  1. Welcome along! the 106 looks great - but a 350z will be in a different league
  2. wow that looks awesome, loving the rims! bet you must be over the moon
  3. I think its normal, when you're coasting down hill in gear a modern fuel injection engine will be using zero fuel, and simply be using gravity and the wheels rotating to keep the crank turning. I'd imagine when you then accelerate down hill, the engine needs to wake up so to speak and start injecting fuel again - I think its this hesitation that you can feel - and I think the jolt is often exaggerated by being in a lowish gear.
  4. well if its running on slicks, they'll need temperature to work properly, so get those tyres warm! few burnouts should get the rears warm, hard braking and cornering needed to get the fronts warm. other than tyres i'd imagine general track driving rules of being smooooooth with inputs... want to be braking nice and hard, then peel off the brakes as you turn in, balance the car on the throttle through the bend, then squeeeeze on the power as the corner opens up. try not to overdrive the car in the first lap, when you're on your own do two laps at 70%, then the next at 80%, then 90%, then you've got two all out balls to the wall screamers to set a time. the worst thing you could do is spin on your first lap which then knocks your confidence for the remainder. Have fun out there - much jealous, would love to try driving a single seater.
  5. Nice one Karrah! if you're coming along on Saturday you'd be more than welcome to take the beemer out... after all, you can't be any worse than McBlock in it...
  6. Its gotta be Bizz, the amount of work on that zed is phenomenal. And Csmith's entry means that Amy's has been relegated to third for me! this month must the automotive equivalent of the group of death in the world cup...
  7. Take the MR2, especially if its just been turbo'ed!
  8. well, kinda ready... i'll be making sure the tyres have pressure in them, and thats about it! although we do have spare brake pads if absolutely necessary, although id rather not fit them at the track as the beemer will be getting a full brake overhaul after bedford.
  9. Nope I work for Prodrive in Banbury, but we do quite a lot with JLR.
  10. we use these guys to flock centre consoles for Jaguar, so they might be able to help you out? They might only be business to business though. http://www.qualplast.com/ based in Birmingham.
  11. How does +150 bhp grab you? You need a rotrex supercharger from TTS, supersports kit should do nicely. http://www.tts-perfo...upersport/c1cnp £3850 plus another grand to get it fitted. Theyre based down near silverstone.
  12. your y pipe looks like this one: the two chambers or in it are simply flex joints, to allow the exhaust to move around a bit. They arent the cats. Standard nissan cats look like this (attached to a standard y pipe): whereas decats look like this: or you might have high flow cats, like the decats, except with a chamber with the catalytic material in:
  13. 4inch for me, the 2 inch looks silly IMO.
  14. given that you'd only get £120 for a tonne and a half of car, I don't think 30-40 kgs is going to get you that much... if its in good nick, stick it on ebay with no reserve, you might get £50 for it.
  15. i really hope everything doesn't have a 2 litre turbo like everything else, sounds so dull. I don't care if it makes 400 bhp, its still dull. hopefully it wont happen, after all Jag are still using superchargers mated to V6s or V8s to make power, the way it should be done.
  16. yep, mine were worn a lot more on the inside. never go by just how the outside face looks, need to get the wheels off to inspect properly.
  17. yeah the look like decats to me, which explains the noise... could it be because the cobra system you have is quite old, which is why it doesn't have markings? or possibly the tips were replaced at some point which might be why they have no markings? didn't early cobras have a problem with the clamps not being very good, and a few owners lost a tip? just saying cos the clamps don't look standard cobra either.
  18. what for? track toy and occasional weekend b road blast get an elise, day to day driving or GT cruising it would be a 370z
  19. turbo conversion in a weekend? that's shifting some! hope you get it sorted in time for Bedford, i'm interested to see how fast it is! you've still got a passenger seat in it right? our BM is prepped and ready! and by that I mean, the tyres have been inflated to the correct pressure, and it has some petrol in it - lets roll!
  20. its a lot of money to spend unless you're really serious about drifting, after all its far too compromised for use doing anything else. if I was you i'd buy an old bmw 325 or 328 for peanuts off ebay, strip the interior, weld the diff, then spend a bit of money on coilovers and bucket seats. you'd learn a lot more as you and the car progress together, rather than buying a car which already has everything done. Also if you're learning you'll need lots of money for wheels and tyres!
  21. what exhaust system are you running? cats or decat, amount of silencing and so on?
  22. A resonated exhaust just means the soundwaves bounce around a bit inside a chamber in the exhaust (the resonator), and in doing so some of the sound frequencies (often the droning) become less pronounced/ cancel each other out. Therefore a non resonated exhaust will likely be a little deeper and a little louder on start up, and then there is more risk of droning while cruising. Personally I would get a pipe with a resonator built in, even if it costs a little more.
  23. hmmm just up the road from me... but i'm fairly happy with my cobra for now
  24. PS my cobra exhaust with a resonated centre pipe sounds awesome by the way, so much better than standard!
  25. Have they actually said what qualifies as hellaflush, and what they're actually banning? Because there is lowering a car but still retaining standard or better than standard driveability (for example a track car) and then there's running a car so low and with so much camber the ride is severely compromised. I assume airride and slamming a car whilst static at a meet wont be outlawed.. it'll just be if you attempt to drive with the sill an inch off the floor, and it'll be at the police officers discretion as to whether he deems your car too low/camber too extreme. This means they'll also have to specify exactly what classes as 'hellaflush' which might be tricky... even people who are 'hellaflush' cant agree on what 'hellaflush' means
