  1. Calling out company names without any knowledge of why things happen doesnt really support your argument ( I dont know maybe you do?) I worked for a consumer research company that was the preferred supplier of insight when Nokia fell from grace and I know exactly why they did (because they flat out ignored our recommendations to follow this new touch screen phone made by Apple at the time). That is not happening with the major car manufacturers, as you keenly throw up onto the forum every time one opens a new department to develop EVs or release details of the next EV car by Jaguar or the like. So your comparison is not really valid although can see what you are trying to get at, same for Kodak (I worked in Japan with the ex head of development at Kodak who told a similar story of frustrating ignorance by the board - although Kodak still employs thousands of people driving $2bn revenue streams apparently). Many companies do NOT have to innovate, I presume you know what an M&A team does? Look at one of the biggest companies in the world in WPP, their strategy is not to innovate, simply to purchase innovations that have measured success and create a huge group pf profitable businesses. I wouldn't be surprised if the MD of VW is sitting there waiting to add Tesla to their portfolio when the time comes
  2. Money makes the world go round. What if VW walks up to the tesla suppliers or employees and offers bigger money? I find it very difficult to imagine tesla being able to prevent reproduction of its own tech and large firms setting up to supply them what they need, and I would think they have the intelligence to know what is required.
  3. The cost of current diesel/petrol vs Tesla is not the issue, its when Jag etc make mass market EV cars same price or even higher than Tesla, plenty of the market will move into Jag or otherwise rather than Tesla. So although Tesla have a free run at it now, in future I would suspect they will drop way down the list Happens in so many markets where you get start ups doing the leg work and then the big companies replicate and take over.
  4. I wouldn't get too carried away Elon at the moment Tesla only really offer mainstream EV cars in prices that some people can afford (or borrow heavily to have) as soon as all the mainstream boys decide the market is worth entering they will throw huge sums at developing rivals which will snatch a fair bit of market share off Tesla. If the car market is anything its brand snobbery, people will certainly go for a Jag EV equivalent to say a model S I would have thought, even if its not as good.

  7. Tapatalk no longer supported since we upgraded the forum. It is littered with weaknesses that allow malicious attacks so have taken the decision not to allow it access. The mobile version of this site is very good, put it in your mobile browser and enjoy...

I have seen Zeds without the turnbuckles on them (maybe try Humpys old 350?) - the holes you need drilled are small and can easily be repaired I would have thought if you want to take it back to stock.
  11. My personal view is that you are not going to make the most of your traders fee if you post infrequently - there is a lot of feedback on this thread which follows a consistent theme 'we want to see what you do' if you don't follow that then of course thats your prerogative but I guess if you ask the question and potential customers give you feedback, its usually a good idea to react to what customers want. More specifically for your line of work, if you can retrim a car seat in a Toyota to a great standard most people will take that as enough evidence you can do it on a zed, especially when we all know what a trained skill it is.
  12. Alfie had to get his photo with it!
  13. It does look like it has a uniform 'lip' around the edge?
  14. Neither am I an expert but doesn't look right to me? I just got some discs and pads for my Celica and the discs were spot on and had a much better finish?
  15. With population growth going unabated, as Dan said the idea that status quo in terms of transport will still exist in 25+ years but with electric engines instead of petrol is hard to believe. I can imagine a move to one car ownership, even then will be highly expensive, wider transport networks, the charge to drive in major towns and cities enforced across the country (don't kid yourself that this is a clean air charge as they call it right now) and so on and so forth. As I see it the development of this tech in itself is exciting utilising more renewable energy and driving down the cost, that said the experience of driving is right here and right now and we are all so super lucky to be catching the tail end of it where you can hear, feel and experience a car making amazing sounds and be able to tinker with every part of it just by lifting the hood and getting a socket set out - in 2040 we will be surrounded by silent linear transportation modes. For me anyway, now is the super exciting time make the most of it and if you want to ensure a comfortable retirement stick an R34 GTR in the garage and cover her up for 25 years
  16. Have a good look through the traders section on the forum - a really comprehensive list of stuff you could get from performance upgrades to bodywork to interior work. Also have a browse through the project threads, people on here do get very creative with mods and you will pick up some great ideas...
  17. It is a clunky gear box (certainly compared to other cars I have driven) but do not worry too much about that, syncros are prone on the gearboxes but otherwise its a meaty monster that should see you good.
  18. Hold back on the in car entertainment stuff too - a few times a year [insert various car audio websites here] have big blow out sales and you can get great deals, I got my touch screen JVC with BT etc for £130.
  19. Your W Brace (assuming you mean the one underneath) can be replaced by aftermarket item for less than £200 Clutches last as long as you let them last, some people have reported 100k clutches others reporting them gone in 30k - depends on how nicely they have been treated in the past. Dont replace it just because its got 40k on the clock.
  20. By all accounts the wax's/polishes for different colours is a bit of clever marketing (much like targeted pain relief ibuprofen) - if I were you have a nose through Illogikals test thread where he talks about testing loads of different products.
  21. We just moved up to a 32 inch TV from a 28 inch TV this year for our living room On a more serious note, we bough a Samsung, and I found the internet connection on it to be very hit and miss. Disconnects randomly and has to be reset periodically which is annoying typing in passwords via a remote. I googled it and apparently the software on our Samsung has hundreds of reports of this problem which Samsung will not rectify. Sure yours is running something else given the price, but worth doing a quick check on with a google search first.
