Looks similar to what I am experiencing. Biting point is almost all the way up when releasing the clutch peddle, when I give it some boot it revs up then comes back then starts to build. Clutch Kit and Flywheel ordered from Sir Alex and getting installed on Saturday, so no car until then.

Awesome price, awesome car. Jealous of whoever snaps that up.

Black 350z, scratch marks NOW visible after polish
coldel replied to coldel's topic in Car Detailing
Any views on a good machine polisher to buy? I dont want to go crazy and spend £100+ on one as I am currently recovering from a Clutch purchase... -
I'm wondering if I could just vinyl wrap in black? Have a go myself? I would like to do quite a few parts of the interior, to get someone to do it would cost a couple of hundred I suspect which is why an easy to stick on kit appealed somewhat.

Read this post... http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=32280 At the price you are asking ie £9k you are looking at early models which when launched Orange seemed to get chosen quite a lot. No idea why, but when I was looking at around the £9k mark it was certainly the most available colour. I can't vouch for colour popularity of later models which cost more.

Ordered a new kit and flywheel from Alex, going to put the clutch in next weekend. Anyone done one of these before? Anything to look out for? How much needs to be taken off to get at the thing?
-
Yeah its definitely a buyers market, if you got cash ready to go then you are in a good position to bargain for it. Especially the Orange of which there are plenty of them going around. You should be looking for a 04 plate (sometimes 05) GT pack, also keep an eye on the alloys, standard are the 6 spoke you can see on my signature, there is an upgraded set called Rays which are better quality (do a quick search on here) and worth getting if you can. If you find a few you are serious about, drop a post on here with the links I am sure people can give you a good informed view, some may even have taken a look at them already or know the car.
-
Yeah I saw that ad, he is talking nonsense. Like I said, its harder to shift the non GT models didn't realise some people had got that desperate.

Oh and insurance wise, I pay about £600. But I'm old. And I am a 'consultant' which helps. And post code is insurance friendly.

I just spent a touch under 9k for my Zed so happy to pass on a few little nuggets I have picked up over the last 4 weeks. - check for clicky rear axle, its a clank if you pull away in 1st or reverse. Its a £300 part to replace if you have that noise. - mine had 42k miles on it when I bought it (04 plate) clutch went about 2k miles later, £600 in parts cost. I have also heard of problems with the windows electrics, so make sure to check those. There are two types of 350z in effect, a GT and non GT version. Only differences are the sound system, heated leather seats and cruise control I think. When looking online i found plenty of non GT versions which haven't sold for months. GT versions though seem to fly off the shelves. Worth bearing that in mind. Check the tyre tread, its circa £500 for a good set of replacement tyres. Standard tyres are Bridgestones but a good replacement set are Falkens or Vredesteins, Michelins are top of the range though. There are plenty of Burnt Orange at the £9k price range, those and Silver are the most common. Then you will find a fair few Gun Metal colured cars, followed by a few Blue and the occasional Black. You will also note some apparent bargains, mostly these are Japanese Import cars (you can identify by the rear square number plates) and are a bit higher on the insurance than the UK sourced cars - other than that they are pretty much the same thing and drive just as well by all reports - you just need to be aware that there can be some unknown history prior to the import date. You might see some cars offering built in sat nav, unless its got Nurrish stamped all over it (have a look on the threads here) it is a Bird View sat nav that came with the car (if its an import with sat nav it wont work at all) the Bird View I have heard is a bit poor and has no updates on it for a few years, dont let a dealer or seller try to haggle on price because of the sat nav, it really adds little value to the car. Make sure to check the service schedule, there is a link on the site somewhere which shows how often it should be serviced, look for Nissan stamps and that its up to date. Check the MoT and any recommendations on the MoT, these will cover things like tyres, exhaust etc which might need replacing soon. Listen to the engine for any noises like its been thrashed, any clicking, tapping etc. If in doubt get RAC or one of the engine minded guys on here to take a look for you (someone from the site kindly offered to check one over for me in Cornwall, I didn't end up looking at it but its great people on here are willing to do this). On that note, take a second set of eyes with you. I went alone and bought the car, I fell for it the second I saw it and could have bargained more on price in retrospect, I went with my heart not my head and now having to spend a fair bit getting it up to speed after a bit of neglect by the previous owner. Have you had a look on the Zeds for Sale section on the site? Also post onto the Wanted section that you are after one, a few members may be selling and the cars on here are generally in fantastic condition which other members will vouch for. Before the clutch went on mine, it was a joy to drive the second the V6 roared into life - enjoy!

Motorists have occasionally reported similar things when they drove past a secret government listening / spy station near us. Urban myth?? Not much of a secret is it?

I had a 2 year old Astra, just driving along and suddenly engine dies, needles go to max on all the dials, then as I sit there aghast the engine starts itself back up again and all is back to normal I think sometimes the computer just has a bit of a wobbly and its generally a one off.
-
A couple more questions, did you use any sort of heat? A hair dryer or heat gun? George, I had a carbon wrap on a previous car, I peeled it off along with some boiling water and it did leave a little residue in parts although nothing a bit of white spirit didn't shift quickly.
-
Actually...i do have a dragon tattooed on my arm, what if I got it copied onto a sticker then had it put on the car...
-
Might have a go taking a set in black actually...
-
Cheers mate. I actually prefer it to the standard trim which is a bit dull. Obviously not shiny silver but something a bit understated would be nice. I guess for circa 80 quid it might be worth a punt, especially considering how tatty a seven year old dash can look!
-
If only I had Rays! Cant imagine it adds much to the stock alloys?
-
Any views on this? Apart from the fact that to make it RHD they have just flipped a photo of a LHD install? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NISSAN-350Z-350-Z-2003-2004-2005-DASH-TRIM-KIT-/270736032863?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f0920045f

Liking that a lot

Nightmare indeed mate! I got a 1/2inch crack on mine, came with the car, thought I was being clever by thinking I could just get it done on the insurance once I got it back. Turns out once National Windscreens came along and looked at it that the previous owner had got a DIY job done on it and it was full of resin but not done within a vacum So only option now is to replace the windscreen, so will be watching this thread with interest!
-
I know, a thousand quid on parts in the 3 weeks since buying the car, fortunately have a brother and dad who are both car mechanics which takes the sting out of the labour cost!
-
Haha I had no intention of buying it, still recovering from open wallet surgery on the replacement CV joint and Clutch!

Currently at £12! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NISSAN-350Z-INFIN ... 5d2e7e21fc

I'm not going to get into a debate on this, had it too many times before. But my comment really was aimed at this 'close the borders' style approach to immigration which is nonsense. Also the 'coming to the country with skills' as quoted above is also something you cannot classify or pick and choose when allocating who is a legal immigrant. I agree with you that working abroad is tough and you get treated like an alien, Dubai must have been tough I had to live in Tokyo, for a couple of years rather than a couple of months. Then you get a real feel for what it's like to be excluded from society - and for that reason that is something we should NOT do to other people. On the issue of 'illegals' often they have had to go the 'snake head' route or similar. The problem is that these immigration gangs hold them under a hand of steel after promising a land of riches, yet you rarely see anything being done about the root cause of the problem its always about the end product which is the people who are simply deported which is just a patch over the real problem. haha ended up still writing loads, I guess my point was that its not a simple solution. There should be not single bucket of immigration or indeed two where you are legal or not based on 'bringing skills', and I often find a lot of views on immigration very one dimensional when they haven't been an immigrant themselves.
-
Again I think this definition of immigrant that has worth is ambiguous. What if someone comes from India and works 18 hours a day in a shop his uncle twice removed or whatever owns? That's more effort than most 'natives' would be bothered to put in yet he has arrived lacking skills and contributes to the country. We always see people of african or asian origin working the 'dirty' jobs, but not because they lack skill but because they are jobs most native born wont consider - good on them for putting in the effort to earn a wage I say. For every illegal immigrant there are five times as many natives living here who were born here who are taking-the-michael and claiming illegal benefits or just being damn lazy and relying on the tax payer to fun their pint down the pub every day because their big toe has been too swollen to work for six years. /endrant
