  1. Well I hope it was at least £2k off the market price, because having just had a complete gearbox and clutch replacement, I can tell you that £2k is about how much it'll cost you if it's all fooked, lol. DB
  2. Welcome to the Internet. At the end of the day, all he had to say to answer the original question was 'I've done 165mph in my modified import 350z'. But as he chose to add that he did this on a public road through a village, without adding the (highly questionable) information that the road was closed at the time, I think the torrent of 'it's not big and it's not clever' responses were well deserved. DB
  3. My £2k estimate was based on something top draw like Crawford headers which would give you the best possible gains and would work all the way through to a balls-out N/A build. adamphillie; apologies for the slightly arsey reply, lol, the fact that you've got a stage 3 stillen does change things a bit. The important thing to get right is the match-up between your headers and cams. Just looking at the lift and duration of cams doesn't tell the whole story, so do a bit of research of people with similar set-ups and look at what works and what doesn't. For example the Crawford headers with a Tomei cam grind seems to be one of the best (and most expensive) options for letting the engine rev, but with the stillen I'm guessing a higher rev limit isn't really what you're after so have a look at pairings that improve the midrange instead. The information is out there DB
  4. Headers aren't value for performance. They just aren't. They're a total PITA to fit with the engine still in, it's possible but expensive. Headers are something you should consider alongside cams as part of a proper N/A build, they're unlikely to give you more than 10bhp for your £2k otherwise. The fact that you've asked this question suggests that you shouldn't consider such a build until you do a LOT more research. DB
  5. A public road is never a controlled environment mate. Unless of course you're suggesting that the 2 mile road through your small village was closed for the day so that you could do a Vmax run? DB
  6. That metal bracket/box in the boot is the amp for the Bose sound system DB
  7. I believe these guys are talking in WHP, not BHP. WHP doesn't try to dial out transmission losses by guesswork and just gives you the hp measured at the wheel and is always lower for that reason. what you really want to look at are the gains rather than the final number, as all dynos read differently anyway. Also, RE; factory power figures, the only cars i've ever heard of consistently meeting or exceeding their stock figures when dyno'd as stock are beemers, evertyhing else is wishful thinking. DB

    The Start

Have to say, the quality of those pieces looks terrible. some of them are very obviously not the right shape, and being wet layup construction (which you can tell they are) they're going to be THICK (i.e. they'll look like stick on covers when fitted) Go the Coldel route and black vinyl wrap it, best update I've seen yet and it won't cost you £400 DB
  9. GTM will ship to the UK and they will make a RHD kit as well. By reputation their kit is one of the best you can get. Really aint cheap though and you'll need to order it about 18 months before you actually need it, lol DB
  10. You may want to do a bit of reasearch on 'unleashing the beast' of the Zed before you make any big plans, as gaining anything more than 30bhp involves seriously 'unleashing' your wallet. This aint a Honda. To answer your question, you want to be talking to Horsham Developments or Abbey Motorsport if you're down south DB
  11. Dunno, I think the door's slightly open personally, I can see mine on the drive from here and the top of the door sits more flush than in that picture. Not sure why they'd take a pic with the door cracked open but hey ho. DB
  12. Even early auto Zeds had the little sub-gate on the shifter with + - on it to shift. Also fairly sure no 350z ever came with paddle shifters from the factory DB
  13. Don't take it personally, it doesn't matter weather you spelt it right, we all knew what you meant Yeah had half the Shara desert rain on my parade, was spankingly clean before this happened. The pictures dont do it justice either Mine is in exactly the same state, and I'm in the only part of the country still under an effing hosepipe ban and there's no way i'm using waterless cleaner on sand, so I guess it's staying there for a while DB
  14. Why were you amazed? Am I missing somethign huge or aren't all auto Zeds tiptronic? DB
  15. Not sure where you got the idea that one GTM kit fits Both the HR and VHR engine. They do seperate kits that both use the Rotrex C38 blower, but a lot of the other stuff will be different. As far as the Stillen kit goes, trying to convert something designed for one car to fit another car will probably cost more than the diference between the Stillen and the GTM kits as it would probably involve fabrication. Generally the HR engine is considered to be the better suited to twin turbos than superchargers, which I guess is why there is only one (AFAIK) S/C kit available for them. DB
  16. Erm, except it's 2008 and therefore not a GT4 Good price for a 2008 though if it's a straight car. DB [mod edit: attempts at sale removed, and this post edited so that it isn' out of place. Lexx]
  17. Some import cars came with flappy paddle gearboxes Really? by no means saying you're wrong but I've NEVER seen one with OEM paddle shifters. Also if you look at the photos of the car in question it doesn't have paddles, so the guy's just being a douche and trying to jazz up the fact that it's an auto DB
  18. That could be pretty good, Square Enix know how to do an open-world RPG. Deus Ex: Human Revolution was one of the best games I've ever played. I'll look forward to this one DB
  19. Im sure i could have knocked a few hundred off the dealers advertised price. and viks is a grand over book price. Dont get me wrong the car looks immaculate and i dont doubt its a superb example. But its a lot of money for a 54 plate 350. Because book prices on these cars are a joke at the moment. I can understand your reluctance to spend more than you think you have to, but what you're effectively saying is this: 'I'd rather buy a car with a lit-up dash and severe misfire from a dealer who seems not to really care about either, or i can buy a car with an unbeatably documented immaculate history that has been loved and cherished by it's reluctant seller.' Seems a no-brainer to me. But then i fell foul of the same thing when i bought mine; I let the fact that it was blue and cheap rule my head and have since had to replace: the exhaust, the clutch, the flywheel, the gearbox, all 4 corners discs and pads (horribly warped) one window motor, driver's side door hinges, faulty Bose unit. I'll let you have a think about how much that all cost because i can't bear to write it down. Don't do it. DB
  20. viewtopic.php?f=35&t=55272&hilit=pedal+dance That thread details the ECU resetting procedure, which also shows you the code by blinking at you. Basically once you've got the light to blink, count the blinks and look up the code. Worth finding out what's actually wrong before paying someone. DB
  21. Have you got an aftermarket head unit yet? I had a big ol' audio install planned but stopped once I replaced the HU because it made way more difference on its than I ever thought it would. pretty much zero addad weight DB
  22. And I thought I was the only one! Been massively unimpressed with my Desire; I've had it for almost 2 years (so nearly rid of it) and it has worked properly for maybe half that. I think it overheats, because if I use it for extended periods of time (>5mins) I can feel the back get hot and then it just goes into a rebooting loop until I take the battery out. It also overheats if I keep it in my pocket I've been looking at the S3 as a replacement when my contract is up, but am leaning towards some sort of Blackberry at the moment as my dad has abused his for 3 years and it still works fine. DB
  23. Are you sure it's coming from the engine and not the gearbox/clutch area? If it was coming from the transmission i'd probably ignore it unless it has suddenly developed or the car doesn't feel right. The 350z has very noisy transmission so could well be perfectly normal. DB
  24. Thanks Kyle - That's some great info right there. Looks like I'll up the budget a little bit and aim for the 2006 onwards. There isn't a huge jump in power with the revup but the biggest bonus is the bulge bonnet (more aggressive) dual intakes (more noise) and better interior quality, other than that not a lot of difference really.... tax is almost double though You mean the HR rather than the Rev-up right? Pretty sure the Rev-up still only has one intake and the regular bonnet DB
