Another vote for battery; my zed acted completely mental when the battery died, such that I actually thought there was something really wrong with it. They do have a bit of a reputation for confusing and sudden battery death. DB

When any self respecting hot hatch these days is well north of 200bhp, it is hard to see the case for an expensive to buy, ugly, expensive to run AWD car with a chavvy image and a pretty basic interior. Don't forget also that they used to sell a lot of these off the back of WRC success, which they no longer can. I just don't think they're competitive enough on paper (I'm aware that on the road this may be different) to fight off the legions of 200+bhp VAG-mobiles and Renaults. Which is sad because they're probably better cars than most of them. DB

It's both really, the synchros on early gearboxes simply aren't up to the task and can cause crunches, particularly in 2nd 3rd and 5th. The cold tends to highlight the problem because nothing works as well with cold fluid. DB

Good point on the cabling rabbitstew. The great thing about digital versus analogue is that with digital if (within reason) the signal gets there at all it gets there with full effect. There really is no need to spend millions on gold plated nuclear-submarine-grade cables anymore. Richer Sounds are very good at having realistic setups on display, that's where I've bought my last two TVs and I've seen exactly what I was expecting when I set them up at home. Also the staff are a lot more knowledgable than your average Currys employee. DB

I have the Milltek and Berks combo, and it can be pretty boomy below about 2k rpm if you put your foot in it. Just seems to be a small band of resonance, because at 2.5k rpm for motorway cruising you wouldn't even know you had an aftermarket system, and why would you put your foot in it at 2k rpm anyway? You're right about needing to listen to one as well. YouTube clips never really sound anything like the real thing IMO , but if you let us know where abouts you are someone may be willing to give you a ride so you can listen for yourself. DB

I'm sure in 3d everything is half the resolution e.g. 1080p is halved because there is 2 pictures? I could be wrong though. I think if its passive 3D the resolution id halved but active 3D its still full 1080p as the glasses flicker open and closed, therefore each eye see's a different image. I might be wrong. I think you're right but for some reason active 3D still looks crap compared to normal 1080p. Probably because the frame rate is so abysmal. I think most of us knew stereoscopic probably wasn't really the next big step, but that BBC article gives us an idea of what actually might be. DB

Seems an obvious point, but have you actually had a proper look at the picture quality of all three of your options? When I was looking for my current TV I was amazed at how totally different the picture quality could be on two TVs with identical spec sheets, and how some TVs seem to be better at displaying certain source material than others. At the end of the day the primary purpose of your TV is to make pretty moving pictures, not network with your house, so make sure you've had a proper look at the picture quality from the sources you use the most before taking the plunge. Surely this stuff has existed for eons in the form of detailing spray? This then begs the question as to why no one has used it for cleaning proper dirt before now... If you have to use snow-foam and then umpteen million microfibres to (probably still unsuccessfully IMO) prevent it from murdering your paint, then surely the whole thing becomes more faff than just washing it normally? The only good reason I can think of for using this is if there's a hosepipe ban, but then you'd have no snow foam to prevent it destroying your paint so it's still pointless. Really stuggling to see why you'd use this, and I don't seem to be the only one. DB

You're right though Dave 172, that really doesn't make sense. A good DE 1/4 mile is usually at or just under 14s at just over 100mph, so for either version of 350z the 1/4 mile and the 0-100mph are almost the same thing, as is supported by the figures for the DE. Therefore not sure how there can be such a massive difference between the two results for the HR when again they should have been amost identical. As biscuit says though, 1/4 mile times aside not many people will argue against the 313 being the better car. DB

I suppose it centres around the definiton of resonable measures. Personally I would count allowing the garage that botched the original job without really acknowledging their work as sub-standard to have another crack at it an unreasonable measure. However I accept your point that whoever is hearing the SCC that day may be of a different opinion. I guess it's a balance between leaving yourself watertight if it goes to court and how much you're prepared to risk further bork caused by the original garage. As this is cosmetic rather than mechanical then I'll concede that perhaps giving them the chance to do it properly might be the way to go. DB

You still need to give them a chance to make good. If you don't, then any claim in the SCC under the SOGA will fail. I know exactly what you mean about not trusting them, but sadly you have little choice. Special delivery will be fine, or even hand deliver it and get them to sign a bit of paper saying they've received it. Anything that gives you proof, basically. That's a bit of a simplification. The OP needs to have exhausted all reasonable measures before taking it to SCC, but he does not have to give them the chance to re-do the work themselves. Just taking back your car and then summonsing them is unlikely to go well for you, but you don't have to give them a chance to re-do it themselves if you have good reason not to, which I think you do in this case. What you would still have to do is ask them to cover the cost of someone else rectifying their shoddy work, and if they say no, then you can issue a last letter before action, and then go to SCC if you feel the need.
