I didnt see the fight but I thought the marketing guys did a great job of making something out of two blokes the wrong side of 35 and probably past their best having a fight just a few years too late...didnt sound an exceptionally exciting affair unless you are someone who appreciates the technical skills of defensive boxing.

This. Its not a lot, you get a 'feeling' that the car is quicker and more responsive but hey placebo and all that. It's not really a placebo effect when you compare the two graphs, what you'll find that although you gain 10-20bhp peak figures at the top end the gains in the mid range and low down is what makes it feel quicker and more responsive. I tend to ignore peak figures and to be honest I am not sure why tuners seem to have them printed out on dynos and make a point of highlighting them (well I do, its a great way to justify the outlay) but peak gains on their own mean very little - you wont be driving with 15-20 bhp gain at all times, thats what I mean by the placebo effect - people see their one max gain figure and 'believe' they have that on tap which they dont. The more usefulinformation is average gain over the whole graph (why is this never shown if you have all the points on the chart its an easy calculation) was more like 5bhp (well it was on mine anyway) - so yes you get 15bhp say at 5800rpm but how often do you spend time driving in that range? Gains around the 2000-3000rpm mark are whats important for day to day driving and are usually around the 5-10bhp mark and to be honest on a car starting out around 260-280 its not something you will notice - it does smoothen the power delivery though.

Boss of the building company came around the other night, said he would pay in full, in cash direct to my bank account - so just a case of getting it over to TGM now for its repair. In other news, I jumped in the car yesterday at 8:50am to go view a replacement for the dead Focus (which we bought, lovely blue megane) and this morning found one of my lovely neighbours had left a note on my car "You migth have a lovely and beautiful car but warming it up at 8AM ON A SATURDAY is not very nice, do not do it again" So I wrote another note, left it on my car for them to find today "I wasn't warming it up, I live at [insert address here], if you would like an adult conversation about it please come and knock today" Lets see what happens...
-
Yeah sitting on the moby and ignoring a customer, regardless of the situ is not good, he should have been all over that situation and ready to jump when you wanted him to. A good salesman should never let a customer wander off without realising what was going on, if you have felt hard done by, regardless of the who what why when etc, then that is not a good result for them. But dont give up yet, give it another go and see if it was a one off and take it from there. Dont let emotion get in the way of good business!

Why should people not have a view? If you dont attend a football match does that mean you cannot comment on the game? I have heard this a few times, and its just wrong, why can someone not have a view just because they didnt vote? Plenty of people give a view on my cars I buy but none of them have actually owned one? I just find this idea that you 'gotta be in it to have a view' just a bit odd.

Sorry, an actual dyno run is about £40ish, for an hour of tuning and diagnostics then £90+
-
I think its been argued already that Matt, what do they charge, £40 an hour on the dyno or something? I dont think the argument is whether the uprev licence is worth the money, its whether adding 5% onto your bhp count is worth £350+ isnt it? And even then you usually have to have spent a sizeable lump on exhaust, breathing, spacer etc.
-
A business person should be the chancellor, a leader needs to run the country in my opinion - not very often you see a good combination of both.
-
So with a map from you what sort of gains are we looking at on average? 10-20bhp This. Its not a lot, you get a 'feeling' that the car is quicker and more responsive but hey placebo and all that. Most of us slapped on an exhaust etc to make the car sound better, the uprev is a nice icing on the cake, as discussed in another thread though is it actually worth it? Well its up to the individual to decide whether £350+ is worth the extra 5% power you get on average. Tuning NAs is not a cheap thing to do for the return you get.

I think the side stripe suits it

V6 conversion, do it!

Assuming good businessmen are the answer (shouldnt it be business person?) is just ridiculous. Being a leader is not the same as running a business, Cameron is an idiot is he, yet he is prime minister, idiots generally do not make it there. Does Cameron sit there on his own with a list of things he has to say yes or no to? Of course not, in fact many decisions are made probably without him knowing anything more than a ten minute top line - things like war on other countries, are not taken likely and although the prime minister at the time is the figurehead there will be many people behind the scenes pulling the strings. You only have to look at the nature of politics as to how it can make people look idiotic, they have to support their own party line, they cannot be seen to be making bad decisions, they cannot admit to making bad decisions, they must always find fault in all opposition points of view that contradict their own - this isnt normal behaviour in most debate you or I might have where we agree and compromise etc. They are not idiots at all, they cant be if they have climbed to where they are. Are they the best businesspeople in the world, no not that either as Dan said, the best businessmen are off earning £1m+ a year running their own business. Do good businessmen make good public leaders, thats not a given either, you only have to look at Ed Millibands dithering on TV to see how it negatively impacts his perception by the public. Clearly Ed is not an idiot and could run a successful business, but in front of the camera he doesnt come across as a good leader. Is the country all about business, I dont think it is, there are softer policies to look after too which impact public opinion, from a business perspective they make no sense but they are must haves.
-
I think Kev has a point though, basic politics and the impact of big decisions is so lost on the majority of the UK. When I lived in France they were very political and very capable of talking in depth about the main issues affecting the country - most people in the UK think that over half the country is now made up of muslims, that all our financial woes are based on some people living here illegally and have no idea what the left vs the right actually means.
-
Surely 'people died' not to force people to vote, but for people to have control over their own decisions and to decide if they want to vote, they can. A non vote is a wasted vote, but the only impact is that person has no say in who ultimately wins so they lose out. Although our system of voting means votes are wasted anyway, vote Tory in Scotland for instance?

That makes sense but it has to work both ways, we ship out the freeloaders who are born here who refuse to work and never work who also make up much more of the benefits claimants than immigrants. Other countries in the EU take more immigrants than us, we get fed a load of stuff about them all making a beeline for us, but the numbers show Germany take many more than we do. But yes leaving the EU right now is daft, we would be very alone on our little island in the global economy!
-
I find UKIP quite abhorrent in most of what they say, clearly there has to be a control on illegal immigration but why not have movement of people? I have been a foreigner in another country twice working and I brought some unique skills sets, it just doesn't feel to me that UKIP have that appreciation, they look at individuals and seem to want to tar many people with simple brushes. Breaking out the EU isnt a good thing in my mind, we simply weaken our global standing and forego the powers we have in the EU (which are bigger than our 'market share' anyway) - it doesnt seem a reasonable business move and hence why I wouldnt let a UKIPer anywhere near the treasury. As a few said, I have done ok in the last 5 years, made redundant twice (not due to immigration I might add) but worked hard either cleaning cars to teaching in schools until I got back into what I was doing before. So thinking that change right now is not going to be good for the economy...so guess that sticks me in the Tory camp.

Ha its quite a fun read actually - clearly exacerbating the issues we know petrol has vs electric - how about someone write a similarly tongue in cheek one the other way around "So I went to my car dealer with my savings clutched in hand, only to be told that it wasnt enough! How much I said! Thats before I even pay my levvies on top - they dont even let you keep the batteries... ...I got in my electric car and the range counter said 5 miles, no problem I thought I would just pop to my local charging point and fill up. What do you mean the closest place is 38 miles away and it takes 15 hours to fill up, this is 2015, my phone charges in 15 minutes! I finally filled up with what I thought was my free and clean electricity, but then someone kindly let me know that 40% of Swedens electricity is nuclear! I am killing the planet filling my car up, its meant to be clean! I started driving and went to change gear, but there isnt one! I just found myself sat in this quiet box turning the steering wheel, at least they let you keep that...for now! Etc!"

Good luck pal, that really is rotten luck.

I was fuming, went out and just blasted one of the Polish builders cronic - he looked a psycho with his tats and skinhead etc but must have come across as psycho myself he bricked it and ran back inside the house. Boss came out and tried to say that it wasnt their fault and was soon put in place, they are paying for everything. Can't believe it happened one day before Brighton, bloody jinxed - although calmed down a bit when I thought you know it could have been somebody's head that got 'slated' as they had no barriers out and could have done some serious damage, at least a metal bonnet can be fixed.
-
Well it was immaculate, until my neighbours builders dropped a load of slate tiles on the bonnet - off to TGM it seems - Gutted
-
I had the clutch suddenly go (also had a high pedal when I bought it) after about 4000 miles from buying mine, gutted as all the mod money I had aside had to go on probably the dullest of things in a clutch. Fortunately my dad and brother fitted it so no labour cost. I think the actual selling point of your car is how unfettered it is - apart from the exhaust (assume its the quieter one!) its in great nick, if I were writing the advert that would be my focus.
-
Would suspect a few of them on autotrader would have also had the clutch done if they have 60k miles on them. I am not sure you can command a big premium for it (even though its a stinging bill when you do get it done), the car might be easier to sell but many clutches run to 100k miles some go at 40k, maybe stick a few hundred quid on for having had it done. Looking at PH etc looks to be around 8.5k to 9.0k from a dealer, 7.5k ish from private - I would suggest in terms of what you will actually get for it knocking off say 5-10% when people make offers?

Are you after a gaitor (which is the leather sleeve at the base) or the actual handbrake handle changed? If you are changing the handbrake handle you will in most cases have to remove the leather from the handbrake - involves cutting it away and peeling it off which is a bit of a scary moment but quite easy to do - I put on a momo handbrake handle along with a leather gaitor.
