1. fade into obscurity? each of the 6 episodes of the current series have pulled in over 6 million viewers... the Christmas special pulled in over 7 million viewers. that's a lot of people who like top gear, i'd say its more popular in the UK now than its ever been!
2. Yeah I always run summer tyres all year round and have never had a problem. I don't drive like a tool in winter though. this is exactly it - ifI drive anywhere when the temperature is close to freezing or there's any kind of dampness on the roads I know there is less grip around and drive accordingly. Plenty of trackdays in wet and near freezing conditions have taught me a lot about summer tyre performance (or lack of) in less than perfect conditions! really looking forward to the temps warming up now, looking forward to being able to drive my car properly again
3. To continue running 225 front and 245 rear, the maximum rim width would be 9" front, 9.5" rear. thats an inch wider than the standard 350z wheels, which run a 225 front 245 rear. if you want to run a 10.5" rear you'd really need to step up to a 275, unless you like lots of stretch. if you're looking for black wheels with not too many spokes it sounds like you'd be looking at Rota or Japan Racing Wheels as a starting point.
4. hmmm unfortunately I had the misfortune to read that article... however, thanks for the link as it lead to this far better article by Steve Coogan, which neatly sums up my views on topgear and the completely unnecessary racial slurs, which aren't funny and don't add anything to the show. http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2011/feb/05/top-gear-offensive-steve-coogan I like top gear and I hope it carries on, this current series has been very enjoyable for the most part. however I would like it if they did away with the racial stereotypes, it is getting very old. And also the blame lies with BBC, sure Clarkson and co are the ones saying the lines, but the show is not broadcast live - the editors should be saying 'hmmm, that didn't really work - lets cut that from the broadcast' I don't blame Clarkson for saying 'slope' for example - he's just an actor, he's given lines to say and he says them. The BBC shouldn't have given him the lines in the first place, or tried it, decided its not very funny and simply edited it out. same with Clarkson mumbling 'nigger' while reciting a rhyme - in that case the producers rightly decided not to air it, but the footage was leaked anyway.
5. I'm looking forward to Top Gear on Sunday evening. oh, wait a minute...
6. Are you planning on driving in the few days between lowering the car and getting the arches rolled, or will the car just sit there?? if you know its going to rub, i'd definitely be rolling the arches before driving anywhere - no point risking £300 on a set of rear tyres! alternatively if you need to be mobile, do you have any narrower wheels you can put on the back while you wait for arches to be rolled?
7. Clarkson: And on that BOMBSHELL - I've been suspended!
8. first stop, check the wheel bearing... jack the car up, give the wheel a wiggle side to side and up and down - there should be no play.
9. well that's that, sold for £530 on fleabay, buyers came and trailered it away this morning! went for a fair bit more than I was expecting, but a good start towards a new track car, and we still have a set of 18" wheels in my loft ready to go on a new car
10. well even though we only had our BMW 330ci for a few months before we ruined it, when we did have it it was a great car! so good in fact that I've seriously considered buying a BMW 330ci (coupe mind, not a convertible) as a daily driver. just feels so solid and well put together, even ours which had done 143,000 miles. we're now looking for another 330ci, will post up when we find one.
11. welcome! yep you're right, it needs spacers, lowering, a stubby aerial and possibly an exhaust as a bare minimum!
12. hmm that is quite a lot of oil to top it up! ah well, not a lot you can do about it now! just keep checking it and topping it up in the future!
13. how much did you need to put in to fill it up to the full mark? full amount in the sump is around 5 litres. And yes, up to full is correct.
14. definitely works best when stone dead cold - and remember, the only bit you're actually interested in is the bit between the min and max mark - anything thats smeared up the dipstick when you've taken it out can be ignored. its relatively easy to get a decent reading, its getting it back in the hole that i find difficult - who designs a dipstick with so many notches along its length?
15. chin up, those things arent too bad. then once done you shouldnt have much to worry about for a good few miles
16. many happy returns dude! hope you're having a great day!
17. This is what formula 1 needs to get the excitement back - big ramps! and 4 wheel drifts, and vehicles that lift an inside front wheel a foot off the ground when cornering Oh, and the third place finisher rolling his truck over the finish line, getting it right side up and then carrying on with the cool down lap... I've never seen such ridiculous circuit racing before - they arent going slowly either! rallycross is good, but its got nothing on Aussie Stadium Super Trucks!
18. he doesnt sound converted dan... he bought them yes, but doesnt seem hugely impressed with them, compared to a cheaper alternative...
19. night and day i'd agree, your 200bhp MR2 would wipe the floor with a 500bhp Bentley round somewhere like cadwell park
