  1. To be fair it`s not all about numbers, it`s how you drive the car & how well the map suits your driving style. If you love the revs get a 313 with the higher rev limit out the box & a bit more top end power, if your one to use the whole rev range stick with a 276 & get an UPREV. I`ve driven numerous of all 3 variants, modded & un modded including numerous 370`z modded & un modded. Unless they are boosted or running nitrous theres bugger all difference on the road.

Have a feeling I may have just opened a big can or worms

And that I believe, is precisely what I wanted to hear.

    End of thread! :)

  2. I think the problem with a lot of Caymans is that they appeal to a slightly older demographic and are therefore bought in sales rep grey without a sports exhaust. Saw one in "dark azure blue" with black painted alloys the other day and it looked pretty good. The exhaust note is extremely dull though isn't it? And as for the interior  . Get a 1989 911 3.0 SC in guards red with a whale tale instead :cloud9:

On the other hand, M3s are exclusively bought by 23 year-old chavistanis. It's just not worth the black eyes you will incur. Which is a shame because it looks ok for a BMW and is allegedly a very good car.

  3. Never driven a B7 S4 but most reviews put it behind the 335i, the B8 is suppose to be match for the BMW and has some very good tuning options. If they had been cheaper 12 months ago may have bought one instead of the 335i. They also come with a trick diff/4WD system thats suppose to be quite good.

The BMW eDiff is a rubbish, a proper Qauife LSD transformed my 335i.

You can now pick up a good 335i with a BMW warranty and all the essential toys for for £15k. Take it Birds BMW for Quaife LSD and remap for roughly £1.7k and your have a very sorted car pushing 360-370bhp for under 18K (if you wanted to, add on some better downpipes and intercooler and 400bhp is easily achievable. The N54 engine came with forged internals stock and over the pond people have achieved 450bhp without having to undergo a rebuild!!) B) ...oh and it doesnt sound half bad, and trying doing this in a V8 (and no it wasn't a 51 mile long down hill run) :D

Sounds tempting, but what will a 400bhp figure do to that admittedly impressive MPG? And I'm guessing the remap will void any warranty?

Only problem with these amazing 3/5/M BMWs is their familiarity and boxy design. If you can reconcile those little issues then why not?

  4. the advantage of a 4x4/suv is not the off road ability its the fact that the vehicle sits so much higher

    I know these things

But I won't compromise on this - don't forget you have a fun car too ;)

I did notice an XC90 down the tip the other day which had a V8 badge on the boot though B)

Those volvos are surprisingly fast - had a real battle keeping one at bay on the A21 the other day. Couldn't understand how a 5-pot non-turbo diesel was keeping up with me...

  5. presumably you're buying an estate for those occasions where you need to cart three others and boot full of luggage around too? I haven't driven any of the cars mentioned here, but why not save "thrill" funds for the weekend two-seater toy and spend sensible amounts on the estate? If you buy a 350bhp V8 Oodi S4 or something along those lines, you might find that it starts to eclispe the zed, or make it less enjoyable...

Get a diesel octavia for £10k and put the remaining £8-10k (and servicing budget!) to put towards an R8/GT-R/XK-R or whatever exotica you can afford.

I doubt an S4 will eclipse the Zed in the smile-per-mile factor

I've thought (and am still thinking!) about this but can't really justify running two cars. Hence the careful thought about buying the 'sensible' car with the most character.

If you can send me a link to R8's and GT-R's for £10K though, I'll take a ride out and pick them all up tomorrow ;)

To put TOWARDS an R8! I guess you'll be needing a £50k war chest for either of those two...

It would be silly to run a Z and an RS4/6 avant at the same time, no? Or perhaps meet half-way and go for the RS4 saloon? Compared to some of the others mentioned on this thread, I'd imagine the depreciation on one of those would be slightly more bearable. They are potential classics. possibly-ish.

  7. I don't think I've ever commented on one of these detailing threads before (think it's a bit... OTT), but I have to say, those zeds look brand spanking new. Problem is, when I take it to the friendly albanian chaps down the road for a wash a couple of weeks later, what do I tell them? "use fresh wabbit wool mitts please"?

Once done it's not too hard or long winded to look after yourself.

Having said that, I spent 5 hours today doing my daughters Punto. (first ever wash, clay, polish, seal and wax).. (no photos)

Note that I live in an apartment and the car is parked on the street. I have precisely zero access to a hose / pressure washer / garage etc.

Not sure I can be arsed with the whole "two bucket method either"....

  8. As above - have a small ding in mine (UK 2005) but it's enough to make me want to change it. No structural damage, just looks like a depression from someone reversing into a bollard. It probably won't smooth out because it's plastic....unless bodyshop guys can fix that sort of thing?

One slight complication - it has the parking sensors. Don't ask me how it happened - previous owner's fault

    Cheers

  10. Anyone use one? Seen one hanging off the back of a Z before, and it looked weird. I can get one bike on the passenger seat with wheels & saddle removed, but it's difficult to use the handbrake in that situation.

    What to you guys use?

  11. ...moved in directly opposite, last night an Audi R8 Spyder rocked up, tonight a Bentley Continental Flying Spur. I had to pop over and introduce myself, turns out the fella works for a supercar club :yahoo: said he will be bringing a GTR back this week and should snap some piccies of it next to the Zed. Was very complimentary about the Zed as it happens

And you didn't ask him for a job?!

  12. Agreed.

With all due respect Wabbit, how you can go from something as pretty as a 313 drop top to a 123d is beyond me. Technically brilliant I'm sure, but my god they're fugly. Just as well nobody will notice, because it's a BMW.

159 2.2 JTDM Ti would've been my choice in your situation. At least they look nice!
