Just going to have to admit on this occasion Dan you are wrong Go on, you might feel a lovely warm glow inside and want to hug random strangers in the street.

Well today's the day, looks like May is on to a hiding, Corbyn continues his quest to 'get a general election at the expense of the UKs economy so he can tell his family he got into power even if it means financial ruin' and many more people on either side get back to calling each other liars and that the MPs on their side lie less than those on the other...has May got a brilliant secret plan B, or is she just so blinkered she still thinks today will go ok for her?

Because its a BMW

Only stats I can find are on Toyota website which shows 340 DIN hp, 500NM torque 0-62 in 4.3 seconds, top speed 155mph. Have to say, thats pretty quick and easily comparable to the Cayman which is more expensive. I guess if you don't want to join the legions of Porsche owners and want something different but still competes in performance terms its an option...
-
He is annoying as... Banzai Mag just posted up the 0-62 time as 4.3 seconds which is not slow. I think it's one of those which needs a proper drive to really see if it's got something special about it. £50k feels like a lot but if performance wide it's up there with a Cayman S it might be about right...of course have to see build quality yet.
-
On first sight, the performance does appear somewhat underwhelming as does the interior. Some nice stats about 50:50 weight distribution etc. so we have yet to see how good a car it is to drive. For me the looks are good, not too overly hunkered down to put off all but hardcore buyers but aggressive enough to see the potential of a few mods.

335bhp and a bit higher in torque...not ground breaking and a bit tame by 6 cylinder turbo charged standards. I am sure it can be boosted a far bit with a remap but as a headline you might be disappointed. In any case, the award for most cringeworthy on stage performance of the year goes to...

When I see the actual HD images of the car proper on the road I quite like the look of it! Obviously no production car ever looks like the concept but I do like the car in its OEM form, I bet it would look pretty good dropped an inch or two and better wheels.
-
Yes I think with a few minor mods (stubby and spacers!) it will look a bit more meaningful. We are not Clarkson on here where we think that a minor mod will instantly cause a car to explode or become undrivable! If anyone needs to recruit some rough around the edges social media coordinators that speak spanish, might find a few going spare in Mexico...

I have just joined a gym and got a personal trainer, didnt realise how effective getting one could be! I checked online (there is a Gov.uk page on checking official recalls) and nothing on there about rear windows, suspect the forums guys on the renualt pages probably called it a recall but in reality it was just renault replacing them in warranty at the time IF they did go pop.
-
Might be worth a call to Renault, although checked insurance and £75 gets it done via that which I am sure would be much quicker. Worth a go though...
-
Nooooo, it will doom us all!
-
...actually a quick google took me to the mk2 renaultsport page, seems like all mk2 meganes were subject to a recall and having rear windows replaced under warranty due to many doing exactly this. I guess ours wasnt done and not sure Renault will cover our 14 year old shed me thinks...
-
Just a random one, not after a solution or the like as I am sure the missus will be ringing the insurance in the morning, but anyone had their rear window explode before? I just jumped into the missus Megane (55 plate so an old one) I pulled the door shut relatively firmly but not excessive, enough to close the door and the rear window just shattered. Scared the living daylights out of me but got out and took a look, the middle of the window has shattered with glass inside and out, the edges are still in place around the window frame but all cracked in tiny pieces. Anyone had something like this happen to them? Its cold out, but not excessively about 5-6 degrees. Just bizarre its just exploded because I closed the door!

Well its about to enter into a very turbulent year in the UK, lets see how all manufacturers get on. Saw just now that Honda will close down for a week post Brexit date to handle any potential logistical problems.

I get the retro look, but the modernised version has got it all wrong, it looks a mish mash of things - it doesn't have an identity in my opinion. The front looks retro the back tries to look too modern and fails. But hey, subjective as you say, although would like to see a Poll of who prefers what based on the pictures of A110 and 4C above...

-
One just looks much better than the other, and looks the part for me...trying to put my finger on what the A110 looks like, I am sure it will come to me!
-
Aye fair enough, only commenting on what I have witnessed on the road and the car moving. In terms of presence i.e. looks the Alpine looked like a parts bin effort with a weird duck tail with 911 vents and bizarre light strip at the back which made it look all hunched up and squat then the front was very flat, odd looking dual lights even the lights looked like they came from two different cars, it just looked squat at the back and thin and lacking purpose at the front - if it pulled up behind me I would have thought it was a warm hatch Hyundai or something in the mirror.

Welcome along Jeremy - and sensible questions also. Personally having owned the DE and then been in an HR my bum-o-meter seemed to indicate a definite difference in performance that I could notice. Also as I understand it the later cars have the 009 gearboxes in which are less clunky/more reliable than the earlier DE ones (happy to be corrected here). The performance in the 370 is not a big step up from the HR but the interior is, iI fact if in car comfort is on your priority list the 350z will disappoint as it is very basic, my current 1995 Celica GT4 has just as good interior as a 350z DE. Trim difference HR to DE is marginal in my opinion, some bits and bobs are a bit nicer, you also will get the better headlights and rear LEDs with the later cars. In terms of tax, if you are paying nigh on ten grand I wouldnt worry about it, you could buy an older DE and get a £1k bill in for perishables on it, suddenly a few hundred quid for a newer car doesn't seem too bad. Ultimately its £5 a week more or something along those lines (does anyone think twice when buying a sandwich and coffee and throwing a fiver at the shop owner?), and personally I believe the HRs will hold their value in future better than the DEs as they are the 'better' car of the range of 350z. Ultimately, go drive a few. Plenty for sale around usually.

The 4C definitely, styling wise its very italian and holds its own - it sounded much better than the Alpine that drove past me, in fact I could barely hear it on tick over whereas the 4C rumbled past sounding like it had a V8 at its heart. The MX5 isnt a £50k car and aimed at a different market so not a fair comparison - but up alongside the 4C the A110 just looks like spare parts bin effort vs perfected Italian styling and the noise is night and day, on looks presence and noise alone the 4C is head and shoulders above the A110 in my opinion.

I havent done as much reading on this subject as you guys but I am sure the bean counters at Nissan will have a defining say on what happens next. Having seen the sales figures 350z to 370z would it make economic sense for them to bother building a new Z car in the near future? Personally concerning the EU I would be more concerned about where I site my production and head office facilities post March 2019 and looking at the rapidly changing dynamics of drive train, fuel costs, attacks on diesel (look at JLR this morning) consumer demand moving to SUVs etc. Sports cars in all their derivatives make up less than 1% of European car sales, unless Nissan have a point to prove in that segment I cannot see financially any reason for them to do this right off the back of such poor sales of the 370z.

Saw one yesterday on the Strand outside work in the metal...in blue...it was as hideous as the pictures. No Road presence and looked like a mashed up peogeot 911 Aston + some warm hatch derivative. From an aesthetic point of view and road presence it looked odd, like a kit car or something.

Are you sure? Where did you source the data? A quick look at the carsalesbase website shows closer to 7000 at its peak. Nissan 350Z 2009 424 2008 1411 2007 2493 2006 3955 2005 5598 2004 6959 2003 2187 Nissan 370Z 2017 894 2016 842 2015 760 2014 669 2013 754 2012 1029 2011 1458 2010 2211 2009 1032

I would agree with JP that other cars did do well over the last ten years - the fact that we have discussions on here that its not worth getting a cheap 370z and instead getting a better conditioned HR really shows that the 370z was not the step up that was needed to truly differentiate one generation from the next. I think unfortunately with green issues being raised all over the place, constant messaging by the government about how they will tax the hell out of anyone that dares drive a petrol/diesel car and the eventual placement of ULEZs across the country (don't think London will be the only one) will kill off the petrol driven performance car. Think ahead, the Z car after the next Z car will probably have an electric engine, so if Nissan were planning the long term future of the Z car what are they looking at for the next one?
