  3. Carried on with the front suspension and subframe today Poly bushes installed at the front Sub frame in orange poly bushes at the back Poly bushes and orange bolts for the top of the towers New bearings in the upper arms Suspension arms going together Still got a lot to do wanted to get the hubs on today but going to do the new bearings and drive shafts at the same time - still hope to have her rolling by Friday night otherwise Octet and Bennet are going to be carrying the Mini out Stay tuned for the next exciting episode ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  4. At the ZedShed After posting up on the forum about a problem with a stubborn nut, http://www.350z-uk.c...renewing-belts/ I offered assistance and as we are only about 5 miles apart Matt popped over today It turns out the bang to the hand was a bit more than a bruise - He has a hairline fracture of his right hand Metacarpal Anyway he arrived with customary greeting to the Zedshed The offending nut A 600mm breaker bar and a 6 sided socket made short work of the problem You certainly mangled that one mate Due to his injuries Mrs Keyser took pity on him and changed his belts for him ZmanAlex had supplied new nuts with the belt servicing set so they were soon put in place The man himself supporting bandaged hand and the belt that caused him so much pain!! Nice to meet you today Matt - drop in anytime we will be eating them doughnuts for the next few days (Buster didn't make it round today otherwise there would be none left )
  5. There is a little button inside - I had to use it when I put a new motor in, the window would only go halfway up until I did the full re-set with the button.
  6. Thats exactly what you need to do Have you fitted a vacum line to yours?
  7. @choptop - The bits left over are only to lighten her for performance Evening all and what a pleasant day we had down south today So we were onto the rear suspension today, starting with this - If any off you know Mini's then you may be aware that when you replace the rear bush in the suspension it has to be bored to size, usually by a machine shop - however I picked up a tip online and copied it - I got a brake cylinder honing tool and with some careful work we soon had it a lovely snug fit on the rod Action shots as Mrs Keyser was with me today All fitted with new rod, bearing. bush and rubber seals Suspension arm in On the car complete with Hi-Lo adjustable rear suspension - I set it low - and new gas shocker Same on the other side Brake shoes, backing plate, handbrake and new slave cylinders on Hub on New brake pipe and handbrake cable fitted and the other side Old wheels on for now - I may have gone a bit too low with the suspension but I'm feelin the hellaflush look Onto the front tomorrow Stay tuned for the next exciting episode.............................
  8. My first advice is Don't carry on with the mole grips - you will probably only succeed in rounding the nut further! Did you use a multipoint socket? they are usually good for rounding particularly stubborn nuts and bolts you want the 6 sided sockets they grip better. Depending on how bad it is your options are starting to run out if you can get a grip the careful application of heat may help but you may be at the cut it off and replace it point, As Ebized has said I'm just outside Bournemouth and have a fairly well equipped garage if you want to make the journey down I'll be happy to try and assist you (as long as you come bearing doughnuts) Feel free to drop me a PM.
  9. TY SuperStu - nice to know your enjoying the thread if you haven't seen it and have a spare day or 2 try my Zed build http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/52481-project-zee-business-all-change-17th-jan/page__hl__%22project+zee%22 That will be updated this winter when I do the next lot of mods - although we have a ragtop to do at some point
  10. Whats scary is we do have a cat and the neighbour has a dog
  11. This is of course a matter of opinion
  12. Yes mate - I just looked at the second set of pics on the PC - the bad news is it looks about the right thickness to be from a piston skirt If you can't see anything with the torch I think your gonna have to drop the engine and have a look - you can't not know where that came from as in carry on running the engine when big lumps of unknown metal have been found in the sump - it is possible there is more futher back. Hope you find it easily mate
  13. Front to back I don't think you could put them on inside out even on purpose and if anyone did it by mistake I'm surprised they made it past puberty
  14. I like doughnuts they are circles so circles are good
  15. Get a build thread up mate with pics we like pics Haven't been near a beetle in years! Good luck with it.
  16. That looks a bit big to be the bit I was talking about, have you ever had any work done on the cam chain? That looks like it could be from the lower part of the front cover, whatever it is I'm sure it's been done by putting the wrong bolt in somewhere. Problem is to inspect further is an engine out job unless you can see something through the sump when removed. I said don't ask but lets just say Buster may have put a long bolt in a short hole during an engine build! @ octet don't worry we can do much more damage to your car
  17. I would think that would be fine mate Buster runs more and is lowered so do I but I don't have standard front wings. I would but it does depend on the wheel some are thicker than others it also depends on what wheel nuts you use I'd trust steel a lot more than some of the light weight ones if the ammount off thread was reduced.
  18. Mr G - you need glasses or help - maybe both Whoop whoop :yahoo: Its official the rebuild has begun first bits back on the Mini tonight - only 3 months behind schedule We started by getting everything new and refurbished together As we sorted parts out they were inspected and over the last 9 months I have been ordering new parts as required including disks, bearings lots of gaiters and a complete new fuel and brake line setup including braided lines to replace the rubber pipes. Very first part back on was the steering rack after fitting new gaiters Please note my new orange gloves to match the build Here it is a part on the car it is no longer a bare shell Then we started work on the rear sub frame, new brake lines and braided hoses New poly bushes and we got the rear sub frame mounted Hope to get the rear suspension mounted along with the front sub frame and suspension on by the end of the weekend so we have a rolling shell again, the ZedShed is booked next weekend for a mad build with another member and half the forum should be in attendance Stay tuned for the next exciting episode ......................
  19. OK here we go opening ones online mouth only to stick my foot in it!!!! The piece of metal in the sump looks like it comes from the mid section/upper sump - the big ally bit that bolts to the bottom of the block and then the sump plate bolts to it. There are 2 bolts in the middle just behind the sump plate IIRC they are blind bolt holes - meaning that they do not go all the way through the casting - it looks like the top of one of those - this can be done by someone putting the wrong bolt in - i.e. an over length bolt then trying to tighten it all the way up - the result is the inside casting will snap away leaving a shard of ally usually with a small hole on one side and a bulge on the other - something like you have in the picture. As long as the metal is removed and has not gone through the engine and enough thread is left in the casing simply putting some instant gasket on the replacement bolt should stop and oil leak and not render the casting useless. Of course I cold be wrong - take the sump of and have a look I would! P.S Do Not ask how I know this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
