Firstly, Don't let the brake reservoir run dry, If you get an airlock I'm reliably informed its a real pain in the arse to bleed.
If you have any rubber brake hose still attached to the metal brake pipe at the top put a hose clamp on it. If you don't have a hose clamp use a pair of grips as the hose is broken anyway. See the attached picture. As you can see from the picture I cut mine of as I was replacing it with a braided line.
