  1. oh yeah lets not forget a fairly important one... BOOOOOOST!
  2. pssh we did snetterton as it was snowing... they just said 'we have the track, and these are the driving conditions - if you're happy driving in them then have at it!' only time I've had a trackday cancelled was because of thick fog that had refused to budge by midday.
  3. some I agree with, some I don't... reasons I love cars (in no particular order) 1. national speed limit signs - or 'fun starts here' signs. normally accompanied by dropping a few cogs and flooring it. 2. overtaking. not the boring kind on the motorway, but when you come across an old biddy doing 40mph on a NSL road, and the sheer joy and anticipation that comes from the road opening up into a straight, dropping a few cogs and flooring it. 3. traction. or lack thereof. trying to pull out of a t junction quickly in cold conditions, and the TCS kicking in cos you've got just too much power to be contained by your 265 section rear tyres. 4. slow reveal cupholders. the type you push in, then they slowly unfold. man was I pi**ed when my mate broke one of mine. 5. cylinders arranged in multiples of 5 or 6. just sound better than a multiple of 4. oh and a decent exhaust to fully appreciate it.
  4. I've seen worse, and wheels are easily swapped. whats up with the exhaust tips though?
  5. clearing the brembos is all down to the spoke design - some wheels will have high offsets and still clear the brembos with no spacers (ie OEM wheels) wheras other low offset wheels still wont fit even with hefty spacers. All down to wheel design. what wheels exactly do you have your eye on? as you wont get much dish on 8.5"/9.5" wheels with 35mm offsets - the standard rear wheel is 8.5" with a 33mm offset, and that's not exactly dishy!
  6. the thread on pistonheads is running to 29 pages now... read that first. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1569032 personally, its a no from me. who exactly is giving these good reviews?!?
  7. when i had a zed i ran hankook ventus v12s up front, and hankook S1 evo2s on the rear. fronts were about £80, rears were £105 i think. On the beemer its GY eagle f1s all round.
  8. oh that's why I like to make fairly sure they'll be staying in the middle lane. but I find it gets a lot less aggravation than coming up behind someone and giving them a little flash to request they move over. If i'm in lane 1 and its clear, i'll stay in lane 1 until its not. regardless of whats going on in the other two lanes. I also don't dilly dally about when it comes to changing lanes - spot a gap, indicate and pull into gap. normally with a quick squirt of throttle so i'm now matching the speed of the lane I've moved into. or even spot a potential gap, start indicating, then when gap arrives pull into it, no fuss.
  9. I suspect decats are gonna drone a lot at motorway speeds, so yes, I suspect it will be too loud.
  10. if I'm in lane 1 and approaching someone in lane 2 going slower than me, if theres plenty of space in lane 1, i'll just stay there and pass on the left. but I do make sure that they look pretty happy in the middle lane before passing. I don't do it in an aggressive fashion, just keep a constant speed. as a result of this i'd say 50% of people carry on as they were in the middle lane regardless, 45% of people realise that they should move over and do so, and 5% speed up as I pass them on the left. rarely gets any flashes or anything, I think people who hog the middle lane don't really care what side a car overtakes them on, as long as they can stay in the middle lane.

    MPS4 or MPSS

tyreleader is selling MPS4 in standard zed sizes for £122 front and £140 rear, which is basically the same as MPSS. but MPS4 is the newer tyre, go on, be the first. they're what i'll be trying next when I wear out my GYs.
  12. I don't know supercharged zed engines, but given how good modern oil is changing it every 3000 miles seems overkill to me!
  13. whats the point in racing at all if theres no race? in the normal qualifying format, fast cars start first, stay there, then win. middling cars start in the middle, stay there, then finish in the middle. slow cars bumble round at the back. wheres the drama? a 5 year old could look at the finishing order of the first race, and make a pretty accurate prediction of the rest of the championship. in fact, i'll do it right now - Hamilton, Rosberg, Vettel, Bottas, Raikkonen, Massa. why bother racing at all? design a car, run the simulations, award the trophy to the team that designed the fastest car. nobody even needs to leave their design office. and yeah, i cant wait for the btcc to start up again, actual racing thats exciting to watch! i'll watch F1 as well, and dream of how much better it would be with reverse grids and success ballast.
  14. well, im kind of glad that they're doing something to try and mix up the grids, even if I think its the wrong thing... in reality I don't think it will make that much difference to the grand scheme of things - there might be the odd bit of shuffling but by and large the fastest car will start at the front of the pack, which mean more often than not mean they'll drive off into the distance and not be seen again until the chequered flag, which is dull. all I really want to see is that if you're a good driver and have a fast car, then you're put in a position where you actually have to use it and do some overtaking - either start the leading cars in the championship lower down the grid so they have to do some overtaking, or let them start at the front of the grid, but slow them down so the slower cars have a better chance of catching them. the most memorable races are where a quick car for some reason starts from the back - the current qualifying system encourages boring races as the cars start the race already in their predicted finishing positions.
  15. I have the sgs low entry jack for the track car since a standard one wont fit under the sills. jacking handle is a little flimsy but 360 degree rotation is quite useful, and works well enough for our needs.
  16. oooooh do love a good car video. was recently stuck at home with flu and rewatched pretty much the entire 46 episodes of Roadkill, great viewing. that or pretty much anything by Chris Harris.
  17. the most important thing is passion... it doesn't matter if its sports, or music, or films, or cars... as long as someone is passionate about something that's the most important thing. I think a lot of people have no passion, if you asked them what they like they'd be all 'oh, I don't know really, I just sort of bumble along' which is a bit sad really...
  18. sounds like a duff bonnet sensor is the next thing to try - easy enough to disconnect it. and see if the alarm goes off.
  19. Hows about a Maserati Granturismo? or an AMV8? or my old favourite, BMW M6? you've got plenty of options at there at that price!
  20. boooo that sucks! hope you get a speedy resolution!
  21. I appreciate my mods.... theres not a day goes by when I don't enjoy extra oomph from the engine, and wish I could be bothered to wash my wheels, which always look atrocious but i'm generally happy with where my car is now - if the exhaust starts blowing i'll upgrade when I replace, but other than that i'm pretty happy! that said, i'm really looking forward to the temps going up and not needing to be quite so gentle on throttle application - been ruddy ages since I just went out for a decent drive on some nice country roads - too many slogs up and down the motorway in the dark this time of year.
  22. looks alright I guess, I mean, if you're into beemers...
  23. I thought electric cars were a lot more efficient at turning energy into forward propulsion - most ICE cars generate a lot of heat and noise.
