  1. Correct in most instances but what about pro drag racing? They are unbelievably skilled, it's not a case of just putting your foot down. Anyone they thinks so is clueless. It is a good point, you need fast cars for straight lines, but it gets to a point where you need a very good driver to drive fast in a straight line! Hammond+Drag Car= ....
  2. Saw this post earlier minutes after it appeared, smiled to myself given the 'epic threads' thing that came up just today absolutely prime for it.
  3. Noooo, not ALL BMW, Audi, Horse and Cycle owners - but most
  4. Surely not, doesn't sound like me at all! I remember when the guy was ranting at me I actually decided not to reply and just wait and see what happened, I wondered if the 350z community was a strong as I thought it was, and you duly obliged with a quite emphatic answer in the positive!
  5. Yes! Funny one that, we had to all guess what it was or something and then up popped a beige SC Jetta - I think the conversation then went on about BHP to weight ratio etc - watching too much Fast and Furious me thinks!
  6. I remember when I bought the VX220 I put it up on here as ex-zed owners tend to and got a barrel full from some newbie telling me to get off this board and telling me how slow my car was...it was proper full on chav ranting...I think Dan then windmilled in with comments containing the words such as 'bell' and 'end' before most people then pointed out to the guy that it was in the 'Other cars' section of the forum. Not an epic by any means but in terms of making a plonker of yourself as a newbie was a decent effort!
  7. Super thread - surely there is a flip side to this, people that have sold Zeds that the forum just can't shake off...step forwards Dave (Yes I know I fall into said category also!)
  8. "Good things come to those who wait go out and work bloody hard for it" The ridiculousness of the comments on the other forum are mind boggling and bigoted. Hell lets join in with their way of looking at things, find out what car they own and label them... People Carriers are all driven by idiots who drive 1 yard off your rear bumper at any speed 4x4s are all driven by idiots who do not need an off road vehicle Small eco cars are all driven by idiots who cause traffic jams as we all wait 2 minutes for them to reach 10mph Estate cars are all driven by idiots who take up two parking spaces on roads ...and so on and so forth. They are just communists anyway by the sound of it, share the wealth, yeah that worked out well didn't it.
  9. Go drive it. I couldn't deal with the guilt if you just went for one and didn't like it!
  10. I took it as Red Head! Super car, great numbers, must be hard not to just stick your foot down regularly!
  11. My 1.4 'rocco was brilliant, great seats, nice interior, decent kit. The only mechanical problem I had was that the car developed a noise which can only be described as the sort of noise you would get if you "stuck a cartoon guinea pig under the throttle and pressed it just hard enough to make it squeak without hurting it" Apparently it is a design issue and you have to listen deliberately to hear it but by all accounts on the forum lots of owners experienced it. Otherwise quick car for a 1.4 litre, decent mpg if driven easy as well. You could always stick a sneaky map on it if you are feeling naughty and want some more horses...although the response is pretty sharp as is. In terms of mechanical issues, all cars have them, the ones on the 'rocco are relatively minor in comparison to lots of other cars from what I saw when I checked.
  12. My mac fell over like this a couple of years back, I think it was a similar thing where it couldn't boot up. I took it to a local computer repair store and they took out the old drive, stuck a shell and USB connector on it and put in a new hard disc for me - I did have a time machine back up but also could recover files from the old disc drive that were not on the time machine.
  13. Oh dear! Lesson learned! Don't listen to Steve!
  14. In terms of cost, I always notice people service their cars regularly and keep changing over Iridium plugs, they are pricey and the only benefit of them over copper plugs is the lifespan - if you are servicing regularly save yourself a fair chunk of cash and get coppers.
  15. I had the same problem, googled it and found a few solutions that sorted it...its not the end!
  16. Hmmmm two spring to mind. First year at uni, still getting acne so was prescribed minocycline I think it was called, after a few months acne cleared up but I started to get pain in my joints, they said to keep taking it as its an anti-biotic and would help with the pain. It got to the point I couldn't walk up some stairs so got a second opinion, turned out it was slowly poisoning me and would have killed me had I carried on just a few more weeks with it as I had an adverse reaction to it. I nearly went and killed the bloody doc who said to keep taking it once I got better - took about 6 months to properly be able to do exercise again. Other one was playing footy when I was living in France a few years back, five a side with the boards being a chicken fence style arrangement. Anyway a guy bashed me into the fence as I was running past him and my little finger and next finger along got caught in the fence and took the whole weight of my body momentum - I fell down and looked at my hand to see both fingers bent back with the nails touching the top of my wrist, purely as a reaction I just grabbed them both and snapped them back - I don't remember screaming but it was one of the most painful things ever, and it was self inflicted, anyway five fractures down my two fingers thanks to that one and never got any pain killers for over two hours waiting to get sorted out at the hospital.
  17. Discounted cash price off the forecourt? Never seen an ad worded like that on AT?
  18. Bottom one looks like the lorry behind just shunted the car under the one in front - horrific!
  19. Depends what your priorities are when buying a car mate - yes BMW on paper looks great, but do you want to be one of another million owners of the same looking car? For me I tend to lend weight to uniqueness as an important factor when choosing a car, I had this debate with Dan that yes on paper it doesnt perform as well but I dont want to disappear into the legions of other people driving the same thing. My 'roco was awesome, lovely quality interior, at the time very different styling, certainly stood out - and in no way 'not' manly Regarding the 123d beemer, are we talking about the hideous long backs or the coupes? The longback series 1 beemers have to be one of the stand out ugliest cars our there and hardly manly!
  20. Had some guy in an old Peugeot 406 overtake me on the M4 the other day (just before getting to the M25 turn off) I was on the inside lane doing a steady 60 and he went outside me at about 100, undertook three other cars (admittedly all middle/outside laning) in front of me, straight back onto the outside lane over taken a few more then undertook a guy who was indicating left to get into the M25 slip lane narrowly missing him. I said to my wife where are the police when you get muppets like that driving like complete twats. 30 seconds later a police car goes roaring by and off into the distance. I pass the two cars pulled up on the hard shoulder a few minutes later with the guy being ushered out his Peugeot and shovelled into the back of the cop car someone was clearly listening to me hurrah!
  21. Good work fella, I had the same thing when a guy on a moped sitting between lanes 2 and 3 on the A3 at 50mph decided to try go between two cars in front of me and ballsed it up and came off. Stupid idiot for doing it but still he flew under the front of my car and I slammed on the brakes in the outside lane and came to a halt to see him grab the front of the car and try haul himself up. I jumped out and gave him a hand and he seemed ok, by now I was getting parped, and some guy got out his car and was swearing at me.
  22. I had a 1.4 twin charged Scirocco as a company car, super power delivery and great mpg too - more room in the back seats than you would think, boot a bit small but not a deal breaker really. Its purely subjective but I think they are one damn good looking car as well.
  23. Can you come round mine and fit one I am a complete anti-spanners man, I mean I have spanners, but may as well have no fingers and two left hands given the skill I attempt to brandish them with! I just plugged it in, had the 5 steps of instructions about switching on the ignition, pressing the throttle down all the way, back up etc and it was done. Took a few minutes max even for a wally like me!
