Put some sawdust in with the oil change, that will stop it leaking
-
Mine did, when it went, I remember going up a hill to overtake, revs went up and then fell back as I slowly gained speed - wasnt spinning the wheels at all. Could be wrong though!
-
Sounds like the clutch, stick it on an incline and put it in third and floor it see what happens...if the revs go up and drop back and you dont make rapid progress then clutch is slipping. PM one of the traders like Clarks or similar who can sort out a replacement (and be prepared for a bit of open wallet surgery!)
-
Anything else you can recommend? Its has had a full suspension replacement including fig 8s struts and springs, full caliper refurb, braided brake lines, all belts changed, rotor arm and dizzy cap, full silicone hose change, new exhaust, HKS dump valve, HID headlamps, new battery, water pump, thermo, ARB links. So he has done a fair bit of work...whiteline sway bar on the back I think as you mentioned, anything else a good must have?

Who knows, its got 64k on the clock in miles but in terms of condition is very clean - so maybe I will keep it a bit longer!

Well, since I sold the Skyline last November was at a loss at what to get next, nearly got an R34 GTT which was going cheap on the Skyline forum but couldnt quite bargain the guy down. Spent a fair while looking on the 300zx forum, wanted a Targa if I was going to get one (ruling out Lexx's machine - sorry mate - thanks for all the advice though!) but looked at a succession of horrifically rusting cars with terrible mods to them. Almost imported one, but suddenly this popped up for sale about 45 mins away from me so thought I might take a look. Car is stunning, not a hint of rust, super clean bodywork, engine purrs. Owned by a car collecter who was selling it because his wife said 8 cars was enough, he has just bought an Escort Cossie in from Dubai and was spending all his time getting the sand out of it so didnt have time to keep working on this and it was parked in his lock up behind two 911s so wasnt getting used. I made a cheeky bid and he took it, picked it up this morning Very different experience to my cars that came before it (but thats the point I guess) with the 4WD I dont feel I am being shoved along the road like the RWDs that came before it but it picks up speed at an alarming rate you have to keep an eye on the speedo to stay legal. Have to say really like the seating position, I think Will might have difficulty as my head almost touches the roof but the driving position makes for a really sporty feel and experience, nice short shifting gears and rapid low gear progress. Some photos from the advert below, once I give her a proper clean and wax will take some of my own, but heres to another car ownership experience PS, aware that the looks are somewhat marmite but with the subtle body mods it works for me...imagine for a few it might not lol I *think* I will put some Teins on it to drop it about an inch, plus some sway bars by all accounts these really get a lot of benefit from, but otherwise just going to drive it for now

Darren-B's 1971 240z Project Pumpkin Major UPDATE P48

Good work Daz, keep the updates coming even if you are busy! -
I got into photography when I was living in Japan and bought a Canon 350D (which I still use) fortunately all the accessories there are about 1/3rd the price here so could splash out on various things without hitting the wallet too much. I got: DSLR! Bought 3 extra lenses, a standard one, zoom and a macro lens (which is brilliant fun) Loads of filters as they are relatively inexpensive - I really like the polarizing filter which is great for your outdoor shots Tripod Extra bolt on grip Get all the kit, read up the basics on how to utilise it then go experiment

"A Class Owners Club" - sounds like a drugs ring if you ask me

Hasnt he rubbed out the surname though with some very high tech photoshop skills?

Darren-B's 1971 240z Project Pumpkin Major UPDATE P48

Good work as always fella - so cannot wait to see this on the road! -
Loved it, good ending too. The missus blubbed.
-
I do keep looking at VXs again - but it would have to be a third car for me, it really was a tad too uncomfortable in the winter!
-
The missus says she really likes Renault Scenic's...

What's the manliest thing you did over the easter weekend?

Cooked a BBQ for 20 people 10/10 -
Yes fuel is good thanks to the light weight - although mine was just an NA 150bhp it still did about 35mpg. I went for a drive around Kent with Darren B when I had it and there was some 'economy envy' when I said I had used about £15 worth of petrol
-
Its a Cat D - been offered a princely sum to have it scrapped so looks like its off to Ford Heaven...thought about buying it back but its on 96k miles and a few niggles I foresee just around the corner to fix so going to let her go
-
I was going to say Commander that £20k you won I am sure helps ! Up and down really, I get a bonus every April (just got this year one ) but then end up spending it each year usually on a car but that can be recouped with a sale so only out of pocket on running costs. I dont really have a steady level of cash in the bank. We have invested money on the side, the property in north London we own (which is so close to completion on sale touch wood!) will have sold for double what it was bought for 10 years ago. But that no doubt will be invested in more property despite me wanting to buy a brand new GTR
-
I have seen people doing the same thing in Corsa 1.2s - its usually the driver rather than the car at fault!

As above the 350gt (skyline) is a good option, mostly autos though. I have had my toddler in the back of my old R33, it was a pretty outstanding car and every bit as good as my Zed but 4 seats and a decent boot. And the back end, well its iconic and as far as I am concerned one of the best looking rears I will ever see on a car! But hey its all opinion right. Came across this one the other day, looks very clean and nicely modded http://www.windmillautosltd.co.uk/used-cars/nissan-skyline-sandy-201503252049044 5zigen exhaust and Enkei wheels There is a lot of myth and fear around imports but a lot of it is misguided, mostly by people that don't know any better. Just do your homework, check the history on the car, give it a good look over in terms of condition and generally you are in safe hands with a good car. Insurance wise, there is little in it nowadays especially if you go with a specialist insurer rather than your bog standard Admiral policy.

This, I would really be looking to ensure you know the engine is a write off first! You could be looking at a bill a quarter that with no stress of worrying about buying a used engine if its something repairable - I dont think 'the engine is on its way out' is a very good diagnosis to be making a decision worth £2500 on...

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even if it is wrong

Sounds like you are changing for the sake of change, I kind of did with mine, similar spec list and just decided as my first proper sports car I had gotten that modding bug out of my system and was ready to move on. You think at the time how can you follow that but you can, and some. Think of it more of wanting another experience, as someone mentioned 4WD vs Fastback vs Go Cart (VX220!) vs etc. Each have their own characteristics and many stand out as much as the Zed. The R32 GTR is a good shout, all Skyline prices are on the up at the moment. I keep my eye on them in the classifieds in case another one comes up I like but generally the GTRs are climbing in price quickly, you cant even get a half decent R33 GTR for less than £9k now they were knocking around at £7k a year ago. The R32 will be a classic soon although for me the looks are very marmite.
