http://www.350z-uk.c...ed/page__st__20 Well not really, Jap cars are well known amongst people in the know to have varying levels of power out the factory - R35s are famous for it many coming in with much more power as standard than the paper value. TBF also, quite why people come on here, ask opinion, then just tell them to prove it is quite beyond me. Just take the advice, if you feel like responding fine but this is advice based on personal experience as well as the advice passed to them by professional tuners. The advice has been given, I don't get asked to prove everything I say day to day in life, I don't think people need to here either, it's up to you to take it or leave it or as you say go away do it yourself and blow everyone out of the water with your new superior knowledge.

Check for the underseal as mentioned, but be aware to look for a bill to show it undersealed at import not done to cover rust after being here for some time. If it came through a respectable import company the speedo should be converted so all running in miles, the speed limiter can be removed via uprev but if you have no plans to track it then its irrelevant really. You need the fog light on the back, often importers just chuck on an ugly square one that hangs from the bumper which people take off once its through the IVA but be aware its an MoT fail. But really for Zed specific, check all the spec, there were multitudes of options in Japan whereas you have GT or Non GT here. There are lots of myths around imports, lots of them false, on my second import car now and both have been fantastic, in great condition and well looked after.

AFAIK not being an expert but running lower RON on older Zeds will cause longer term damage via knock/detonation but newer Zeds have knock control and can retard the timing - Mark at Abbey once showed me a destroyed zed engine that ran for too long on 95 - ultimately though you will not get the best performance or MPG out of the car mapped to higher RON and running it on 95, you wont save all the difference at the pump as your mpg will likely reduce. I always find scrimping on fuel confusing, buying a heavy car with a V6 mapped to 97 RON means a sizable outlay in fuel, the mindset should be that you are putting in 97 at the pump.

I know, it was just light hearted humour.

Now if the Italians were leading the charge it really would be serious What was the old joke, ahh yes it was something about Italian tanks in WW2 having one forward gear and five reverse gears. Wasn't it along the lines that when the RAF sold off the Harrier jump jets the Italians snapped them up as they were the only planes they could buy that flew backwards?

I know it sounds harsh, but the military are not going to use a £100,000 bomb to kill 8 IS grunts on the ground. Airstrikes are for high value targets, or strategic targets - which is why to actually wipe IS out you will need boots on the ground. But airstrikes are devastating at wrecking key infrastructure, communications and the like and are severely debilitating to any military force. Ultimately, the idea that NOT attacking IS in their homeland will make us safer is simply not true. I also don't buy into the whole idea that if we don't take part we don't get bombed but its alright for other countries to take the hit whilst trying to rid the planet of these fanatics, that is wrong.

Happy birthday Dan, no puns needed this year in the messages, you must be tired of that...

You should listen to Hilary Benns speech, it is very well thought through and very well delivered. Airstrikes do not solve the problem, but they do make a difference. IS were knock on the door of Baghdad this time last year, now they are being pushed back and cities reclaimed. Bombing major revenue and arms stashes will make a difference - if someone dropped bombs on the houses of parliament, downing street, MI5 building etc it would make a difference. Its not about killing IS people on the ground, its about destroying infrastructure and the capability to operate at the level they are now. IS will claim that Frances involvement in bombing prompted the Paris attack, that is nonsense, all major European cities are targets whether they are involved or not - IS by definition hold every western civilization and democracy in contempt, and we must be wiped out, there are no 'conversations' to be had, if their leadership waver from this stand point their supporters who are fanatical Islam will not stand for it, they bought into the idea of wiping out the western worlds ideology. Killing people who are gay by throwing them off the roof of a hotel. Public beheadings and dead bodies hung from lamp posts. None of this is coming from reasoned leadership or a an ideology that should be present in this day and age. Its such a shame that Islam as a religion is being brought to the fore as the problem by the trash media in this country, these are fanatics who wave the religious flag as a way of justifying what they do - its a shame that genuine peaceful people who follow the same religion are in some way tarnished because of this. As for Assad, there is no way he can win, he cannot wipe out half his own people and declare that he has "won" - clearly if the west get involved there will be an agenda for an election ultimately. The combination of IS and the rebels would have beaten Assads forces by now...I imagine there are repercussions of that...

Scary Scary! Anyone bought a car from S Ireland and imported to UK
coldel replied to Flex's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I had a quick nose on a japan auction site and there are a few R33GTR VSpecs on there, one with just 34k KM's on it. If its a keeper, wait that 3 months extra and get it via an import company which will give you some guarantees over a quick buy in Ireland which might cause you problems - I am not sure why your friend would say a compression test is worthless as it would indicate the car has internal issues and be running down on power, be interested to hear a view on this, as most of the collected Skyline knowledge on the forum were keen to get me to at least do that test or chuck it on some rollers for a dyno run. -
Indeed, and why the Aerial Atom annihilated everything else - tiny track no half mile straights etc.

There are a number of tests, you can do a leak down test but you can at least cover yourself in as many areas as possible - plenty of would be buyers of R33s have reported compression issues on cars, its not as uncommon as you think and if there is a compression issue then you would not be paying the full rate for the car - it certainly gives you a great bargaining tool if it picks something up and you still want the car. -

A bargain could be had here if it is in good shape - would definitely give yourself plenty time to check the car over. You can buy compression checking kits from a trader on one of the Skyline forums for about £20, worth the investment if there is no garage over there that can do it for you. I think if you are looking to buy a keeper get an issue free one from the start. Ownership of performance cars in Ireland I have heard is very expensive, and they know the market for buyers is multiples higher in the UK so I wouldnt make it an easy sale for the guy, I would swallow the air fare if the car is not straight and come back empty handed. -
Happy birthday old boy!

Assume you have checked out all the forums? What history does it have? Compression tested? -

Uber rare car, with the way prices are going on R33s if you are getting a good price on this you would make your tax payments back in a year. -

What are you importing? There are different rules if its manufactured in Europe vs Asia etc as far as I can remember...sure a quick google will answer all your questions -

Yes, and as Ireland is outside the UK it applies - so any of the duties you would typically pay on an import (look up GT Torque or other import sites for a list) -

Sure you do not have to pay import tax on it? Just like any import car to the UK? You would then need to get it registered and go through the IVA? If it was sold new in Ireland and had not been registered in the UK before then you are due import duty. -
Yes, £250 for my Polo, £900 to insure it!

VW Polo longback something like this in lovely burgundy...(dont have actual photo) Paid £250 for it in 1993

I think ownership of a 350z and having Alex up the road is probably the most ideal situation for any zed owner - I am astonished quite frankly that you didn't take up that offer to have a single person so hugely experienced with more knowledge of these cars than the sum total of the dealership staff ever, in total, over all the years they existed. As above, do not sit back and hope that a company that has its own interests at heart rather than yours (both Nissan and the dealership) are suddenly going to sort this out and pay you a wad of money back - its up to you to take action and take control of the situation again.

In that case, I've no idea if and when ethanol is added at Stanlow. All refined gasoline will have to be approved by the lab before it leaves Stanlow. This is fairly straightforward if you are only supplying for one customer but if you are supplying 5 or 6 customers with different specifications it means extra storage, extra lab technicians and higher costs. It was industry standard when I worked there for U.K refineries to distribute exactly the same stuff to different petrol stations, it may have changed but I somehow doubt it. Pete Yeah, I'd like to see evidence of more ethanol. Like you say, if you want a specific recipe, the price goes up. There's no logic in Tesco asking for Shell petrol...with added anything, let alone ethanol. http://lmgtfy.com/?q...omentum ethanol Actually googling it brings up plenty of debate on forums from people citing 'their mate' who may or may not be an expert in the field, but no hard facts that I saw.

If you re going to spend a fair whack on new tyres I would spend some time researching it. Even typing in 'best tyres 350z' on google would have returned a pretty comprehensive answer than typing in the post you put up?

Ha, missed that! Was just surprised as I read down said it sounded good, never heard a bog standard Zed sound good...

I think a spec list of the car as it stands would have helped
