I always use Fuchs oil as well. Have done ever since I had a Type R around 4 years ago and highly recommend the brand imo. Do you think some of these engine failures though could just be down to the age of the vehicles & poor service histories. eg: running on wrong fuel/oil ~ not following correct service schedules ~ low oil etc. ...and just coincidence there all happening at once it seems?! I think this may be the case The blown engines you've seen recently did they all come from similar age/mileage cars? No - one was a 2006 with 65k the other a 2003 with 80k You run low / no oil in any engine you WILL kill it! performance engines just go quicker.

Welcome from Bournemouth Good luck with the hunt -
Personally I run Fuchs, Seen 2 blown engines in the last 3 weeks - I have had a 3rd but that was bad tuning and the wrong fuel. If I have time I'll strip them and see if I can find anything interesting to report back, I don't think it's oil pump failure and the engines have always been thought as almost bullet proof as long as serviced regularly the should see well over 150,000 miles without a major rebuild. unless they are being run with low oil or have another problem I'm at a loss as to why we have seen this in the last few weeks.

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. But in the Zed Shed Santas little elves (Keyser and Buster) were working away For laidBackLuke was in trouble this day As while driving his Zed a knock he did find And good old Buster said “I can sort that†for he was to kind! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello everyone I know I’m still only an infrequent visitor to the forum and the Zed Shed is only doing a few bits n bobs at the moment but as it’s the silly season me and Buster are being silly again So a forum member and visitor to the shed LaidBackLuke has had a few problems with his Zed Starting with a misfire a few weeks back that we diagnosed as a faulty coil pack, all was right with the world again, but then he got a knock Click the pic/vid below – Now we obviously diagnosed this as either a fuel damper or maybe a very warn banana arm Or maybe something a little worse? “How much worse†said Luke “Well†said Buster “A lot worse†“What’s a lot worse†asked Luke “You tell him Keyser†replied Buster So I gave him the very technical and complicated breakdown but a managed it in 4 words “Your Engine is F****d†Now Luke turned a few shades whiter at this point and was obviously concerned about not only the cost of a replacement engine but also the cost of labour………………… Along comes Santa (played by Bob) “Tell you what mate, you find an engine and me and Keyser will fit it for you, won’t we Keyser†“Bah Humbug†Says Keyser (playing the part of Ebenezer Scrooge (quite well I thought)) “No No†says Luke “I couldn’t ask you to do that!†“Nonsense its Christmas†Says Buster “We would be happy to wouldn’t we mate?†“Bah Humbug†Anyway after being visited by 3 ghosts – one of which looked like this- I thought what the hell and today we rolled her in Start the clock 0 Hours 1 Hour in 2 Hours in 3 Hours in 4 Hours in Found a few little problems – A seeping pipe Spot the mistake? Yup the power steering cooler is missing ??? Anyway we stripped the gearbox off And left it here for tonight Hopefully Luke and a replacement engine will show up tomorrow morning and we can see if this Christmas tale has a happy ending More to follow ........................

Nice one Sam well tracked

Thanks everyone Yes got married on my Birthday - didn't think I still would be though
-
See as it's your Birthday I did not mention orange seats
-
Many Happy Returns mate
-
along Don't worry about 14N winding you up he has "orange" issues
-
If your gonna build an NA VQ engine it won't lend itself to adding FI to later as you would want low comp for FI and Hi comp for NA - just a thought. Only a complete prat would put 11:1 Hi comp pistons and a set of cams in a VQ35 engine then add an SC - imagine the detonation problems! (But it still revs to 7,500 - you need to look at alternative oiling systems above that - the oiling system does not like going over that RPM as the pump is crank driven and it becomes a limiting factor)
-
For some obscure reason, Chris seems to be under the impression that I like the colour orange, no idea why He also has a 'spare' pair of orange seats.... Whatever gave me that idea????????????
-
Shredded Smurf - you? 14N will understand
-
I have a spare block already this one should be to good for that be good for a rebore and some forged pistons [subliminal message] Orange Seats [/subliminal message]

OK This is going well @ Wizurd - Blown bottom end means - No oil and the Big end bearings have been turned into metal shavings and thrown round the engine - it also gives a lovely rattling noise when revved - if you continue to drive you may even get it to blow up @ Wasso Pics to follow but here is a boring one But I'm sure SMD will supply a better pic when he reads this @ Attak Z Love this "think the opposite it a blown top end which translates as soggy saddlebags"

Hope everyone is well, I know I'm not about much at the moment but I'm still helping out a few members where I can and I happen to have this so ...... Just a quick feeler thread before I strip this down, I have a 350z VQ35DE engine with what is expected to be a blown bottom end The mechanic that removed it said it sounds like bottom end has COMPLETELY gone! Before I strip it and get the nice (read still serviceable) bits off it is anyone planning on doing a built engine and wanting a base to start from? Let me know or it's getting stripped PS I have a spare crank for a VQ in the shed (doesn't everyone? )
