    Brake fluid

I managed to source some super blue from carparts4less, but the mechanic who bled the system did comment on its colour. Apparently brake fluid has to be amber colour. but you should be able to get type 200 easily enough.
  2. 3 pennies a side worked a treat on mine! Still have to do a balancing act though - balancing the bootlid on your head on a cold day, lest it try and kill you!

    Brake fluid

changing the brake fluid after every trackday?!? that's a bit keen! they only reason you change it is because it absorbs water which lowers the boiling point, and its not going to absorb that much water in a day. if you do actually manage to boil the fluid then maybe get it changed, but in 3 years of trackdays we've never boiled ATE superblue fluid.
  4. Very nice, and you've managed to put a car on 20s without it looking over wheeled... the way the car sits on those wheels and tyres looks great
  5. alignment, tyre quality, tyre width and pressures are all adjustable with standard suspension. if you're looking for less understeer you can toe the fronts out a tad, fit wider front tyres, drop the front tyre pressures a touch, or fit cheap rears (not recommended!) I used to have an mx5 I made the mistake of deliberately fitting cheap front tyres compared to the bridgestones on the back. Never known a rwd to understeer so much!
  6. I think they've got longer to go before they start going up again... the 350z was made and sold in much greater number than any of the desireable 80s and 90s cars were, so its going to be a long time before they start getting rare - plentiful supply will mean prices are low. Also, theres really no reason why they should start being scrapped, we know the engine is good for 200,000 miles if well maintained. Rust may start to become an issue though, as the earlier cars are now starting to bubble up on the rear arches in most cases.

    Brake fluid

We've always used ATE Super Blue racing fluid on track - really cheap and haven't had any problems with it after numerous trackdays. EDIT just noticed I think Super Blue and TYP200 are the same stuff, except TYP200 isn't bright blue in colour.
  8. well knowing eBay's ability to skyrocket in the last hour of the sale, I've gone quite high - £7,600 I think I put. but frankly, I haven't the foggiest!
  9. Something more of interest to the oldies... bit of harmless fun for everyone else! A guy at work found this 'beauty' on ebay... a 1983 Peugeot 505 STI. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugeot-505-STI-BARN-FIND-only-used-for-1-yr-when-new-then-stored-gen-7-000-mls-/361411512097?hash=item5425ce0721:g:nJoAAOSwT5tWI8SV this then lead to a lively debate on what it'll sell for - on the one hand, its a not particularly brilliant old Peugeot saloon, but on the other side its incredibly rare and only covered 7000 miles from new, so is practically fresh out the showroom. The guys in the office have a sweepstake going as to what it'll sell for - anyone on here care to make an educated guess? Closest to the right answer wins... the respect and admiration of their fellow forum peers?
  10. schweet, suspected it was really only standing water we'd need to look out for, and that should be easily avoided. The alternative if the weather gets really bad is putting on some 50% worn RE040s on the back and some 50% worn Marshalls on the front... really hope it doesn't come to that!
  11. I suspect the problem is that they're getting harder and harder to find decent examples - take the 300zx TT as an example, could have picked one up for £1500 a few years ago but now decent ones are £4-5k - rust, engine failures and crash damage will be taking a lot of these cars off the road.
  12. go for it! We'll be there from 8am til 5pm on Saturday 24th. best plan if you fancied coming along would be aim to get there for 12midday, then you can sign on over lunch ready for the afternoon. Unfortunately the weather is predicting rain from 1pm onwards at the moment, so hopefully that will change otherwise we'll get a chance to try federal 595 RS-Rs in the wet...
  13. Quick update on the old track car... Did Donington a few months back and the car was properly mint - the speed that you can carry through corners now with the new tyres is quite frankly silly. Keeping it pinned down the Craner curves and then taking huge amounts of curb at the old hairpin to slingshot up the other side is great fun. Car is really feeling fast now. And then did Blyton park in august, only a short track but the beemer was going well round there, again great corner speeds, highlight of the day for me was slowing reeling in a lotus elise and him moving over for me - which on a short technical track far better suited to an elise than an old BMW saloon, was quite impressive I thought! Did however have a major problem in the afternoon at Blyton though - the diff started making a horrible whining noise and turns out it had leaked out all its oil... which meant it was day over. Again ken took the car home and sourced a replacement diff, which also has a shorter final drive - we now have a 3.38 diff to replace our old 2.93. Also put through its MOT which required finally patching the hole in the exhaust, and fitting a standard wheel so the airbag and horn work. So next trackday is Bedford GT, this Saturday! Its a track we know very well, but this will be the first time we've driven it with decent tyres, AND we now have a new shorter diff fitted, which I cant wait to try out! Bedford has some long fast sweeping corners which will really show the grip from the new tyres, but also some tight hairpins where the new diff will greatly help will acceleration onto the straights. Theres also a lot of serious metal coming this weekend (GTRs, atoms, M3s, M5s, 911s) so will be able to pit the beemer against serious machinery and see how she does. Not sure whats next for the beemer now - its in a pretty good place in terms of performance, I suspect we'll just be keeping it in brakes and tyres now and enjoying it! in order to get meaningful performance increase now would require major investment in either engine or chassis which would probably be better spent on trackdays. Will try and post some photos and vids after Bedford of how shes looking now.
  14. an MOT test is not allowed to remove engine undertrays and covers, so its a way of covering themselves in case there is a problem underneath one of them. same with being unable to view brake pads - all they can do is look at them rather than dismantle anything - not even sure the wheels are taken off for an MOT test.
  15. in fairness, 6 of those failures can be summed up in three words - replace front tyres. weld the crack in the exhaust and swap on a new wheel bearing and you're good as new again. you want to see a long and varied mot history you should see my wifes 206 - pretty much fails every year now on a variety of different things, think it might be time to get rid!
  16. yeah very useful site! nice to see a car I sold 5 years ago is still going strong as well.
  17. do you have other extras associated with the GT pack, namely heated leather seats and the 7 speaker BOSE Stereo? if yes, then you probably have cruise control as well.
  18. its the thought that counts! any car related gift is a step in the right direction and should be rewarded. Makes your life a lot easier when you're trying to justify £1000 on a new exhaust when the old one is still working perfectly well
  19. ^ unfortunately I think that's the only way to do it that'll make any sense! possibly on a square plate, ie JE5 4BBS possibly with a subtly placed bolt to make the 4 look more like an A. but i'm clutching at straws here, JE54 BBS does not say James Abbs!
  20. 0-60 in under 5 seconds for a remapped version certainly isn't to be sniffed at! although not quite Lamborghini troubling pace, unless the Lamborghini in question is a 1970s one!
  21. I think you'll find they're 17"s... and yeah they're the proper base spec alloys, don't even think UK zeds were ever sold with 17" wheels, hence why I asked if it is an import. http://www.350z-tech.com/wiki/index.php?title=Wheel_Specifications With regards to the plate, I just mean do you have the Registration certificate V5c document, with the RD06 MEL number stated and your name and address as the registered keeper? if you do, the plate is yours to do with as you wish, regardless of owing finance on the car...
  22. the wheels aren't even that, they're the 17" wheels that only came on the imports - is the car a JDM version? also, if you have the V5C for the plate in your name and your address (which you would do as you own the car) then its your plate to do with as you please. if you put the plate on retention the DVLA will automatically issue you a replacement number, can do it online these days.
  23. theres little in it between the 335d and the 335i - the petrol makes about 20bhp more, but the diesel counters with a lot more torque. Both respond very well to a remap. Ultimately I much prefer the sound and ability to rev of petrol, but 90% of the time I drive it like a diesel, ie cruising along the motorway! and get it in coupe form and its not so bad looking either
  24. dont listen to music at work, but currently have Timber by Pitbull/Kesha stuck in my head... don't know why! On my drive home i'll be listening to Deadmau5.
  25. hi from an ex-owner in leamington! - check the service history is up to date and the big services have been done on time. - try and make sure its been run on super unleaded. - look for a replacement clutch in the history, if it hasn't been done it'll be £600-700 to rectify, use this to bargain. obviously check for slipping when driving it (dual carriageway, 5th gear, then floor it) - check around the rear wheel arches for rust bubbles - earlier cars are starting to rust now! if theres any coming through, that'll be around £200 a panel to rectify. - check what tyres are on it! you're looking for brands you've heard of before - if the previous owner has skimped on some Chinese ditchfinder tyres then i'd be worried where else they'd skimped. - check the oil level - easiest to do when cold, the previous owner should know how to do it! that's my advice!
