Horrendous, what a terrible accident
-
No idea on history, its a Cat C so will most likely have had some structural damage (but not a given). Have you checked the MoT history, it has a stack of advisories (leaking exhaust, tyres on the limit, oil leak, surface corrosion, play in steering rack plus a few others) - appreciate its the cheapest one on ebay but sounds like it could be a bit of a money pit, do have a slush fund ready to fix things up?
-
Just for reference I put this on, it’s pretty potent and the mask was needed. Easy to apply and it’s fantastic stuff, throw a bucket of water on the wheel and within a second or two it’s bone dry. Brilliant stuff.

No offence, but if there was ever a car I would swerve it would be that one!

I think just weigh up whats important to you as you have and know what you are looking at - this thread gives you a view on what imports look like
-
Just also bear in mind, that there are two specs on UK cars GT vs Non-GT, for imports there are many versions in between.
-
I dont think thats actually a thing - if its been imported and not properly undersealed then you will see that the car will experience as much corrosion as any other UK car. I have owned an imported R33 and Celica GT4 and both were extensively undersealed. Ive also seen imported cars not done properly that are falling apart. Imports are few and far between, especially when you factor in your price and colour. I would assess each car on its merits not its origin.

Welcome along, did you say above your preference was imported? Any reason for that?

The Type 131 (my VX220 is the Type 116) final combustion engine car from Lotus called the Emira has been announced. Obviously they have the insanely fast Evija but sounds like Lotus are styling it in a very similar style to that staying close to their roots of road feel and control. Pricing sitting between Cayman and 911 depending on spec. I do hope they make it easier to get in and out of though https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/first-official-pictures/lotus/emira/

What you have described is bang on RSx Audi territory I would say. Just bear in mind that everyone I know that gets in an Audi (R8 aside) describes the numb feel-less drive to them. Are you worried about driving dynamics? You can see what I went for post-zed but I doubt it suits your needs

Another small but super important job done today, noticed some hesitation around 4000rpm the other day, whipped a plug out and it looked like it needed regapping - these cars can be a little grumpy without them done properly. For the sake of £40 I bought some new plugs (NGK Iridium grade 6) gapped them all to 0.6mm and swapped them over. The difference was huge, you don’t realise just how much 0.05mm gap difference can make to the drive and performance.

Welcome back rothers

I’m 5’11” and fit in fine. Getting in and out is the trick, once in you are sitting very low in the car.

Haha yeah totally. Due to the space in the cabin, behind the passenger seat is the only realistic location for one, so was restricted to boxes that were no more than 7cm deep. When I first put it on I was a bit disappointed, I guess that set my expectations much lower when I tuned it and was quite blown away by how much extra bass you get when you set it up right! Just the right amount of gain so its not thumping to low down the volume range.

So the European Super League doesn't look very super anymore. 48 hours of utter chaos. I honestly never thought I would see the day when clubs in football would have thought it was okay to be in a competition, with no competition. I guess thats the American sports model for you. Still, it will go down as a pub quiz question for years to come...who is the only manager to be sacked by an ESL team

I got the Alpine 92BT unit which when purchased was one of the better units the range. But yes when I first switched it on it was very flat, at first just played with the auto settings on the app and suddenly Boom! As you can imagine the cabin is very small but I have that in there now with a pair of 16.5cm 3 way JBL speakers right behind the head rests, plus a standard set of tweeters in the dash (potentially could change these too) it sounds pretty good!

-
I downloaded an App which plugs direct into the Alpine headunit, its has a load of ways of setting up the music on the phone which is much easier than navigating a little head unit screen. I now have some nice punchy bass in the car, happy as Larry, whoever Larry is, and why he is always happy I am not sure, but I am as happy as he is. I actually think I am now done with the interior. 2 years ago I started planning it, thought it would take 6 months max! Full list is: Carpeted the interior Retrimmed seats and doors Leather handbrake and gear gaitor Momo gear knob and carbon gear shaft cover Retrimmed Momo steering wheel Lined the roof in matching blue alcantara Alcantara black the sills Alpine head unit, JBL speakers and Kenwood sub installed Redyed the faded alcantara dash Sprayed the dash plates New light switch panel Changed out the huge astra rear view mirror for a cute little Smart Car one Installed dash cam A fair amount of work given the small and sparse nature of the car!
-
Yeah I’m sure it just takes a bit of tweaking - but fed up with it for now will do it tomorrow!
-
Sub installed. Have to say for all the effort it was a bit underwhelming might have a play with the settings a bit. Was a pain the backside to install but it’s done now. It did fit very nicely in the recess behind the passenger seat though.

Quite a few on ebay starting at around £175

We have a winner! Yes the old switch set are from an old Vectra, if they fail you basically are left paying upwards of thirty quid on eBay auctions to try and secure an old plastic switch. So went for it and bought a new switch set a trader has developed. But if a faff as you have to modify the switch housing with a dremel but got there until he end ...and yes offset steering wheels are all the rage, you haven’t tried it yet?

Good to see on another thread that the Import ECU is an £80 fix thats readily available.

Was going through the mountains of stuff I have bought for a clear out and found this, opened up and had a read of the instructions and I think I will give it a go. Maybe wait till Monday when the chance of rain is nil though. Anyone tried this or a product like it?
