Okay rush hour - so I'll have a coffee and write this, then I promised a certain someone I'd take them out for a spin
So our day
Wife and I set out about 10 ish in her Zed for the drive up to Silverstone I get an answerphone message just as we get onto the M40 about 20mins away from Dan - all I could make out was failed, won't drive and call me ASAP from DAN
So I call him back - He says fuel pump has failed or we have a problem with the fuel lines pressure has dropped to 20psi and the pumps making a strange noise!
My first reaction was O B********x then I said - is she not just out of fuel?
Dan says - She is showing half full - I said she is always showing half full - Dan says Bring fuel I think we just ran out
So we went and got a can of the good stuff and with that installed we headed off for a test drive to the petrol station -
So my first impression was Oppseeee I've gone too far again! (a trait of mine) With the Kaaz diff upgraded bushes, stiff suspension and Huge 888 tyres she doesn't so much corner at low speed (as in manoeuvring out of the car park) more bounce round! add to that a clutch that is more like an on off button combined with an engine that is still very, very tight I have seen learner drivers pull away more smoothly!
Then there is the noise!!!!!! My SC has never sounded sweet at tick over the best description I have heard so far is - "put 3 large shovel full's of gravel with half a bucket of sand in a washing machine and turn it on - That's the noise a healthy Vortech makes at tick over" - of course this pales into insignificance when you hear the twin plate clutch and single mass flywheel rattling like they want out of the gear box now!
She also dies to almost 0rpm then hunts back and forwards then settles when you come off the throttle due to the combination of SC drag, lumpy cams and the lightweight flywheel. So as I say my first impression was this hasn't worked has it!
Any way back to the test drive - after lurching out of the car park and getting out of the country lane that Dan's garage is on we got onto the open road - Dan turns on his laptop and says "Give her some beans then"
OMFG all the lumpy bumpy bouncy noisy lurching stops the rev counter hits 3,000rpm the engine note drops as she comes on cam a small chirp of complaint from the 275 Toyo 888 rear tyres as a bucket load of torque is unleashed into them, the rev counter makes a dash for the 6.500rpm redline and I grab another gear the clutch is perfect for fast changes a hiss from the bypass valve and again the rev counter is on a determined climb for the redline another gear gone at this point I had to slow down - I need a race track!!!!!!!!!
The 106 mile drive home was a breeze she ate the miles and just purred all the way.
So in summary she is a pig at low speeds and any sort of stop start driving but on the open road and track she is a monster. I'm very happy with her so far as Dan said there has to be a trade off to get that sort of handling and performance comfort and low speed driveability have been sacrificed but I built her to be a road legal track toy and that's what she is.
400WHP to play with until the end of summer then we will fire up the NOS and maybe even add some more boost.
Anyway back out to play now
