  1. Those sizes in the picture are 245/40/18 and 275/35/18.... So pretty much the same as you are suggesting, don't do it Zeppo. I'm out of my depth arguing about this but visually it looks retarded. And I bet the TCS wasn't too happy either.
  2. in summary, either 245/40 and 265/40, or 255/40 and 275/40. Ekona and his 35 profile rears is just wrong
  3. in ekonas defence, standard size tyrewalls differ slightly... but only by 2.6%, which isn't particulally noticeable! PS post #22 - glitch in the swear filter matrix?
  4. that'd work too, but I went for 255/40 and 275/40 as it more closely matched the standard sizes. but yeah, definitely 40 profile on both front and rear, with either a 20mm or 30mm stagger.
  5. I'm still not convinced... difference in rolling radius between a 225/45 and a 245/45 is -2.66%. The difference between a 235/45 and a 265/40 is only -0.07%... so you'd get TCS issues surely... whats wrong with 255/40 and 275/40? would sit nicely on 9" and 10" rims, keep the stagger, keep the same rolling radius to the original sizes?
  6. wont that have problems with the TCS? surely the rears would also need to be a 40 profile to match the fronts, a 35 on the back would be too small a diameter?

    RIP 911

yeah, after all a lot of what makes a porsche a porsche is still present and correct - flat six engine, slung out behind the rear wheels. obviously still looks the same. Plus its inevitable that things will be going turbocharged, but that does mean that turbos will continue to get better.
  8. silly question... does it have oil in it?
  9. of the two, i'd have the Maser... rarer on the roads, looks better now the aston has dated a bit. But the main reason is the Aston would seem a bit slow... doesn't even have 400bhp to play with in the V8 version - it'd have to be the V12, but then the price goes up considerably. However, if it was my money I wouldn't have either of those - it'd either be an early manual Audi R8, which has a great high revving V8 up front, or a really nice BMW M6, because 5 litre, high revving V10! Plus has the advantage of usable rear seats as well. Heck, would probably even consider a Porsche over the Maser and Aston. Either way, looking forward to seeing which way this goes!
  10. if it can't be jump started from a donor battery, i'm not sure what good a new battery will make... although it will definitely eliminate it as the problem! spose if its a few years old a new battery is probably due anyways.
  11. im presuming its the not starting associated with a flat battery, ie starter motor fails to turn, rather than a fuel or spark issue? how old is the battery? if something drained the battery right down while you were gone, I'd expect it to need longer than 10 minutes idling to charge up again. get it running, give a nice hour long drive and then go from there. The worst thing you could do if you have a slow drain on the battery is buy a new battery, as a slow drain will make that one go flat as well.
  12. i'd be very very surprised if you failed the driveby on that exhaust. keeping the OEM cats will make a huge difference to the noise level. And also, i'm sure I saw on the cobra site (possibly before a update) that the resonated one was 88db, and the non resonated was 90db? Bedford has a driveby limit of 87.5db, which equates to around 98db static - they advise if you static test close to 100, to take it easy on track and build up the noise level. but i'd be very surprised if you get kicked off, have seen all manner of stuff at Bedford, porsches, fezzas, aston martins, McLarens, all lapping quite happily!
  13. put it down to the nuances of the car? which means either... drive it above or below the point of annoyance, turn the stereo up more, buy a louder exhaust, or buy a better soundproofed car! my car had any number of squeaks and rattles - had a really annoying rattle from somewhere round the back that in three years I never managed to pin down. If all you've got is a barely audible whine then count yourself lucky!
  14. when the red oil light comes on, its often too late already. but yes, stop immediately and put more oil in!
  15. put oil in it back up to max mark. Check it every week until you can be sure its settled. There's naff all you can do about any potential damage now anyways, what's done is done, so no point worrying about it. that said, if the level was on the dipstick at all that means there's probably still 4 litres in it - when our track car went bang it needed 5 litres just to get on the dipstick, then another 1.5 litres to read full. that was really empty!
  16. sigh... this *will* be my next car... but not yet. gonna run the remapped 335i for a while, but this will be the car that follows it! All the best with the sale! Curious as to what comes after a 5 litre V10... surely it can only be something with an extra litre of capacity, and an extra pair of cylinders...?
  17. surely there are three that are always a good starting point, them being: Tyreleader Oponeo Camskill ?
  18. sweet, well if all that means that little old me can carry on running high powered petrol engines then i'm in!
  19. Whats going on with it this time?!? Seems to be on the down again, Sainsburys is currently selling both petrol and diesel for 105.9p, gone down 4 or 5p in the last month or so. Is it on its way below £1? I put it down to all these people buying hybrid/electric/ otherwise fuel efficient cars, thus reducing demand and price... thanks Gangzoom!
  20. on the other hand, the cobra tips do stick out a bit... ideally need to be adjusted so they sit back about an inch.
  21. 3.9 to 4.08 wont have a huge effect, thats barely a 5% difference. but yes, a proper LSD should help with traction.
  22. cobra resonated for me!, sounds ruddy lovely just on its own. must do mod for a zed. sounded just glorious.
  23. i've never known of a car having a problem with running out of fuel - it just stops until more fuel is put in, and then it carries on as normal. Did you actually run out of fuel? and what grade fuel did your husband put in it? and on an obvious note, does the engine have oil in it?
  24. I got bored of saying the same old thing in response to this question - thought i'd say the opposite and see if anyone noticed
