Yeah, but todays pensioners paid for there pension in advance. Its not their fault the bankers fecked their investment up. Also the government don't take into account "top up benefits" like tax credits. Some folk get more top up benefits than someone who doesn't work. The number unemployed and receiving benefits is misleading to say the least. The government would rather you worked a few hour a day and get top up benefits instead of being unemployed because the numbers look better at election time!

I whole heartily agree, mobility is paramount to lead a meaningful life. But there's mobility and theres mobility!

Are you not reading what ive wrote? Mobility cars should be means tested. If you can afford the extra £300 to fund a better car, then you shouldn't get the initial £200 in the first place. Just buy a car with you £300. So if i were entitled to £500 per month housing benefit and i can afford to put another £500 to it, should i be able to do this and buy a bigger better house? No! Yes but if every disabled person get 1k a month. If u get a car they give u 200 for a car and 800 pay. If a car is ur hobbie, then yes u can add 300 of ur 800 to the car and have 500 for the rest u need. Fact is its a benefit mate! It shouldn't be used to fund hobbies. I really don't think your grasping the seriousness of the dire state the health service is in! Think about what this "hobby money" could be used for!

Ok, i really recent this comment! I'm simple talking about mobility cars this is at another level! No offense intended Stuarty, I just thought "should also be wrapped with a big disabled logo on the side." .was perhaps a little extreme, Yeah maybe i was a bit harsh with that comment, but I've had a rough day watching people being discriminated to fund other people luxury's!!!

I agree mostly with this comment. But as i work in a health care environment i see people in need being turned away on a regular bases. So excuse me for being a little hacked off when i see someone driving an M3 and someone being turned down fir an appliance for there kid who suffers from cystic fibrosis in the same day!
-
Which is ironic, coming from someone who works for the NHS for two days a week, who must see the benefit to the disabled these things bring. Yeah, your spot on. I see people in need every day!! I also see people who really need things and simply cant get them. So you'll excuse me if i get hacked off by folk being able to use such benefits to fund luxury items. Also please don't start taking this thread to the next level, its simply about mobility cars. No one can compare a luxury item such as a sports car too medicine for a Cancer patient or an appliance for a war veteran or a disabled child. Fact is its only a car to get the the people in need from a to b and not a life saving item!

Mobility cars are not just for the unable bodies. My mate has terminal cancer and simply cant work anymore. He gets a allowance for a car, maybe the "Tosser" you mentioned might be in the same boat. Sorry about you friend! No this guy is a tosser known him for over 30 years. He's been on benefits till his kids grew up and left home and went straight from that to DSA, he's proud to point this fact out by continually pointing out that only in this country can he live in a 4 bedroom house, get a benefits including a car and all he has to do in return s attend a medical and pish the chair he sits in and bingo its all good for a while longer!
-
The fact is, i've never said in this thread that any Disabled person should not have access to a car. All ive said is tat the choice of car should be very limited. If you want a sports car, great, simply buy it yourself! I look at mobility cars the same way i look at wheelchairs, zimmer frames, walking sticks, artificial legs, glass eyes and any other medical appliance or prosthetic item.

Other than select few born with the silver spoon in mouth, We were all born with the same chances in this country with education paid for by the goverment, If these people didnt do well in school or try hard to get in a good job thats there desicion not like someone who is hit by a bus and is now disabled. So yes someone who has become disabled deserves a car. Most of the people i am referring too are educated but simple cant get a job that they have trained for and rather than sitting on there A hole, they take what job they can and work hard at it. Furthermore at no point did i say a disabled person should not get a free car, i'm simply saying there choice should be restricted to certain more suitable cars. That way they could be recycled and used by someone else with a similar disability.
-
Your missing the point! At no point have i suggested that disabled folk should suffer. Do you really think that being given a simple car, fit for purpose is "tough luck"? It should be take it and use it or leave it and buy what you can afford!
-
Explain to me why i know lots of folk, who simply cant afford any car and who have to rely on public transport or jock's pony to get from A to B? A car is not an essential item. Its a luxury. Also the St Andrew's ambulance service has a perfectly good PTS service for folk like your friend and its free at point of use. What more ould you ask for?
-
Sounds fair to me! If i were in an accident and could no longer work and i had to go to regular medical appointments and the only 2 options were get the bus or drive a disability car like the old robin reliant used to be i'd gratefully take the car. BTW, when did it become everyone's god given right to own a car. Remember its a luxury item!!!!!!

Trust me he has an M3!

My father in law had his leg amputated when he was 18 as a result of a work related injury. He died a few years ago aged 65. All his days he received his disability allowances. He choose not to take the car and instead used the money for whatever else. Moral of this story is, if he could get about using public transport, 75% of others in the same position can. So tell me again why they need a free car? Or help towards whatever car they want?
-
Disagree, if they can get in and out a sports car, give them a bus pass instead and let them buy whatever car they want. Also disability allowance for a car should be means tested. Why should someone who has plenty cash, be given a brand new car? They need to scrap all these benefits, give only to the most in need and increase whatever they give pensioners who PAID into the system more and all the pensioners who didn't food vouchers! So ur saying to the millionaires who spent 40% of their cash on tax to go buy their own car even thiugh they pay into the system more than us? And focus on the dole punters who wont work in mcdonalds rather than disabled people. If they have a car its not cus they went "sore baxk gimme a car", its because a doctor has decided it. And what if they get sore back but love sporrs cars? And can handle a nice 30minute drive to be a normal life, then sit back in their chair for the other 23 hr 30? If they can drive a nice sports car, great. Let them buy themselves 2! But if they want a practical car that is ESSENTIAL for them to attend hospital appointments or doctors appointments then give them a yellow fiat panda with a disabled sign. That way we can all politely help them go about there business and give them priority. C'mom mate, you must be pi**ed when you see folk drive up in there E class or M class slap the disabled badge on the window WHEN it suits them.
-
I couldn't disagree more! Every mobility car should be a practical car tat suits everyone. All the same colour and defo ave a big sign on it. Far too many folk ripping the **** out of it! There's an elderly lady in my street who is 87 years old with 2 walking sticks. Takes her 20 minutes to walk less tan 200m to catch the bus at the end of the road every morning. Then i see a tosser driving his mobility car to the nature reserve along the road, jump out and walk his dog a few moles everyday! If you are desperate enough, you should be grateful for any car you get otherwise our not needing it enough! Okay so my mate that served his country and in process messed his ankle up isnt allowed a nice car because hes disabled??? Yes its paid for, but so are all ur medication and police force. And disabled sign can screw right off. Id hate it someone saying that. The government help disabled people out because thats nhs cover we all pay into U can see a person walking fine but u have no idea their situation. My mum has disabled badge (not a car though atm), she can walk fine, but she cant walk for long periods or sit for long periods. So u will see her park in disabled and walk out fine, 30minutes into shopping her legs can give way and she will struggle to walk... so thats why shes in disabled parking. Dont judge someone because they may walk fine. On the car note. U say give them a basic car. Say that costs 200quid a month and nhs covers rhat.. whats ur issue with them paying a bit extra for a nice car? Its @*!# enough for then struggling and being judged for being disabled as it is. My mate is so limited to jobs, so yeh limit him to a @*!# car too why not I hold all our Military in high esteem, but they do get paid, they do get a pension, they know that there's a risk that they will go to war and get injured. They all know this when they sign up. A disabled badge is one thing a brand new car every 2 years at the expense of the tax ayer is another! Dont shoot me, the statistics are there to be read. This country cant afford to keep this up!!
-
No thats exactly how i meant it! If you are so in need that you require a mobility car then everyone who pays tax should know it! Fact is most benefits are essential but mobility cars are a luxury this country cant afford. A bus pass would get them where ever they need to go just the same!
-

My cars reg and the wife's reg plates are nearly identical except her's starts with a P and mine an S! -
Pisses me off that folk can get any car they want with their mobility benefits. I know someone who uses his mobility to pay towards the cost of a new M3. Also, his full road tax gets covered. Fact is, all mobility cars should be the same make and model, same colour and should also be wrapped with a big disabled logo on the side. That way they wouldn't need a daft wee badge. If you don't take the car offered, tough, get the bus! Also 2 cars should be available one for folk who don't need a wheel chair and a slightly larger car for folk who have disabled appliances!

Cheers mate, ive got a few but files are to big to upload, need a photo bucket account i think!

Government must think that their God, charging a pollution charge. Not as if they spend any of the money on "cleaning the air"! Technically our pollution charge should be sent to north east Africa as its them who suffer the consequences of our CO output!
