I'm a similar age to you and the 370Z is my very first car, having only got around to taking my test quite recently. I reckon if I can get along with one anyone can! I get a hell of a kick out of having a car that's relatively uncommon on the roads and turns a lot of heads. I think it gets way more attention that the usual suspects (Audi TT, Porsche Boxter etc etc) which are ten-a-penny around where I live. I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough on the technical side of things to give advice on possible issues. All I can say is that I've had no discernable problems with the car since we got it 18 months ago (with the exception of a well known boot spring problem, which was easily sorted out by our local dealer under warranty). I'd say go for it (I'd suggest looking at a White one...)

He said not UNhappy whoops Yep I love the White Z as does my better-half! I reckon I'll stay as I am for now. The Black Ed is tempting, but I guess it makes more sense to hold out until my current finance agreement comes to end in about 18 months then look at a GT Edition, otherwise I'm taking a big financial hit for little more than a different colour (Not been able to find a single picture of a GT Edition in black yet though....). Cheers for all the advice!

Thanks for the replies so far - all good points for me to think over!

Hi all, I'm seriously considering going to look at this at the weekend with a view to trading in my current Z (09 GT Ultimate - White). http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201136413743294/sort/priceasc/usedcars/model/370_z/make/nissan/page/1/quicksearch/true/postcode/tw14na/radius/20?logcode=p I not unhappy with the current car - far from it - but I've always loved the look of the Black Edition and I'm guessing it might hold it's value for longer, being limited edition. I'd be interested to know if you think it looks a decent price for the mileage etc. And can anyone explain what "Parking distance control" is? I thought it might mean parking sensors, but I can see any in the pictures. I'm a bit of a novice at car buying (only passed my test quite recently - late starter at 40!) so any tips on what to look out for would be great too) Cheers.

I agree. I wouldn't expect the measurements to be 100% accurate but the second two measurements look well off. Take it back for to the dealer to be checked out.
-
I can't decide how I feel about the stripe but it's a very handsome car! Hoping that some of these might be on the market at reasonable prices when I'm due to trade in the current Z under a preferences deal in about 18 months time.

I suspect this kind of behaviour is sometimes (not always) motivated by resentment about the fact that you have a better car.

Spiffing advice old chap! Can't see me wanting to give up the current Z early but it helps to know I've got the option (if they come up with a colour I like better than the white!)
-
I got my Z on one of these - Paid a deposit, pay monthly for a set period (three years in my case) and then decide whether to give the car back, pay the balance, or part exchange for a new one (the most likely option for me). The one thing I can't seem to find out, even from Nissan Customer Services (sigh....) is whether I am tied to the original three year period before I trade-in for a new one, or could I decide after two years to trade in and have the agreement adjusted accordingly. I'm very happy with the current car for now, but it would good to know if I have the option of an earlier trade-in if something comes up in future (by "something" it will most probably be a different 370Z!). I know a few Nissan dealers visit this site (tried mine, but not much help) so grateful if anyone knows the answer...

I'm a shorty at about 5.7 (5.8 if I'm feeling optimistic). Wasn't til I'd had the car about 2 months that I realised you could raise the driver's seat height with one of the 'dials' on the side. With that and just moving the seat forward I get along fine, as does my girlfriend, whose not much over 5ft.

Thanks. Interesting write-up on the other site! I am going to give some serious thought to getting one. Girlfiend doesn't like the idea at all and since she contributed her old car to the deposit I have to do the decent thing and listen (or at least pretend to ) ! A not-too-mental sound would help to win her over! Be great to see a vid if you can find a way of posting one (or a link) when you get time.

I'd be interested to know how much difference this makes to the sound of the car over the stock exhaust. I love my Z but would like it to have a bit more of a "growl" without sounding too mental. (I reckon I'm cautious because the only exhaust mods I see 'in the flesh' seem to be on clapped out cars driven by teenagers, which look stupid and sound truly horrible) I've seen quite a few vids on the net showing 370Zs with various different exhausts. I think the Stillen vid sounded good - more growl than the stock, but not as over the top as some. Did you have much bother finding someone to fit it?

Couple going on Ebay (trade sellers), for example: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-10-Nissan-370Z-3-7-GT-SAT-NAV-/160641437388?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2566f9cecc By way of comparison I paid just over £27K for mine a year ago with similar mileage (GT Ultimate though).

I'm guessing you mean this Colin? http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/dodo-juice/supernatural-premium-wax.aspx Looks great but eye wateringly expensive!!!!

Totally get where you're coming from, but the odd thing is since I work in an office all week I find being out in the fresh air doing the car quite theraputic! Maybe I'll get fed up with it eventually though!

Great advice / suggestions....

Thanks for the advice guys. I am fairly light-touch with it but I'll drop the frequency down to once every 6 months just to be on the safe side!

I have been using this on the Z (White) since I bought the car about a year ago. I wash the car carefully by hand every week because it lives out on the road and use the polish about every two months. http://www.autoglym.com/enGB/product-proddetail.asp?v06VQ=HD The polish really makes the car look great, but I've a recollection of reading somewhere that it's not good for the paintwork to polish a car too often. The product info claims it's ok for use on new cars, metallic finishes etc but I'd like to know what others think/do in terms of keeping their Z looking good.

Wish I'd seen this before we picked up our Z from Martins in Winchester last year. Rep told us there was plenty of petrol, but it was doing the blinky "you are about to run of petrol" thing while we were still some way from home. In future, I will haggle for petrol....

Glad you found it useful mate. I agree it's not a perfect match, but with so little info available about the right colour for the Z's Rays it's good to have something that comes quite close (to my eyes anyway)

Yes - the 500ml (the 400ml is an aerosol). Or if you want to do a whole wheel you can go for the 1lt You could probably use the aerosol if you wanted but it would require a lot of masking. I find the tin is good for very small scrapes because you can just use a small paint brush (like an artist's brush) to apply it. The paint is quite thick too, so it helps to hide any roughness (I'd recommend a very careful sanding of the damaged spot and some primer if the scrape has gone down into the metal). I did once try to self-repair quite a long scrape and wasn't happy with results so ended up getting the wheel refurbished. As a general rule I'd say if you've got a mark bigger than a few inches or which goes deeply into the metal go for a refurb. Even then, the paint is useful if you want to make it look a better while you wait for the refurb to be done. So far..... after 10k miles I have avoided kerb scrapes, but I do have a few chips from removing the wheel nuts - some my doing some by others, but also a few chips caused by stones being thrown around in the wheels (I will blame Wales for that ). So looking forward to the pot of "wheelpaints" to arrive and raiding the toothpick jar But the design of the 370 wheels are certainly more difficult than the 350 Rays to do DIY fixes for kerb scrapes. I try to avoid scrapes by parking on the driver's side (not always possible of course) and then carefully reversing towards the kerb from quite far out using the wing mirror to check my position. I'm sure the neighbours have a right laugh at me taking an age to park, but I don't care if it keeps the wheels in good nick.

Hope this might be useful to some members......... Thanks to our lack of a driveway, my duff parking (especially that!) and the fact that I hate to see the Zs alloys with "rash" I've paid out to have wheels refurbished several times. This can cost anything from £50 to £100 per time. I would never try to DIY repair a big or deep mark but it can be hard to justify the cost of a refurb for a small scrape or stone chips. I spent a long time looking for info on a colour match for the silver Rays until I got a tip from a refurbisher about VBF Silver. I've used this on a couple of small scrapes with very good results (by that I mean you have to be looking for the repair and look closely at the wheel to find it). I got mine here (as it's only for small marks, I don't use the aerosol - the 500mil tin is more than you'll ever need): http://www.wheelpaints.co.uk/product_details_177.htm.

I vote for Zs in Black and White too! Mine........
