Might have to keep the Nismo exhaust for contingencies as you say....
-
That Ark does sound pretty special but the sit a bit low and a prime speed bump fodder...
-
It's recommended but I certainly didn't notice and difference when I got the HKS filters in mine. Nor I in the 350 - might just save the wonga until service/replacement time.
-
Haha yes sorry the EXHAUST!!! :-)

Very interesting factoid re the 370's learning ECU. Skynet @*!#! Looks like I'm just going to keeps things simple and modular for the time being and start by replacing the exhaust and leaving the cats in place. No uprev or intakes at this point - if it works nicely then I'll be done with it. If not I might explore more options... Thanks again for all your help, will let you know how it sounds over the weekend. DT p.s. Looks like there will also be a 370z nismo for sale here soon, any idea on value @ 7k miles?

Interesting points, particularly on induction. At £460 the K&N is a bit flipping toppy as well. Might just do the panels but I'm not even sure if they add any real value (apart from being non-disposable / washable).

I would just change the system - well I have... And I am doing it again in Saturday. I have a stillen and moving back to my old friend cobra. - which I loved on my 350. I have alllllleays been put off with decat/HFC due to the CELs and other things that change when changing those components So you're saying the real "sonic choke" in the exhaust is not the cats but the silencers in the backbox? So I should just stick a cobra and panel filters in there and be done with it? Have to admit that I loved the rasp of the HFCs on my 350z...

OK guys I've found an insurer which aside from having a 14 day cool-off has limited charges for cancellation (<£50) and pro-rata the difference based on use/365. This will have to do for the time being. Thanks again for your help. I might be posting an ad for the 350z here soon at an extremely attractive price, so have your wallets at the ready... DT

As above, the insurance is due to lapse next week and obviously I don't want to pay another £600 odd quid to renew it for the year, only to get massively stiffed on redemption fees and/or receive only half of it back if I sell the car a mere two weeks later. Yes I am disorganised Yes it has been a very busy few months. Thanks, DT :-)

Well the main benefit to my 350 was the improvement in throttle response. Now unless the weak link in the Nismo’s chain is a 50kg flywheel I’d say it needs throttle de-limiting more than ever - it’s so depressingly lazy. I guess there’s no guarantee that Abbey’s remap will be any more accurate than nissan’s but I’m really not bothered about horsepower because it has enough of that. I’m speaking to them about options and both the dealers and Gumpy have confirmed that the Cobra will fit snugly underneath the 370 chassis. Decatting is not a problem – the car won’t need an MOT for another two years and I have a friendly mechanic who cares even less about trees than I do J . Main issue is whether it will push the car too far the other way and make it unbearably noisy. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Berks on my 350z though, they add a wonderful sense of theatre. Need to figure out induction options too. Has anyone fitted CAIs / pop chargers, or just made do with boring old panel filters?
-
Thanks Sipar, I though this kind of exhaust alteration required some kind of uprev remap to properly implement but it appears as though you've found a workaround. I'd be grateful if you could share more details with me on this. Furthermore I was also think about decatting completely and also adding some k&n intakes. I'm guessing this might be harder for the engine mgmt system to deal with Rahther than hfc+cbe?

The mystery deepens. No biggie either way - it's a Nismo not a £37k phone charger!
-
Hmm weird. Well it was plugged in, 75% at the start and 60% at the end of the journey so no charge. Unless the bluetooth drains the battery like a motherf*cker?!
-
Already put a deposit on gumpy's Cobra, that Nismo POS is coming straight off! Was tossing up HFCs or Decats and erring towards the latter. Might also be thinking about some induction mods (don't care if a lose a few horses). Any CEL issues with your stillen / hfc combo?
-
No - it just kept my HTC One at stable charge rather than increase it. Better than nothing but I might have to use the 12v adapter thing in future which is annoying...
-
Due to the size of the exhaust and associated components (wouldn't fit in the back of a 370z!) I wasn't able to pick it up over the weekend. I've paid a £30 holding deposit to gumpy subject to courier collection at some point over the next two weeks. Thanks again for the deal. DT

noted re mpss but they made a more noticeable difference on the 350z imho. They were also a better tyre in terms of feedback, sidewall softness and most importantly, wet grip. Gonna be a while before I can change them though. having done another couple of hundred miles I have to say that the car is defo faster but it a the lack of exhaust note does make it psychologically harder to appreciate that. The aero seems to work well; amazed at how stable it is at 140mph. Which is when the 350z would be getting all nervous. However I think the drag from the wing does limit top speed and it wasn't making much headway north of that. has anywone cracked 150 without needing a runway? Other annoying niggles; crap steering wheel buttons, tiny glove box, usb doesn't juice enough to charge a phone, using the bottle holder makes changing gear harder, the wing mirror vibrates too much, nowhere to conveniently store sunglasses, Bose system simply not as punchy as the 350, still no reach adjustment. But these are all forgivable even taken as a whole. But that bloody tyre noise and wind shear argh Nissan wtf... absolutely loving the chassis though, just deliciously engineered. Such a pleasure to swing around in!

OK chappies I thought I'd pen a review of my 370Z Nismo Mk1 which pretty much resonate with the other views. Bought a black one because it looked the most menacing(!) and the bumper colour matches on the white and silver models were hilariously poor. Previous motor for the last three years was an upreved 350z DE with Berk HFC & Milltek exhast. Also had Whiteline ARBs front & back, MPSS & Ferodo DS2500 pads: Positive: Stunning in the flesh, gets stared at and photographed everywhere. Big chassis improvement, nowhere near as firm and unforgiving as the journos would have you believe. Great compliance, no body roll, nicely biased towards mild oversteer, grips grips grips, good feedback from the helm (given that it's not an Exige). Actually prefer a slightly lighter clutch action as the DE was on the heavy side. Slightly shorter gear box throw + 1st > 2nd much quicker. Noticeably quicker off the line. Synchro Rev is cool but does take some of the fun out of driving. Negatives: Absolutely woeful engine note. This is going to need some serious induction and exhaust mods to sound anything like a 3.7L V6. Quick off the line but the bum dyno simply isn't detecting the feeling and sensation of speed - probably a lot to do with the muted exhaust? Engine feels badly synced to the gearbox ratios - that kind of thing. Felt faster in the 350z! Terrible tyre roar from those bloody Bridgestones. Literally cannot wait to get some MPSS on these, only 8,000 deafening miles to go :-( Lazy throttle response - I mean ridiculously diesel truck lazy. I cannot believe they've engineered it like this! Crying out for an Uprev de-restriction and lighter flywheel. Brakes are a bit soft / lack bite. Some other niggle but otherwise I'm enjoying it. Needs a lot of modifications to get it singing which is annoying (but not uncommon these days uness you're in an F-type). Abbey Motorsport will no doubt enjoy emptying my wallet again :-( BTW the Mk2 looks better in the flesh than it does in the pics, but the rear bumper is still too wide relative to the ducktail spoiler. Best aesthetic enhancements are inside the cabin which is nicer than the Mk1 with darker plastics (none of that cheap shiny silver argos midi system crap), those lovely but less comfy recaros and full alcantara wheel rather than 50/50 which feels weird in use (change of steering wheel texture while turning is not nice). Still prefer the Mk! - the dropnose, alloys and spoiler just make it for me. Horses for courses. DT

Btw I put an offer of 600 cash in the whole kit and kaboodle assuming I can pick it up from Norfolk on Sunday?
-
Btw will 350z de berk hfc fit the cobra and Nismo combo?
-
Ta very much :-)

Dear dealers I'm looking to buy another member's Cobra exhaust system (the whole kaboodle) to put on a newly acquired 370 nismo (2014, not the MkII) I assume the undertray fitment is perfect and the tips perfectly align under the rear diffuser? How's the "tip protrusion" relatively to the OEM system? Also, what decats would fit best with the cobra and would they be unbearable loud relative to HFCs? I have the latter on my old 350 and absolutely loved them but the nismo won't need an MOT for two years. Quite happy with a loud sound but obviously looking to avoid motorway drone... Thanks, DT
