on buying it for £8700.

That's a great price, assuming it's in sound condition (should be after only 18k miles really). Snap it up.

  7. Because of the Rays and low miles i'd say about 7.5k in todays market. Wouldn't add a penny for the exhaust, not because it's good, but because pretty much every single aftermarket upgrade loses pretty much 100% of it's value come sale time if it's still on the car.

    Sadly, true.

Mine had a new clutch at 48k. Previous owner lived in London and all that gear-changing malarkey might have aged it somewhat prematurely, although it appears to be within the general mileage range for clutch failure according to other posts on here...

  8. I had a bit of fun with a brand spanking new TT RS Roadster on the way home from work a few days back and that did look very nice indeed. It was slightly quicker off roundabouts than I was, presumably because they have 4wd and are a fraction quicker 0-60, but from about 30mph upwards we were totally neck and neck. Had a look on the internet when I got back home and they are about £40,000 !!!

If he was that level with you, then he wasn't trying. The TTRS is fast as fook, and I'd do well to keep one honest in the 911.

336bhp, 4.6 0-60. So not hugely more than the 313 zed in the real world. Maybe he wasnt trying, but seems strange that he followed me for 8 miles, waiting for me to put my foot down, then when we did have a bit of fun he wouldnt try. Either way, they are very nice cars and very tuneable. But for £40k you are spoilt for choice really as to what incredible cars you can buy.

4.6 to 60 is about a second quicker than the zed which is a lifetime, plus it is lighter, 4WD and with more BHP. Theres no shame in it being quicker than a zed due to being about £20k more when new......

Yep, that and higher Audi servicing and component costs etc. Guess it's fairer to compare the TTRS to a Cayman, price wise.
