  1. The season has started?!? pssssh, we never stopped, we've done trackday number three already this year! wasn't a huge fan of the new blyton to be honest... too tight and twisty for a high powered car in my opinion, better suited to something like a caterham. true there is little to hit, but some of the curbs on the exit of corners are rather high for no reason I can see. would much rather donington or cadwell, more satisfying when you string a good lap together.
  2. camskill often have same fairly good prices as well.
  3. thats going to be rapido fast, if it stays together. as mentioned, i'd want a lot more info and exactly whats been done and who did it, but even then the engine bay doesnt inspire much confidence. would certainly be an entertaining drive, i imagine it would go nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, VTECTURBO, spin, tree, fireball. but fun for about 0.5 seconds
  4. if it was £10k only, with no budget for anything else, then has to be a zed. if it was £10k purchase price, plus £20k for ongoing maintenance/ major engine/chassis rebuilds, then the TVR, or the Supra. if however it was a second car, then S2000 plus change for upgrades, or an elise.
  5. Just booked the BMW onto track day number 4 of 2014 at Bedford auto drome with MSV track days. Anyone fancy coming along? Hoping for good weather!
  6. well, depends on the age of the car, and the size of the blowers.... but i cannot believe that a 2 litre turbo lump making 300plus bhp isnt horrendously laggy, or that the turbo isnt out of puff at high rpm. my old 300zx only used ickle turbos (two of 'em) to make a measly 9psi of boost, but the torque still dropped off a cliff after 5000rpm... hence why the RX7 of the same era had a sequential turbo setup. but modern stuff with variable vane geometry and so on will be a lot better, but i'd be very surprised if any turbo car makes a torque curve as flat as a zeds.
  7. nothing for the zed, but if you search for brillomaster the first two pages are a combination of my various forums over the years (pistonheads, mx5, civiclife, 300zx, 350z-uk), ebay, youtube accounts, flickr, so on and so forth. nice to know that I seem to be the only person in the world with that screenname!
  8. annoyingly if I use the advanced editing options the return key doesn't do anything, on either IE8 or firefox. have to type things in the very basic editor, and then the return key works!
  9. wait a minute, is that nipple i see? >zooms in for closer look< yep, nipple. NSFW please, sheesh, honestly, think of the children etc
  10. welcome! if you like revs and VTEC then stick with Honda, if its a big capacity torquey lump you're after go for the Nissan. but most importantly have a decent drive in both.
  11. cheers all! i fear i can no longer claim to be mid 20s, the descent to 30s has now started having a special birthday dinner this evening, courtesy of the GF
  12. 360-400 normally. it some point i want to do an economy run and see if i can stretch to about 550 miles - when cruising at 60mph i'm getting about 34mpg, so with an 80 litre tank its theoretically possible!
  13. exhaust helps a lot how does it drive with a lightened flywheel? although you might need an uprev to fully appreciate it, I normally prefer a lighter fly for the responsiveness of the engine revs rising and falling, just makes a car feel more 'zingy'
  14. think of it this way - if it weren't for all the Jukes and Cashcows and Micras that Nissan sells, there wouldn't be the funds to develop a 370z or a GTR... equally, you have to thank the buyers of small economical cars, since they'll bring the fleet CO2 emissions average down so that Nissan can continue to make gas guzzling sports cars
  15. the 14v readout just says that the alternator is charging correctly, but doesn't give an indication of the battery capacity or the draw on it. the door sounds like a function of the power, maybe the battery is getting so flat the ecu/locking system/alarm is all going to pot. if you cant get it sorted before the next time you go offshore, maybe disconnect the battery and leave the bonnet on the latch, then when you get back open the bonnet and reconnect it?
  16. if we stay on topic, I see no reason to lock this... I find the power delivery of the zed is deceptive, since its got such a flat torque curve. put your foot down in any gear and as long as you're over 2500rpm or so, it simply picks up and sets off. With minimal amount of fuss. however, where it does feel fast is if you keep your foot in, it keeps building and building and BUILDING, all the way up to the redline, by which time you're moving very quickly. while the linearity of the power delivery can be a bit unexciting for a sports car, it does make for a good GT car. On the other hand with a turbo car, you get all the whizz pop bang attitude, put your foot down and theres a pause, then a big surge of torque that pins you to the seat, then tails off to a pretty poor redline. in a turbo car its not the acceleration you feel, its the accelerating acceleration as the engine produces a sharply rising torque curve. so you get the torque earlier in the midrange, whereas a zed needs the revs to make the power.
  17. sounds to me that the camera is using battery power when it shouldn't be, even if just a trickle. A car battery shouldn't be flat in two weeks, how old is the car/battery? would be surprised if a 370z battery had gone bad already. Was the car able to sit for long periods and then start up before the camera was fitted? when electronics are concerned I don't believe in coincidences.
  18. if you do have a spare switch, i wholeheartedly recommend you wire it up to one of these: so it sounds like this:
  19. yeah thats been on ebay a couple of times i think... unfortunately its in N.Ireland, which is a little bit far for me!
  20. id be interested to know what an uprevved 370z makes! been kinda considering if/when I could upgrade to a 370z but have to drive one first to see if an extra 60hp is worth the extra outlay.
  21. what tyres are you running? asymmetrical tyres (ie ones with continuous lines of rubber round them, Michelin PS2s, Conti Sportcontacts) tend to be quieter than directional tyres (falken FK452s, Hankook Ventus V12s)
  22. 53 plate on just 56k, bought two years ago on 41k.
  23. nice one, sounds like a good day! yeah i like being on track with MX5s... they know their weaknesses and generally move over no problems. Looking forward to our day in two weekends time, hopefully the weather will stay dry! and what are you saying about BMW drivers! we're a lovely lot as for porsche owners, not so much, but thankfully there dont seem to be many of them on trackdays we go on.
  24. So how was it? pretty much the perfect weather for it , got any videos of your on track action?
  25. if its just a bit more noise you're looking for, cobra resonated will fit the job perfectly - I've recently swapped from standard to cobra resonated and it sounds just lovely, definitely a good place to start! if you do decide you need more/different noise later on down the road, you can always flog the cobra and upgrade.
