Sorry leonk yet another one After getting depressed about the state of the engine and knowing the other engine (with the unleaded head) has bad bores we had a rethink and I'm fairly sure we have worked out what to do with the engine / engines to sort the problem but more about that at the end of the weekend as I have to sort a few things first. In the meantime we thought as the deadline is fast approaching we had better get cracking on the rest of the work So first up is to sort the surface rust from all the welding and fabrication and the paint in the interior, it seems that the white undercoat (done by previous owner) was sprayed straight on without prep so doesn't have a good key, If I spray over the top it will either lift as I spray or may not last long term and besides I won't be happy if I don't do it myself so starting with this We went undercover This turned out to be horrid dirty work It just so happens I know someone that likes sandblasting so I sent Mrs Keyser in Nowhere near ready yet but it's coming along nicely I'm away tomorrow but hope to get a fair bit done Sunday - if the weather holds. No your always on here complaining get to it @ Octet - Don't do the new ones up as tight as the old ones you'll have less trouble

Sounds like 3rd is dead - be careful bits may be floating around the box and cause more damage to the other gears. Simplest solution is a new box He usually has them in stock

That's a damn fine first attempt IMO - Paint yup orange peel - more paint but don't get runs Those little holes - any body shop and prolly Halfords will stock "Stopper" its like a very fine filler use that first a light sand then your primer filler - now usually called HB Primer - HB = High Build - great stuff Always fun to learn

That's all well and good but when I started work the only "mobile" phone was car mounted and a "portable" stereo had to be at least 4' long and carried on the shoulder - normally with a bunch of mates and a big piece of cardboard to lay on the ground outside a shop - anyone else remember?

OK it's funny

I don't see that they would do any harm, but they put them there for a reason and if you are getting stones and crud in them the stones must be hitting close to them, how many bounced off? So if you remove them said stones are going to hit metal, the noise won't be there but after a while nor will the paint hen the rust gets in. Check if they are not just damaged or hanging a bit low. Performance, safety and MOT I don't see any problems with any if you bin them. I'll let you decide what you want to do.

That Zed looks terrible underneath! Don't they all look like this from below? I don't have a problem and have all the shields on that were there when I started maybe the bright colours keep the stones out

Well a little behind with the updates as some Muppet thought it would be possible to get a team of forum members together and fit a Vortech SC kit an oil cooler, fuel return system, injectors and a host of other stuff in a Zed in weekend!!! Honestly some people are nuts. Anyway I digresses, well the news from the Zed Shed is not good I'm afraid, and that engine had a good old laugh at my expense! So let's start here, a good old mini verto clutch all bolts off etc Now you need a special tool to remove them but I didn't have one so I made one Err bent that!!! Proper tool purchased even double plated Proper, proper tool Double plated and some serious pressure applied and the clutch you ask yup that's where it was when we started!!! Can you here it? taunting me! You know what happens when I get angry, O yes time to get medieval again!!!! Are you ready for this - those of a weak disposition may want to look away now! Boom! That's the clutch off then Meanwhile at the other end of the engine we removed the cam chain cover to find damage!! That's the bits that were once a cam chain tensioner - rest of it is no doubt floating around the engine somewhere Also found damage to the main cam drive sprocket keyway the key itself is also bent I'm guessing the tensioner went round the chain at some point - must have made a crunch when it went! So major overhaul ahead then! Stay tuned for the next exciting episode............................ '
