    Tyres

ah that explains a lot... yeah, you should have gone for a 40 profile in those widths on 18" wheels. general rules, when going up a wheel diameter (18" to 19"), and keeping the same width tyre, drop one size in profile. when going for wider tyres (225/245 to 245/275, but keeping the same wheel diameter, drop one size in profile. when going up a wheel diameter and getting wider tyres, drop 2 sizes in profile.
  2. define active... but im sure a mod could tell you the number of people who have posted in the last week, for example - or the number of people who have posted at least once a week for the last year. Or even once an hour, for the case of Stevo and Ekona!
  3. rather than look at the reviews that the general public give a tyre (bearing in mind different usage/perception of what is 'good'/driver ability) instead look at the multitude of tyre tests on the same site, here: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre-Tests/#summer You'll be particularly interested in the ultra high performance/max performance categories, and even from a quick glance it appears that Continental ContiSportContact 5s and Goodyear Eagle F1s fare very well in numerous tests.
  4. mate this is a 350z forum, why would we be interested in a black A4?
  5. Wow those are some stunning photographs! Must have been absolutely amazing with the roof down on the alpine passes
  6. So it was you making the smoke! Every time I came past the pits I thought someone had had a massive off at redgate
  7. Not sure yet, the next few months are a bit busy! Will see what comes up.
  8. aye was a good day! 230 miles done, beemer was handling well. had a few excursions onto the grass on the exit of the old hairpin - keeping it pinned down the craner curves often meant my line into the old hairpin wasnt as wide as it should have been. also taking huge amounts of curb on the apex helped a lot, anything to help carry speed onto the uphill section! still struggling a bit with understeer, although i think a lot of that was the front tyre pressures getting a bit high - dropped them down to 30psi hot and they were working better. Also now we have so much rear grip, starting experimenting a bit more with trail braking into the apex, to try and get the moving a bit more and the front turned in. its getting to the point where we'll need to start looking at proper alignments to get the car handling how we want it to.
  9. if its a flat spot try slightly overinflating the tyres, and then it'll wear off with time. give it two weeks/200 miles, if its still juddering and the wheel is correctly balanced then i'm afraid it may be a duff tyre.
  10. oh yeah im fully expecting our £800 beemer to get round corners a lot faster, but should sound epic going down the straights! that is assuming they actually do any driving... most times I've seen expensive stuff on trackdays, they rock up sometime after lunch, do two or three leisurely sessions then go leave again!
  11. Whoop whoop trackday tomorrow! And weather is looking spot on, temps in the high teens, sunny intervals all day and a light breeze. BMW is good to go, new tyres are now nicely scrubbed in. Should be able to carry a lot more speed out of Redgate and down the craner curves and through the old hairpin, and then again through McLeans and Coppice and onto the back straight. Might need to change the front brake pads at lunch but we'll see how we get on - we have the pads and some copperslip just in case we need to make the change. Lots of cars signed on as is the way with javelin days, but some highlights to watch out for including a McLaren 12c and an Aston Martin DBS, and a couple of radicals. will try and get some photos and videos as we go, will report back on sunday!
  12. first check the balancing, and if you're using spigot rings at all check that it was put back on. but most likely thing is the tyre aint right - what tyre did you have put on and how closely does it match the one on the other side?
  13. i've been with admiral for a good few years now, me and the fiancé and the track car are all on their multicar policy. they sorted a claim for my old Honda civic without too much hassle - bit of to and fro on the settlement figure, but then cheque received promptly in the post. And they didn't really hike up my premium that much for my next car, which was the zed. Yes the auto renewal thing magic price hike is a bit annoying, but its only once a year and its only one phonecall to sort all three cars we own. and the not covering mods never really bothered me as I don't mod my cars that much. but main thing is they're way cheaper than anyone else on the old gocomparetheconfusedmeerkat sites.
  14. have a butchers on here for inspiration of sizes, offsets and how different wheels look. http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/79656-all-encompassing-wheel-size-offset-thread/ tyre sizes are easy, they need to be within 1% of the original sizes for the TCS to be happy. most common size for 19s is 245/35/19 front, 275/35/19 rear.
  15. why did you book the work first, then think to maybe question the price!? Anyways £300 is rather pricey, so politely cancel the booking and instead take it down to a local exhaust place and get them to have a look at it. Bear in mind a repair job will likely only last a few years, so depending on how long you plan on keeping the car you might be better off buying a full stainless replacement, cobras and scorpions are only a little more than your first quote for repair.
  16. awww man this sounds awesome, but have already arranged my stag do for that weekend! Rockingham is a great circuit, you'll have a blast!
  17. i'd say easiest and cheapest way to go really fast in a roadcar is a Subaru Impreza with beefy clutch, intake, intercooler, exhaust and a boost increase to around 400bhp, in a car that weighs 1200kgs. Theres 330bhp per tonne, then put on some decent tyres and use the 4wd - 5000rpm, sidestep the clutch and away you go!
  18. interesting to look at the torque figures but that's certainly not the be all and end all of it... diesels make plenty of torque but rather lacking on power... something like an S2000 also lacks torque but has plenty of revs to keep the power up, and its obviously light... anyways, most fairly decent modern stuff is pretty equal to about a ton, as power to weight ratios aren't that different, powerful cars tend to be heavier as well. unless you can find a rare exotic breed of car that's both very powerful and very light, they'll all be fairly similar. however above a ton, wind resistance starts making a big impact, and at that speeds you need absolute power to push through it. http://strikeengine.com/performance-car-specs-0-60-0-100-power-weight-top-speed.html
  19. wish I could learn to drift in an mx5 again... it is the most fun you can have with your clothes on, the feeling of satisfaction when you start to get it is the best in the world!
  20. This is a long shot as they're more well known in the german car market (Porsches and BMWs) but does anyone have any experience of DesignTek exhausts? They do a reasonably priced exhaust system for my BMW 335i, but I've never heard of them before! It looks like they do two options as well, a standard sports exhaust, and an exhaust with two remote operated bypass valves for extra volume when requested, which is the one im looking at... Also, anyone have any experience with exhausts with electrically controlled valves, do they sound alright, are the valve mechanisms reliable? I've always liked the idea of a quiet exhaust for cruising and when the fiancé is in the car, but then a demonically loud exhaust for when I got out for a drive on my own. Thoughts and opinions greatly appreciated!
  21. That'd be the M45, Jct 17 off the M1 towards Coventry but don't tell anyone!
  22. as said before, you need a large difference to really pull away from someone on the road - a standard zed really isnt that fast either, 276bhp and a whole load of weight only equates to a 0-60 time of 6 seconds flat... and a 125i will do it in 6.8 which isnt that far behind. in the real world they'll be pretty similar up to a tonne, even more so if the zed is only giving it 7/10ths and the beemer is giving it 9/10ths.
  23. Define 'best' are you looking for power gains, induction noise, filtration properties, cost, longevity... All of that said, JWT popchargers are a popular kit on here.
