Which side or do you need both sides?

+ 1 to what He said Good luck with the hunt

I managed to get my sensor out by 356 degrees All you do is take the wheel off turn the column 180 degrees so it reads 0 (easy if you have the right ODBC connector and software which I do) then re-attach your steering wheel dead straight and you can then reset the warning light and good to go. I would be skeptical of what the dealer is saying they told me the could not reset the EML as I had a supercharger fitted Strange as every other garage in the country and a £15 reader from eBay could reset it Hope that helps

I like that - so please don't post any more links for it!!!!

And this Years winners are ......................
Keyser replied to Keyser's topic in Off Topic Discussion
See what happens when I have a spare afternoon and a Man Cave to play in - not to mention a pile of engine bits that the original owner asked "is any of it reusable" -
For the total decimation of a 3.5l VQ35DE engine this years "Destruction of the Year Trophy" goes to our very own Grundy225 I'll get a plaque done soon and we can add t=the winner each year Thanks to Grundy for "sponsoring" the trophy by supplying the parts Good luck to anyone competing for it in 2015

Many Happy Returns mate

Don't go giving him ideas
-
Ahhh But I personally never do that I always Blame Buster
-
It's OK we cut an inch off Grundy's right leg showed him that it's 5th to 4th on the downshift not 5th to 2nd so all should be good for the new engine
-
I'm impressed you made it all the way home - warranty expired as you left the Zed Shed Check the oil daily for a week, keep an eye on coolant and get that new clutch run in ASAP Glad we could help out mate Looks like happy ending to this Christmas tale P.S - Kim said "I'm gonna Kill him" O boy you are in trouble now!!!

Shall I send you the in car video of it happening? I still have it as grundy hasn't been to see me yet to collect the SD card He said now he had a car he was going to collect it and burn the evidence No not really - he did say he would post it up when he got a chance - be interesting to see what happened though
-
Was it actually something he did? Or was it just one of those things? Now that's a hard one to answer if only because I don't like to miss an opportunity to take t pi$$ out of Grundy So my completely unprofessional opinion after hearing the events and stripping the engine is - A set of circumstances that resulted in catastrophic engine failure, Both the big end and crank shells show signs of wear, given that the car has done 70K some wear is to be expected, it appears that there was plenty of oil in the engine when it let go as it was everywhere when we stripped it. So take a hot day and then push the engine to the max and things get stressed the hotter the engine the tighter things run, the condition of the oil will also become a factor and the heat will mean it is thinning, add that to the possibility of oil starvation caused by hard cornering and anyone of those things can be the cause. I can tell you that piston 1 - the one that is now in bits was the point of failure or at least it's shell bearing was - It has run so hot that the crank is blackened from the heat, I would assume that it eventually split or welded itself to the crank at that point all that power and the weight of a big car has to go somewhere - in this case through the No1 con rod which first bent then broke causing at least one of the holes in the side, from then on it was bits of big end and piston being beaten around the inside of the engine that did the rest of the bottom end damage, the now jammed piston at some point hit the valve resulting in a hole in the piston and a bent valve. So did Matt do it - The only thing I can see he may have done is over rev on the downshift - He did say there were some very noisy V8's out on track so hearing your own engine was not easy but whether or not he did I think that engine would have gone regardless and I would blame oil - remember there is no oil temp sensor in a 350 and most of us look at the track more than the pressure gauge etc. I could boil the oil in my 350 on a hot day on track, I even fitted twin coolers to stop it. So in summary I recon heavy use combined with over heated oil in a slightly worn engine and it went bang. Let as all take solace in knowing we can still blame Grundy for it and whatever he says he was behind the wheel when it happened

Just got back from the garage and she flew through the MOT so Matt is on the Road again With reference to my "don't use standard fuel" there was a touch of sarcasm in there Any 99 fuel is good - this was caused by hammering the bollocks off your car round track and trying to keep up with a supercharged Zed (Andy James) while in an NA Zed. However I didn't want Matt to think I was implying his driving in any way had been the cause of the resultant pile of metal that was once an engine

Morning all Well we finished Grundys car yesterday, first job was to make sure there was no air in the cooling system bonnet and bumper back on and she drove out of the Zed Shed under her own power Grundy was feeling the love again - out came the quick detailer And now in no particular order the old engine strip - Please note the bent valve Hole in upper sump (drivers side) Hole in upper sump (passenger side) Hole in block Piston has slight damage Con Rod - WOW just WOW second piston Bits Crank Looks like the clutch needed replacing though - on the rivets So there you go this is what happens when you don't use 99 and stick cheap fuel in

WHAT ARE YOUR NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS IN 2015. ?.
Keyser replied to WhackyWill's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Have a better year than the last one 2014 will not go down as my best year - hopefully 2015 will be a good one -
The smoke and on fire comment were both caused by the new headers "burning" in nothing to worry about.

I think the issue is the difference between bent and buckled - as in the pic above (StevoD post) that is buckled yours appears to have a "bent" rim - heavy curbing will do that and you can argue therefore that the rim is buckled so you could certainly ask to return it and see what happens. The other side to it is that a buckled wheel is hard if not impossible to repair a "bent/buckled" rim can usually be repaired quite easily by most wheel specialists, although as said above a lot of wheels are like this will still take a tyre and hold air and can be balanced so if it is not noticeable with a tyre on could be used as is. Not telling you what you should or shouldn't do just trying to help I hope you get a suitable solution as quickly cheaply and painlessly as possible

I'm with the others, A good forged build is big bucks so unless you want more on day 1 don't do it yet. 400 at the wheels is good numbers much passed that and getting the traction down is a factor, so yes above that a forged engine is called for but so are stiffer bushes harder suspension maybe an LSD etc etc you will then end up starting to affect the car it becomes more race and less road so unless you want either a track or very fast road car I would stay around the 400 mark it will be pretty damn rapid and more than quick enough for road use while still being a comfy DD. My 370 runs 440 at the wheels and is quicker in a straight line than the old 350 at a hair over 450 at the wheels (without the NOS) but the 370 is still very comfy and could be a DD easily the 350 would out handle it but was not as refined for daily driving and cruising around in.

This is what the Zed sounded like before the swap To be fair given the amount of damage I amazed she even started First start up sounds better now Tomorrow we will finish putting her back together - bumper, under tray etc bleed the radiator quick test drive then she will be booked in for a new MOT
