  1. Wave any way you want most people I wave do dont wave back obviously not forum members as they look at me like I've just slapped them. So true I either get blank/confused looks or the look of someone pretending they haven't noticed the lunatic in the other lane waving at them for no reason because they're too cool. DB
  2. Very good point about the Z4, I hadn't even thought of that and you'd still have warranty left over with a beemer that new. Couldn't agree more about the price too; not only can you get something considerably better for the same money (new 370z, used cayman, barely used Z4) you can get a conceptually similar 'no frills good fun' car (MX-5) for a shocking amount less. I kinda want the GT86/BRZ to fail so that I can maintain some sort of faith in people's ability to spot a ****-take when they see one. Unfortunately I have a feeling that people are going to assume that the GT86/BRZ must be worth £28k because that's what it costs. DB
  3. Im made of much thicker stuff than that Is there a description for somebody who has two white 4wd vehicles? Surely that makes you double cream? DB
  4. As far as I know, you can't really adjust the biting point on the 350z. I think you can move the pedal position slightly but that's it. If you're having real trouble you could try this kit: http://www.rjmperformance.com/350z--g35-kits.html It has rave reviews in the US and allows you to adjust everything about the clutch engagement. I know it says LHD only but apparently they do make RHD on request. DB
  5. I think Ekona is your man for this comparison, but I have to add my protest to to the 'uncharacterful engine' comment. I'm sure it won't feel as refined as the Porsche motor, but once you slap a decent exhaust on and maybe a few choice bolt-on mods it really comes to life and is a highlight of the car IMO. Ride comfort and seating position are personal things, but I have to agree with Wasso in that I've taken many long (whole day) trips in the Zed and always been comfortable. You'll definitely notice the Japanese interior quality, while I don't like Porsche interiors (a bit bland/unimaginative) there's no doubt they put Nissan to shame on quality of materials and lack of creaks and squeaks. Another thing I suspect you'd notice is the transmission. I've never driven a 911 but I have driven several Boxsters and I recall the transmission being quite light and precise. The transmission in the Zed (particularly pre '06) could charitably be called agricultural. The Zed is a great car, and one I see myself keeping until it dies, but comparing it to a car that was in a totally different league when new is always going to show up some weak points. DB
  6. The 986 Boxster really didn't do it for me when I was on the hunt for what ended up being the zed. To me, it looks like it's on stilts, and the interior is well made but boring. The engine wasn't anything to write home about either, it felt like all the power was up next to the rev-limiter. I also drove a 987 S and it was much much better. Looks better, goes better and actually felt like what I'd imagined a Porsche to feel like. The only reason I didn't get one was because I didn't fancy finance when I could buy the Zed outright. I don't think I could ever own a 986 because I know the 987 is so much better, and they've gone and ruined the 987 for me as well by bringing out the 981, which I have decided I must own one day. That's just me though, your results may differ DB
  7. Aerosync are Nismo V1 copies, but good quality ones made of plastic not fibreglass so they'll bend rather than cracking if you nudge a kerb. AFAIK both Nismo bumpers are around stock height, but genuine ones (if you can find them) are fibreglass, so a bit fragile. DB
  8. Sorry mate, but eating an hour before the gym will do nothing but make you feel sick. Anything other than simple carbs (sugar) won't even have been digested by then so you won't be burning any of it. If you eat after the gym then your body will be trying to recover and will actually use what you're eating, which is the key. Another thing to bear in mind with weight loss is that while calorie deficit is important, it shoudn't compromise your metabolism. If you starve yourself then your metabolism hits rock botttom and your body will be stashing anything it can get, whereas if you keep your metabolism high and eat sensible food little and often your body will use what you put in and you'll feel a lot better. DB
  9. Maybe he means a manual, because you need two hands to drive it? PS. Blatant spammer DB
  10. Mine goes off whevever it hails, trucks driving past a little too close has set it off as well. Give it a kick and see what happens DB
  11. I don't want to start 'diet wars' here or anything, but I wouldn't say 1200 calories with almost no carbs combined with a substantial exercise regime is healthy. Unless you're actively trying to lose weight, in which case i'll mind my own business. It's also probably the reason you'll be feeling hungry before the gym. DB
  12. Personally I'd try to eat a substantial lunch and then go straight to the gym from work. Two reasons for this: first I HATE doing exercise on a full stomach, and second because if you go home first you might realise how comfortable and warm the sofa is compared to the gym. DB
  13. Exactly what I was thinking, sat nav was optional so surely this just has no sat nav. It may be a stolen write-off, but I think it is at least a genuine HR stolen write-off. DB
  14. Ahhhh, mystery solved. Still, 8k for an HR roadster is a good price even for a Cat D. I hope someone rescues it and get rid of that spoiler and those god-awful mirrors, HR roadsters are like rocking horse poo so its a shame to see one languishing like that, lol DB
  15. Sounds silly, but how many speed bumps are there in your area? I live in a part of Surrey where the borough council are clearly in favour of rendering the roads unusable to anyone not in a large gas-guzzling chelsea tractor. As a result my suspension needs re-aligning every week or so (mild exeggeration). It's those ones that you're supposed to go one wheel either side of that do it i'm sure. DB
  16. How can I never have seen that before! Genius. DB
  17. The easiest way to tell if you have a genuine facelift is the interior, as it's a B*stard to swap out so no one does it. You should have a large silver gear surround on the facelift compared to the small silver ring surrounded by plastic in the pre-facelift. Also if you can turn on the heated seats accidentally with your left elbow then you have a pre-facelift. It's not unheard of for a non-facelift to be on an early '06 plate so if this is the case with yours, It's nothing to worry about, all still legit. DB
  18. eh? looks pretty darn like the facelift interior to me. It also has the correct facelift front bumper. DB
  19. The twickenham one i'll go ahead and say I can do as that's pretty close to me. I'll wait and see if anyone else volunteers for the northwood one but I could probably get to that one as well if need be. DB
  20. Depends where in London they are, but if it's west then I expect I can help you out DB
  21. Rip them off and learn to park? But seriously, the same thing happened to my dad's OEM parking sensors and it was diagnosed as a fault with the computer rather than the sensors themselves, whole new kit was the easiest way to fix it. DB
  22. From 02 to 05 the cars had the VQ35DE engine (276bhp) From 06 to the end of 06 the cars had the VQ35DE rev-up which had revised variable valve timing and cams giving a higher rev limit and slightly more power (296bhp but apparently less torque through the range) From 07 onwards the cars had the VQ35HR engine which according to Nissan is 80% different. It has twin intakes and an even higher rev limit and is significantly more powerful. (309bhp and more torque) DB On the dyno the revup has more torque with a little work. Ive yet to see a non revup engine make anywhere near the figures achieved on the revup cars. Except jez's at horsham which is a freak car. There was alot more changes to the revup engine but not as much as the HR which is basically a full new engine. Yep, never driven a rev-up so can only go on the general concensus. I can easily believe that the rev-up responds better to tuning than the boggo DE because of the valve timing and cam tweaks. DB
  23. The beauty of vinyl on a relatively small and simple part like the door sill is that you can just rip it off and re-do it if you really scuff it up, unlike real carbon which will scuff permanently. The jury is sort of out on the laquering thing, apparently some people have done it with no problems but all attempts I've seen have been disasterous. DB
