You are right Android is for everyone which is 100% Apple is for casuals which are 90% so they both generally meet the needs of most people

I think clarification is that in general Android are 'cheaper' rather than cheap. Its only recently that Apple brought in the cheaper version of its phone, which is still probably more expensive than 50% of all Android phones.

I tend to skip a number of generations, so went from a 4s to a 6 to a 7 Plus. You do tend to notice the changes when doing that.

Appreciate war and peace Fox, but admit i skim read it. But as I said, most people I know using both iOS and Android do not use the functionality you outlined as the reason for buying Android over iOS. I am not saying you are a fanboy, and neither am I, but Apple works 100% for my needs and I like their system, Android is cheaper (which is shown in tonnes of industry research to be the main factor for purchase of Android over Apple because people want value for money and ability to use all the functions outlined in the survey results I attached above) - until there is a functionality/feature that Android has, that I think is invaluable (and I represent a broad consumer group in terms of my usage of a mobile) that Apple cannot provide why swap.

Samsung are as nasty a corporate (if such a thing exists - all companies generally are in it for the money and the more they get the better) - so I don't really buy into that argument. They are not some fluffy lovely ethical company. In terms of features, as discussed I miss none of what you find as a deal breaker because I sit in that group that has no need for those features, which is much larger than the one you sit in - and in my view its not about the ecosystem/open source that drives everyone to Android, its fundamentally the price. A quick google shows for instance a chart on what people use phones for (OK its Germany but sure the trend is similar across the UK) - everything in that list is easily done on both Android and iOS, music aside where you are tied into iTunes.

iPhone worked because no one else was close to the vision they had at the time, which is why it worked and where it is now. So of course repeating this in a market where established norms have changed it wont succeed, but that doesn't make it a bad idea (because at the time they effectively destroyed Nokia the market leader). I actually see it as Android not performing as well as Apple, its outrageous that with all its restrictions that 1 in 5 phones is from a single company, whereas 3 in 5 are from a cartel of some of the biggest tech companies in the world who cannot charge as much as Apple and cannot convert such a large base of users of what is clearly a restricted device. The Android cartel if you like should have wiped Apple out by now if all those restrictions are so important to day to day use. You could hypothesis that its only price restricting Apple from taking more market share...if they priced in line with Android phones you would see a shift (who knows what without some pricing research on the subject to hand)

I can see if you are installing random apps why you would avoid banking on your phone - I do bank on my phone I rarely do it on my laptop anymore. I can't say I have met anyone though who has an Android phone who showed me an app and left me without a viable alternative on the Apple store. I think you probably sit in a group of about 10% of users of mobile who are much higher end than the rest of us - there was a survey last year which checked in on general population usage of mobile, and something like 80% of people used less than 20% of the capability of a mobile (the old 80/20 rule once again).

I think it is a techie thing, non of the reasons in that first paragraph except maybe the storage issue - i ran out of space on my 16gb 4s but since then just get 128gb and all is well. Otherwise none of that is relevant really for me. I think as you say, if you are a techie and love to customise and link things together to enhance your digital wellbeing by x% then Android all the way.

I have both - an Android and iOS as a work and personal phone, my Android sits mostly uncharged in my work bag and a fair number of work colleagues use my iPhone number to get me - I just cannot get on with Android either. But each to their own as you say.

Phones I find are suited to your digital environment - if you got a mac at home, apple tv etc then iPhone all the way. I don't think size is an issue at all, I moved to a 7 Plus and actually now when someone passes me a 5 its just tiny and very fiddly to use effectively. I have found since switching to the larger screen I am using my laptop less as I move my digital interactions on to the mobile. Ultimately though iOS and Android are pretty much on par with each other for what 90% of people use them for i.e. taking photos/videos, internet usage, calls, messaging, games and apps.

Aye with TT350s issue, clearly an administration problem but AF could have handled the outcome better. That said plenty of other companies that balls things up as well (SKY for instance were awful at ringing me back but could have been a one off couple of days where they were busy). The funny thing is you see it every year, someone gets a higher quote, goes somewhere else, its much cheaper and that new insurer is heaped praise on whilst the old one is lambasted. Then, one year on, same thing happens and the wonderful insurer of last year is now a terrible insurer and the next insurer is a life saver, skip forward another year and...

Try logging into the site via a browser on your phone you should be able to add video that way. I would test battery first, tried turning on your headlights with the engine off? Do they come on brightly or really dim/not at all?

Not really - you go, but then they bring someone else in instead. Either all insurance companies all offer the lowest rates and everyone stays with them. Or they do as they do and some stay and pay more, the others switch and pay the lowest rate. Its makes complete sense as far as I can see. There is a phrase in business negotiations termed 'race to the bottom' and its well known any business, or industry, that goes that way ultimately means bad news for all involved from a business perspective. All that said, its a pain in the backside - the fact that lots of companies deliberately withhold the ability to do it all online so make you call so that you simply repeat exactly what you sent on the email is mind numbing.

Remember lots of these companies are just the brokers, they do just have a list of insurance suppliers...

I am with Adrian Flux and they smashed the quotes other providers were offering, even when I challenged my current provider. It is part and parcel nowadays, think about it, if insurers just offered their absolute best deals they would ultimately be out of pocket - with the renewals some people just stay with it regardless of the increases. And lets face it, as consumers, insurance is hardly a place we would be 'loyal' - its not that sort of industry, people in general want the best deal - which is ultimately why as an insurance company I would imagine they have the business model they do.

Ours will be coming around soon - we chose RAC last year with home start and paying monthly got them down to something like £150 a year covering both my wife and I in any car. I did use the AA for a one week cover when I went to Scotland, having used both the RAC and the AA have to say the AA's mobile app is light years ahead of the RAC app which generally is nothing more than an information display of their website, the AA app allowed you to personalise it and request rescue all via the app without actually having to ring anyone.
