    why ????

Looking at the forecourt photo I could only imagine what it would like like to have that hideous machine wedged between the XJ220 and the Lambo!

    GT-Four

Not much time to tinker this weekend as over in South Wales for a mates 30th but managed to sneak in a little trial of some titanium bolts I want to use in the engine bay - like them actually!
  4. I don't think anyone can sensibly argue otherwise, both valid points. That's what makes high speed exhilarating though! Actually I am scared of driving fast and know I am not a great driver which is why I spend money on making my car pretty not fast
  5. Well again I can only make observations of the autobahn but I remember reading that you are twice as likely to have an accident on an autobahn vs a limited speed motorway in germany and the severity of the accident is likely to be higher with a higher % chance of fatality. This is debated regularly in Germany but nothing has been passed through. My point is that speed increases the likelihood of a catastrophic accident, and disagree that people are truly in control of the entire situation when driving at very high speed. Just my point of view.
  6. Well not really, as the environment is set up for it. There are rules in place, the speed is expected, there are crash barriers etc. Tanking along the motorway on a slight bend at 125mph then finding a car joining for the left on a slip road where the exit might be slightly obscured by trees/embankment is a whole different ball game. I get what you are saying, a really good driver could easily drive at 125mph on motorways no problem, most people are not top drawer drivers though and being self critical who am I to self-evaluate if I am good enough and that the conditions are safe enough when going at that sort of speed? Given I would be risking someone elses life on that basis? The road conditions would change every second and could change dramatically, I know I couldnt dodge a pothole at 100mph+ or an animal darting across the road etc.
  7. Why? In real terms what the difference between an empty motorway and the Kemmel straight? Except the motorway is wider, of course. This "speed kills" stuff is bullshit, inattentive driving kills people. That includes speed when the conditions arent right for it, but if it was just "speed" that killed why dont we see more casualties on trackdays? God forbid anyone tells airline pilots or train drivers as well ......... Maybe Im cut from a different cloth but I dont get this holier than though attitude to going faster than 70mph, you can be safe no matter what speed you are doing if youre aware and alert to the conditions. Anyone that thinks they are truly 'in control' of the situation when doing 125mph on public roads empty or otherwise is living in a dream world and will wake up, or not, the minute something out of their control happens and they kill someone or themselves. You are never in control whilst other variables are there, so its an empty road of three lanes you are going at 120mph and a bird hits your screen, I guarantee it wont be a hollywood movie moment where you shout 'woah' then turn on your wipers as some sort of joke - you will most likely end up on an embankment somewhere with a written off car with hopefully your life intact. 70mph is arbitary, who says its safe, I dont know. But I do know that once you are up at speeds of 125mph any incident is 99% likely to be catastrophic vs doing 50mph on the same road.
  8. Speed kills then? I would have thought so. Road conditions, car mechanical failures, other drivers, unexpected obstacles etc at higher speeds are much more likely to kill you than going slower where catastrophic incidents are more likely to occur? Me getting hit by a car at 5mph is less likely to kill me than going at 100mph - a driver is less likely to react in time - the driver reacting at 100mph to avoid me will still hit me and probably lose control of the vehicle and kill themselves.
  9. But a nice flat piece of road somewhere is still a ridiculous place to do 125mph unless its on an autobahn or a race track? But who knows, I can't claim to say 100% they were as much as no one can claim 100% they werent.
  10. No idea, you are asking the wrong person, simply referencing from here http://news.sky.com/story/1524730/two-britons-killed-in-illegal-alpine-road-race
  11. I thought I read that in another report somewhere that people witnessed the cars doing 125mph but could be making that up!
  12. Yeah saw that and quickly checked on a number of forums as I know a few people who were planning road trips! 125mph off the edge - scary stuff.
  13. You could just spend less time, checking the time? Simply check the time first thing in the morning then every hour when you get the urge, add 1 ...and presume that was tongue in cheek in terms of claiming you have 5 hours spare to do something!
  14. I am amazed that people really do buy into marketing done by companies that make you believe that it is such a hassle to take a phone out of a pocket, or remove a contactless card from a wallet. Our lives are just not THAT busy.
  15. I'm a Barclays man too, so I just set it up with my Amex instead. Again I really cannot see the advantage of using your watch over your phone, it might save a second, or two. My life is really not so busy I cant get my phone out. Or the advantage over a contactless credit/debit/Oyster card for that matter. Especially in the example of the London Underground... I just don't "get" it either. I used apple pay on the tube last weekend, it was amazeballz. BUT I'm not a London regular, so it only saved me queuing behind 300 chinese students at the ticket machine. This scenario is obviously a very limited use case However, the oyster thing is on the right, and I wear my watch on the left, so I just used my phone and thumbprint to applepay. It worked quickly and felt futuristic. If I was a London regular I wouldn't bother with an oyster card now, the phone was dead easy to use and one less thing in my wallet and never needs topping up. However, using it on my left handed watch would be a minor exercise in contortion You can just use your contactless debit card too - I go into london all the time and just use that - no extra or less hassle than using a phone.
  16. Is tattoandy going to beat me up now for saying he is potentially daft Everyone said iPhone would fail, same with iPad, but it didnt - but I can see the USP - with the watch at the moment it doesnt have that clear USP. Also interesting to see Google Glass come back up on the news today, but B2B only not consumer (sure Google Glass was meant to convert the way people live completely!)
  17. I can see that the idea is that everything can be done on one device, and I can see that having that device on your wrist rather than something that is in your pocket is more convenient - but v1 of Apple Watch is a complete waste of money as it is not device independent which is the whole point, it doesnt create convenience. Clearly Apple will rely on people daft enough to fork out to keep it going until they can make it workable, but you will always be stuck with the tiny screen so I cant see it replace the phone altogether...
  18. Again I really cannot see the advantage of using your watch over your phone, it might save a second, or two. My life is really not so busy I cant get my phone out. Amazing thing is that people are getting so excited about Apple Pay, when I was living in Japan back in 2006 I used my mobile phone all the time to GPS my way around and to pay for food/travel etc - amazing that its taken a decade for the western world to catch up.
  19. Me and some mates thought about it, most of us decided no, simply because of the excessive costs of the whole trip to end up watching Serbia vs Portugal or something. I would rather put the money towards some car bling and a proper weekend away somewhere I actually want to go!
  20. ...I stopped after 2 pages, congrats on making it that far through some utter garbage!
  21. I am not an MR2 expert by any stretch but £7 feels a bit high as the doc says. I see you are talking about putting a link to the sale ad on PM but a very quick few lines on what mods/condition puts the car at £7k? A quick scan through some for sale ads on PH puts the price range between £3 to £6.5k for a low mile fresh import from a dealer. It certainly would help in getting interest.
  22. Spent a week trying one out (we got a load in the innovation/digital team here so nicked one) and can say, even as an Apple fanboy, its not worth it in the slightest for me. Apps are painfully slow, its nothing more than a big digital watch when the phone is out of range and generally for things like calls and texts the larger screen on a phone is just quicker and easier point to point (ie the time I save not having to go through the whole process of removing my phone from my pocket vs raising my wrist to my ear etc). Clearly this is v1 and v5 will probably be a stand alone slimline watch with the phone done away with but thats when I will sink my money in, doing it now is a waste of money and you will find your watch out of date very soon with the subsequent updates (although stick it in the cupboard and wait ten years it will be worth something).
