  1. As above, many politicians do not come through on promises but at least behind those promises are a reasonable business plan to achieve them and usually external factors that ultimately prevent them from achieving them. Boris on the other hand just makes up stuff as he goes along with I suspect a Trump like view that when it doesn't actually happen because he has no plan he will simply use deflection politics to point at others.
  2. Like I say mate, looking forwards to the 40% tax level moving, all these extra coppers, and the million other things he said he would do. Like I say, I wish I could find a career where repeated failure results in promotion - surely the Peter Principle has to apply to Boris at some point because he is way past his level.
  3. Yes agreed on the Renault, my mate had one when I was at uni - for a small petrol engine it was lightning quick and probably a death trap but was still very quick!
  4. The guy must have some nous about him, I mean he was an unmitigated failure in his previous roles and he got promoted. Only in politics! I am sure he is a smart guy, his bumbling persona seems to work with the general population, enough the membership I guess feel to get them through a GE. However I am sure we will see over the coming months the unraveling of all his punchy talk coming to a similar position as TM ended up in on Brexit.
  5. haha Stu! Renewable energy certainly isn't free, it costs money and resource to build and wind turbines do fail and need repairing but that is the nature of machinery and not confined only to wind turbines. The lifetime costs of power production used to be heavily weighted towards traditional power generation but now renewables over their lifetimes cost less. I have to agree I would prefer my energy to come from renewable sources and in all honesty it makes absolute sense that as an island surrounded by windy seas that we make the most of it. Amazing how companies store electricity though, it isn't all in batteries - they use hydropumping stations so use the spare electricity to pump water to an uphill reservoir then when demand increases for power they release the water which runs down through the turbines creating electricity. Clever stuff.
  6. I have mixed views on this - I think we should all agree that waste was terrible ten years ago with plastic being buried in the ground and tonnes of it not even getting there and thrown out of car windows to make its way into ecosystems. We have improved on a number of issues around plastics but only scratching the surface really with pay for a bag and paper straws, hardly climate saving stuff that. My best mate runs a renewable energy company and his views are pretty compelling in terms of energy production, his company overproduces by some margin they have to spend just as much storing the stuff as they do producing it. In fact Scotland actually ran itself for something like a full day on just renewable energy recently so power production is really shifting. Then I also met an ecologist professor at a recent school kids party, she is vegan and throws big numbers around about fish stocks, methane etc. and just says we all need to go vegan and thats it - at least one person is realist and one is idealistic! The power argument is an interesting one, as production of renewable is 24 hours a day, basically if we shifted as much power usage to overnight (like only charging mobiles/tech at night instead of during the day) renewable would pretty much support it all.
  7. I am sure the internet meme's, those in the public believed, are right and the treasury reports available online to anyone are wrong. Sure of it.
  8. I tell you what would be funny, if it wasn't actually £350m a week at all, can you imagine, if it was something like just two thirds of that That our now PM deliberately misled the public, can you imagine that!
  9. Looking forwards to this £350m a week we will have to spend come November...
  10. ...and he's in, after his 'brief' statement Looking forwards to his pledges around never letting Heathrow build a 3rd runway, increasing 40% tax threashold to 80k and sticking 20,000 extra coppers on the street.
  11. Its a shame Spitting Image isn't still around, their sketch of Boris meeting Trump would be TV gold
  12. Pretty sure we are 20 mins away from Bumbling Boris becoming prime minister...
  13. Do look into it properly, companies can exchange your details with companies they do not own, check the privacy policy on direct line to see where they might have shared the data.
  14. Not sure how good the roads would be heading north to south, you are driving away from the best ones
  15. I presume you mean Festival of Speed Bri? I did the whole stay over with some mates who travelled down from Middlesbrough - they had a combo of tents and a motorhome. Also had a pop up cover to stand under at night with the BBQ! They had a great time and over the course of a few days there is plenty to see, it takes a good few days to walk around everything. Do bear in mind its weather impacted, I went on the Sunday this year and it threw it down all day which made for a bit of an anti-climax, the cars cant drive up the hill that quickly, and the schedules get changed/cancelled. But if you are there for 4 days then you will I am sure get at least a few days good weather, you would be unlucky in July to have rain each day!
  16. Arent the Ford Focus RS the equivalent of the Escort RS cars? Didn't the Focus replace the Escort?
  17. Welcome along - I would browse the subforum you have just posted in it is full of videos, reviews etc. You need to quote a budget, you have lower end stuff like Cobra and much higher end titanium options if you are willing to spend a few thousand. Browse a few trader sections like Tarmac, Torqen etc. on here too who offer up good insight into exhaust options. Most people go for sports cats alongside the exhaust, rather than decats, just to make the MOT that bit easier.
  18. Just for fun, given the recent Supra re-birth (love it or hate it) what other cars of distant past do you think should be reborn, and why? I saw in the flesh the new NSX the other day, and it did look glorious.
  19. I would argue Sex is binary, not Gender.
  20. Chances are I can see Boris collapsing on the whole thing anyway under pressure from all the religious groups, so it's probably going to be a non-event anyway.
  21. Well end of series already, that was quick! My summary: Some good specials, some a bit average/poor Celebrity bit is shockingly bad Seems like the show is a bit short on car reviews FF is definitely the weak link, but shone a little in the last episodes Iceland racing Paddy was better than expected although he is already wearing on me a bit CH is getting better and better
  22. When you provide a link to the data showing that teaching children about true family relationships is confusing and damaging to them, I will do the work for you and pull out the data from the reports... ...I suspect the best outcome is to end the debate here and see what is actually implemented this September. If we see five year olds running around suddenly confused that they now have to consider their friends might not have a traditional old fashioned mummy and daddy scenario whilst they are still learning up to their times tables, reading, writing, religion, science, art, multiple sports, foreign languages, crafts, history, space so on and so forth, I will gladly stand corrected that it was far too much for them to take in and should have stuck to the aforementioned simple stuff Personally I am interested to see how this pans out for my son as he is at a CoE school - clearly not anywhere on a level with other highly religious schools which push a selected religion onto children as there are children of other faiths/non faiths like myself there, but will be interested to see whats implemented.
  23. Its in the data, teachers are not equipped at primary and secondary school to deal with LGBT style questions from children this is called out time and again across multiple studies, primary age covers 4 and above. And as above, they are not making a special class, this idea needs to go away as its fabrication at this stage, they are making teaching inclusive and consistent. Not sure if people feel threatened as a parent that people feel that they cannot answer this question for children, but big percentages in the data show teachers need support and a consistent framework to educate children - if kids were being educated at home sufficiently, nearly 100% of teachers wouldnt have said they have had to deal with questions around LGBT issues, unless of course you ignore that evidence. There is also evidence in the reports that show that early adopter schools that have adopted LGBT learning as part of family education have reduced LGBT bullying by over 50% - these are real numbers, not anecdotes, real data based on implementation. As Stu hinted to, you can either hide from it and have it dealt with in an inconsistent way/hope that all parents have a fair view on it, which as we know is not going to be true as homophobia/religious rejection/poor understanding is a thing. When educating children we can give schools the framework to work around it an educate children when discussing relationships in primary schools / sexual relationships in secondary schools. Personally I am for the latter that being informed in the right way, a consistent way, around the modern world, is best for children. I also get that people are never going to agree on this, so kinda think I will leave it there now
  24. The funny thing is that this is part of a wider change to teaching this year, yet the media focuses on this specific thing to generate hate around it. The wider change is covering many facets that are now part of children's lives that the current curriculum is so old and out of date that it ignores. Health teaching will now focus on many things such as mental health, how to look after yourself, recognise when your friend might be in trouble or to sensible self care such as being outdoors, spending time with friends, being social, getting enough sleep etc. Clearly excessive time on electronic devices can become unhealthy, the dangers of posting online and how that might impact children further down the line (some adults celebrities could learn from this too!).
