  1. PS when it comes to tyres, stick with the brands nobody has heard of. all that guff from Michelin, bridgestone, Pirelli and continental is just good marketing, really all tyres are exactly the same, only difference is the price. Also brands that 'sound' premium often are - so Diamondback are good here. Evergreen are very eco friendly tyres, and Autogrip do exactly that - provide grip for automotive tyres.
  2. I've heard things about Achilles tyres... And Acceleras. And used to run Landsails on the track car, great tyres!
  3. oh yeah, if you actually have a V8 under there i'll let you off!
  4. that sounds about right to be honest... full asking price in your hand and sight of licence and insurance before he takes it out.
  5. considering doing this on the track car - great for acceleration, at the obvious expense of reasonable cruising rpm, fuel economy and absolute top speed (none of which matter for a track car!) You'll also have to work the box more. If all you do is country road blasts and don't mind a bit more noise and bit more petrol burnt when cruising, then go for it. However, the zed has a very nice torque rich motor which goes pretty well in any gear - if it was a smaller peaky engine like in an S2000 it might be worth it, but would be detracting from a zeds ability as a GT car.
  6. DE, definitely. i really dislike the humped bonnet, spoils the lovely clean lines of the car. if the car was all angular and V8-ish, then fine - but part of the appeal of a zed is its gorgeous lines.
  7. agreed, was in vegas a couple of years back and there were a few cruising up and down the strip (along with loads of other nice stuff, fezzas and lambos were quite popular!)
  8. we like the fed rsrs on our beemer! although we have no other trackday tyres to compare them to...
  9. think I might sit this one out, have a relaxed last weekend before wedding!
  10. i dont think so... XL tyres are just slightly stiffer sidewalls to support extra load, but you might find a bit of extra stiffness helps with turn in. its the same rubber and the same tread pattern though.
  11. On this one i was using 235/35/19 Front and rear, i know should be wider on the bk but it came with those ones n they were in great shape still, the brand of them was starting with an A but dont remember exactly, not the best though. Enviado do meu SM-G925F através de Tapatalk ah that would explain why you had the TCS off! And yeah, theres only one half decent tyre brand beginning with A, which is Avon... my guess is you were running either Acceleras or Autogrips, maybe Achilles... which are living up to their ditchfinder nickname do yourself a favour and make sure the next zed has the right sized tyres on it, and are a half decent brand, will feel soo much better and safer to drive, especially in the wet. I had some Acceleras on one of my old cars, would quite happily wheelspin in 3rd when the torque kicked in, even though they had plenty of tread. quite alarming, replaced with some Falkens as soon as possible!
  12. I don't think they were fully clued up there... they were probably used to working with more mundane stuff where the wheel and tyre sizes are the same all round, and 'putting the rear tyres on the front' would normally mean taking the wheel with it! unfortunately with these things unless you actually watch them do it, they'll often do the wrong thing!
  13. also just wondering what tyres were on it? a zed needs decent boots on to get the most out of it - be worth checking what tyres your next zed has
  14. sheesh that looks bad, glad you are alright! little bit more caution needed with the next zed, and perhaps keep the TCS on!
  15. exhaust is a good choice, lots of pops and crackles! sounds like a rally car! and a blow off valve for 'tsssh' noises
  16. I've just bought new wheels for the beemer, and could very easily put winter tyres on the old 17s that are sitting in my attic not doing anything, but.... im not going to. I figure if it snows, I probably shouldn't be driving a 300bhp car anyways, and will probably borrow the missuses car, or get a lift from someone. Winters aren't that bad round here, last winter I never had a problem, there was very little actual snow.
  17. im struggling to think what you could do to a 645ci to be honest... wheels and tyres aren't really 'big plans', neither would be an exhaust... and surely no one would put forced induction on a 6 series (hilarious though that would be) im thinking its going to be handling related... ARBs, coilovers and geometry check, to make it feel more like an M car. ooh ive got it... since the MR2 is going, are you gonna bucket seat and cage the 645? and rob a bank to pay for slick tyres and decent brakes?
  18. got any grandparents still driving? since i'm guessing they'll be as likely as your mum was to ever drive the car!
  19. in order of restrictions against power, its probably cats, y pipe, plenum spacer and air filter, then exhaust. if you're keeping the free flowing cats you'll be unlikely to feel much difference in power, and you'll still get the rasp from decats, but just wont be as loud. I think you'll be fine swapping a K1 for a HR exhaust.
  20. welcome to the forum! your last point seems a little strange... but generally the pedal on the right controls how much performance you have and how much fuel it uses! Suppose you could always buy a throttle controller and put it in the laziest setting?
  21. im hoping its decats and side exit exhausts. i'm not optimistic though!
  22. cos he's awkward and controversial everyone knows the one you want is the GTR, because GTR! He'll rabbit on about purity of chassis and steering of a rwd car compared to a less adjustable, safer 4wd car, or some such nonsense... however given the choice, I bet dan would go for a GTR!
  23. I've never known exhausts to squeal... i'd be looking at belt tension, gearbox and diff oil and condition, maybe wheel bearings... brake squeal should be easy enough to rule out. my guess would be driveline related, probably around the diff.
