  1. I just found a post from Ian last year with the same diagram! So the trolley jack goes under the front centre section, then the axle stands on the side once its up?
  2. ...to lift the front, where are they!
  3. They know me in there - sure it will be ok!
  4. Might go over to B&Q/Halfords and see if they will let me try it under the car before committing!
  5. Cheers Neil, will have a look at that...just thought, would a Zed go up onto car ramps at the front?
  6. ..want to go buy a car jack that will go under the Zed, my Zed isn't lowered, standard ride height. I want to actually go buy a jack rather than order online and wait - any suggestions? B&Q, Halfords all sell normal ones but no low level ones, do I need a low level one? I would have thought so?
  7. All fine on my Stillen no idle problems or the like
  8. Have to say the star in a reasonably priced car is tiring - although from a political point of view getting stars of various levels on the show sometimes to promote films/shows works behind the scenes to keep Top Gear going. I actually record it and then watch it later in the evening so can forward past the chaff like that.
  9. Could take a month or so for the squealing to stop mate...I had a mid range set on before my black diamonds (which without shims didnt squeal) and they just squealed constantly for about 6 weeks.
  10. See your point mate, and have had a copper give me the same talk 'I saw a babies arm in pieces etc' but this was after talking at me like a child for ten minutes, it was unnecessary and only required if the person you are talking to is not taking in what you are saying. Rebecca knew she had done wrong, she knew as soon as he pulled her up on it that she had been stupid, she was upset, apologising and realised it was stupid. Just pulling her up, issuing the ticket was enough - but he carried on, and on, and on, even when she was almost in tears he carried on talking at her like a child and it passed the point of educating and to the point she felt he was intimidating her, speaking down to her and treating her badly. That is not good policing. The point I was making is 'establishing authority' and talking to adults like children is totally counteractive to that and a lot of police despite doing it time and again still dont seem to get it. Lack of emotional intelligence? Lack of the correct training? Lack of intelligence in the police force who conduct the training? Probably a mix of it all. I wonder, harking back to that video post of the guy putting the policeman in his place, if after the policeman returned to his car I said to him: "Now, that was a silly thing to do wasn't it" "You were making things up weren't you" "I have seen people go to prison for lying in court, do you want to go to prison, are you sorry, will you do it again" No policeman would put up with the way some of them speak to the public if someone spoke down to them in the same way, it would be insulting and degrading, yet they seem to think that is the way to deal with the public. I think its institutional unfortunately, hence wont change.
  11. OK, I know he is 1 week old, but he has had a bit of money off relatives etc (which I borrowed off Alfie yesterday at the shops! Lending the old man money already lol) so thought why not start a savings account for him. I am a little confused about how it all works there seems to be a good deal with Halifax but has anyone else done this and have any sage advice?
  12. Hope you don't mind, I can't resist playing with photos!
  13. Very good point there Ekona. Think you may have hit the nail on the head. So maybe the ones ive met are just following their training orders, rather than being arrogant. But I think there is a big difference between establishing authority and speaking down to or belittling someone. Rebecca was sat in a traffic jam on the wandsworth one way system and foolishly checked her phone (tempting as when the traffic stops on that one way system you are sat there for some time and some people switch the engine off!) and she got caught. She knew she had done wrong, in fact she was quite upset about it but the policeman spoke to her like a child and generally made her feel worse and she actually couldn't drive all the way home without stopping a few times to get over it, it was quite traumatic for her. She hasn't got a malicious bone in her body and has never been in trouble with the police but got treated like a common criminal and they continually made her feel worse and worse despite her obvious distress and that she was physically shaking. Establishing authority is not speaking to adults like children. Unfortunately its the same story you hear time and time again. Police speaking to adults like children and that is not establishing authority by any stretch, in fact is likely to make the person react in a childish manner. Police unfortunately seem to think behaving in this way is how you 'teach them a lesson' which is just moronic - you just get too many that are on their power trips who think they are 'telling someone off'. /endrant
  14. My mate drove a VXR and was a bit disappointed with it, felt the handling was a bit off and not as fast as it should have been. He went for a Clio 197 in the end, quick car, practical and good reviews, maybe a consideration?
  15. Due to baby arrival this week havent stepped into the Zed that often, after commuting in it since I bought it...got in this morning 7am and went for a drive, god I missed it! What a super commuter the Zed is
  16. Stuck my tuppence worth on there - found I had written a small essay at the end and couldnt be bothered to edit it so posted it. God there are some woefully informed morons on there.
  17. Would have thought it would peel to be honest, RTBiscuit will know
  18. There is a little button on Alex's posts, PM, click that and send a message over, be as explicit as possible about what you need etc Chin up about the car though mate, all can be repaired, maybe take the opportunity to upgrade a few bits... have a look through the for sale section on here.

  20. I just joined PH just to post something reasonable up on that thread, and got told that new members cant post due to 'abuse from a large number of them earlier in the day'
  21. It was called CDT in my time at school, although as I was at the 4th worst school in the country (7 of us in my year out of 125 got 5 Cs or above at GCSE ) we couldn't afford the gear so we had to walk to a neighbouring school and use their stuff. I remember designing an ultra slim walkman which stored music 'magically' on the walkman where the buttons were flush against the outer case of the walkman so you only had to touch them for them to work and it had a digital display on the front, I was 14 at the time so 1989, well before Mr Jobs even thought up an iPod . I got an E because 'it was just totally unrealistic and impractical for a practical class' ... We could design things in design class, but they had to be things that were already designed. Anyway I digress, yes I loved it as a class, I really liked the design and drawing element of it and would be a travesty if it were removed.
  22. Did you have shims on the pads you replaced? They need to go back on, if they are missing (and they commonly are) the pads will squeal for a while. Also copper paste on the backs of the pads helps. Mine are missing the shims, they squealed for a short while then the noise stopped altogether.
  23. When my new brakes went on I had to drive from Essex to Berkshire, around the M25, I simply drove at legal speeds towards each junction, came off, braked hard right down then re-entered the motorway, did this at each junction! But yes, the notice from the manufacturers does lack a bit of realism, I don't have private roads I can use either but without breaking any motorway speed limits my brakes bedded in just fine
  24. Just read through it - god there are some muppets in this world - and they aren't afraid to prove it to you
  25. Haha that is not a bad effort, love the petpetter petting a horse on the top of the box! Good work!
