  1. ^^ what he said, KW27 work well.
  2. Ahh, yes. My car's purchase price was £6.2k when I bought her in early 2011. I keep a complete spreadsheet record of presents, parts, services, tax, petrol etc, and total cost of ownership at last summation was ....£19.9k.... only £4.5k of that is petrol and £2k for all taxes, insurance etc. My baby, she gets a lot of presents amazing how it adds up! I also have a wish list and an alarming figure for one certain ..cough.. FI with supporting mods contemplation (should have taken the plunge and bought Octet's vortech at the time - although zeds are plenty fast enough) Totally worth it, and what else is money for?
  3. If it's any help I have 4 out of 5 steels and 1 out of 5 aluminium locking nuts (Richbrook). I inflict the same standard 108 Nm torque on all nuts, as the force holding the wheel to the hub should be the important thing (not withstanding differences in material contact friction). I figured if there was a problem with the alloy nut longevity it would show up in a safe way, with the wheel retention protected by 4/5 steel. Result is that I have never had a problem with the alloy nuts in 2 years of repeated wheels on/off for mods and winter. They do say in the alloy guidelines not to use an air wrench to put them on, ie they are easily destroyed by cross threading. So I take it from that, that they are fine until they are not fine I can't definitively reference D1 nuts as I don't own them, but I imagine they are made from the same 'aircraft grade' alloy, and as such fit for purpose. Cheap copies would likely be a completely different kettle of fish though.
  4. Yup 108 Nm it says in the user manual. 80 ft lb in old money.
  5. Between the antenna and the receiver, there is an RF amplifier (mounted behind trim in the boot) and a coaxial transmission line. You've probably got a loose connection somewhere. Strip down, wiggle (or in an extreme case replace the coax line or resolder any related connections) ..or don't worry It could be RFI from something arcing - there is a headlight pitch sender connected to the ARB, amongst other wiring in the boot vicinity - which, if faulty, would be picked up with AM. If there is no interference on FM then suspect these external sources whereas if there is interruption with all modulation types, suspect the RF circuit as above.
  6. Finally cracked. This and the other thread on Coil overs has made me capitulate. Zeta S and extension cables have been ordered! TBH with the stock JDM damping, bashing along on Bucks roads was getting a bit tiresome - I used to think "its not my car, it's the damn Bucks roads", but I was just being tight. £73.40 discount is a nice bonus.
  7. I agree with this. I was recently convinced I had somewhere along the line knocked tracking out as the car was fidgity and drifting left - until I checked pressures and found one rear tyre (a Michelin MPS2) 7psi softer than the other 3. Pumped all tyres back up to 35psi and everything was fine again. Of course the MPS2 was a recently new tyre, so it remains to be seen if I have a slow puncture
  8. ^^ what he said. The Obdmate OM500 model works fine with JOBD cars Connected and igniton on, select make etc and it downloads stored codes from ECU memory (if any).
  9. I used to have a Legacy twin turbo. Easily as fast as the zed in a straight line - when the big turbo spooled up the blood drained out of my feet... however, it was an auto and that bit went wrong - lower gears crunched and a shaft must have come loose - many expensive noises. Eventually the lockup clutch stopped working too. Others in the Legacy club used to have problems with the transfer box causing hoppity skip in reverse. Apart from weak transmission, the Akebono brakes were absolute rubbish where the calipers were forever seizing up. And the cam covers on flat fours tend to leak - unfortunately the exhaust goes underneath them so you get a well known 'Leggy smell' of burnt oil through the air vents. Great cars - they were known as the Subaru lunacy when they came out, great spec etc, but old now and don't age well.
  10. After many years of paying around the £250 mark via various companies by shopping around online, with my Subaru (twin turbo), a couple of years ago I paid £665 to Swinton as I still had the Subaru as well as the Zed. Then last year when down to only the Zed, I paid Admiral £279 which seemed good at the time. Admiral wanted a similar (£50 cheaper IIRC) for auto renewal back in May, but I then used the Money Supermarket app on the iPad and this year's insurance came in at £162.86 with the AA including free AA breakdown. Fully comp too. The crack down on the crazy insurance/legal/repair cartel is one of the best 'real difference' things thats happened in years
  11. Quite a rare sight, but it always amuses me when you notice a convoy of vehicles behind a single police car on the motorway, all plucking up the courage to overtake. Not quite a Bristol story but I passed a police car on the M25 the other day by doing 75. I thought it was plain silly the swathe of middle lane traffic behind him at 69mph (Sat Nav GPS speed). At the same time there had been an accident causing a car inversion on the opposite carriage way which was seemingly missed by said police car, as he did nothing to assist - eg exit at next junction. Accident had just happened, and the queue had just started - so he must have had blinkers on or distracted in conversation! Then when it came to the roadworks section (50MPH average) I was driving in the inner lane for the A1 doing exactly 50MPH by GPS, to see the police car carry on cruising passed at what looked like 60. Almost wondered if the police car was a fake in its occupants' disregard for their surroundings!
  12. I've always thought that if you like it and it's sound, you buy it - and never buy too cheap. Actual purchase price is often the last in consideration within limits. Think how much extra we end up lavishing on our toys after a few years of ownership - a few extra quid at the start is only a small increment. I actually think Greg is doing us all a favour in keeping his prices relatively strong. As a zed owner I would say they are generally undervalued as cars at their actual market rates.
  13. Not Cambridge, but RT Performance did a fine job via their paint matching partners (who used a digital scanner) when spraying my KY0 wing 18 months ago. The digital process tests and mixes to within 3% and works well on blade silver. Allied with a good spray technician and the results were spot on.
  14. Surely this one is a either for a reclaim box or advice?
  15. Use Fuchs Titan Pro S 5w30 in your engine, Motul 600/660 in your brakes, Genuine nissan diff and gearbox oils, genuine coolant premix and use the traders on here.
  16. I must say that I've been enjoying these lizard threads. And I love the look of your black zed (that coming from a silver lover). Your car sounds great too in the video - waayyy better than the 4 pot fart boxes on track !! Keep up the good work
  17. I must say.. the new Mac Pro looks ..phwoar!! http://www.apple.com/mac-pro/index2.html Just need to persuede our head of laboratory (Prof) with the money to buy one for our research project
  18. Good definitive answer Cheers Alex. Bugs me how eBay can be off trading standards limits!
  19. I saw these too. He appears to sell them as a pair or singles and promises that they are "not cheap chinese copies or remanufactured". I was slightly tempted but was put off by the lack of original markings you get as part of the casting on originals (or at least they are not visible in the pictures). Might be real - might not be - surely trading standards applies? Certainly a lot cheaper than normal, so ripe for poly bush replacement if they are good.
  20. Spotted or Flyered! A1/M25 junction (roundabout) at about 9.30am. I was sat at the lights (you might not have seen me due to the angle) ...saw a black zed go past across the junction, noticed gold wheels, ...noticed stickers - thought hold on a minute... It was like seeing someone from the telly
  21. Awesome job! ..although the car appears to have sneakily unwrapped a part of itself in the last photo
  22. Dog soldiers is good for a laugh.. me guts are out
  23. Mine was the Blade JDM in front in our 2 Zed convoy
  24. This lot comes off with HEL... Is it now thought that its better to have a solution that retains some of it? Goodridge are the best of course, although HEL seemed to be in fashion when I bought mine. We do also have the 1 (or 2) P clip requirement with HEL - to cut down or eliminate line wobble/scuffing - which has worked for me. Hmm...
