New girl! Starting my hunt for a 350z.

Welcome! -
I looked into different air filters and for my 313 the consensus was that the stock Nissan one or the Cosworth ones were pretty much the best you could get. I replaced them with Cosworth ones when I had a service and didnt notice any difference. Unfortunately mine was the 313 model, so had 2 air boxes and double the cost.

Spotted this morning about 10am heading out of Cambridge on Huntingdon Road. ** 07 UJJ Black 07 coupe. Looks like it needs a good wash!

"old out yer and my son, youve just bot ye`self, some brakepads!" Judging by Mike Brewers negotiation skills on Wheeler Dealers this could be a good place to go. He`ll probably quote you £100, you offer him £20 and he`ll shake your hand on the deal whilst commenting that your "hot to trot".

Another vote for an impreza from me. A mate of mine got one, on the road with 320bhp and sorted suspension for less than 2 grand about 4 years ago! So, they must be even cheaper now!

Thats what I assumed, most cars have this these days.

I bet he has a girlfriend...... not!

Think we need a photo of this!

My Local Nissan Dealer - Brilliant at knowing nothing!

Amazing. Surely the guy should know that its basically the same oil filter as the nissan micra & nissan navara etc... all use! In my experience Parts Managers seem to be one extreme or another. Sometimes they know exactly what you want and where to find it, other times they have no idea what day of the week it is! -
Where did you get that info from? I can't see the rev-up weighing 90kg (~6%) more than the non? My350z website, that weight is over the entire car, not just the engine, sorry, badly worded on my behalf! Im pretty sure all the zeds weigh roughly the same, regardless of which year. The only ones which weigh a lot more are the roadsters.

Thanks mate, the wife already has one but there will be days when I have little stanners and his buggy and she will be at work in hers. Adding her to the insurance on mine was not an option as she knows I would be out inspecting it after every trip, so therefore refused to drive it. :-) Yep, i wouldnt let my missus near mine with a barge pole. And good point about when your looking after the kid & your missus is at work, i didnt think about that.

What he said!

Just thinking about this, can you get a set of clubs in the tardis like space where the roadster roof folds into? On my 350z roadster this space was huge!

As others have said, its the total cost of repair which will just write a vehicle off sometimes. I had a Ducati motorbike once which was written off at just 4 weeks old simply because the owner had dropped it and the frame was scratched. The rest of the bike was fine, but the labour cost involved in stripping the bike down & replacing the frame simply wrote it off. I bought it for about 1/4 of the new price and it was only a few weeks old! Some cars are the same. Ive been looking a lot at Elises and VX220`s and huge amounts of them are CAT D. Simply because one small knock and the clams get damaged and thats an instant write off as they are so expensive to replace with genuine bits. Same as the Clio V6, and many other cars. As long as its been repaired properly it should be fine, but ive seen some shocking repairs on cars in the past where garages have bodge repaired things, so id be looking for photos of before & after and full details of what was replaced or repaired.

Err... id not hand tighten a sump nut... surely it would just vibrate out! I always give it a good tighten up with a wrench, but not over doing it. Since your`ve ordered a torque wrench, id wait and use it. Like you say, better safe than sorry!

Its well reknown that garages do this. I remember going to National Tyres to have them fit some tyres id bought onto my golf one year. As i stood there watching the guy, a lorry turned up and they unloaded hundreds of brake discs & pads. Next thing i know the fitter trys to tell me my golf needed new discs & pads all round once when I had only just changed them the week before myself. You can get a full set of discs & pads for a golf on ebay for about £60. On the golf, the front pads are easy to change, ive done it more times than I can remember on golfs. You do need an allen key to undo the caliper bolts - 7mm if i remember correctly. You can actually buy a special allen key tool for doing this from a parts place. And thats it. Dont need anything else. Id expect just the pads alone to be about £15 if you are just changing them. If he really cant do them then find a local garage. My mates just been quoted £65 including parts to have the brake pads on his focus changed at a garage near him.

Brilliant! On the subject of Mr Beans premium, then baring in mind that this is the 2nd time he`s stacked the car, and they have just forked out nearly a million quid repairing it, id have thought his premium would have been a lot more than £60k as he`s clearly a bit of a high risk. In fact, if I was an insurance company id probably tell him where to go. He actually stacked it the last time just down the road from where I used to live.

I discovered this a couple of years back. I had just forked out a small fortune to have a new boiler fitted in my house & insulate the loft etc... so im chatting to a mate and he tells me he`s just had the same done + cavity wall insultation + new radiators all for free. Turns out because his missus is claiming some sort of incapacity benefit the government give them a grant to upto a certain value to improve their living conditions! So he had all this stuff fitted for free. To cap it off, he said he still had about a £1000 of the grant left and wasnt sure what else to spend it on!!!!

The HR engine is the one people recommend for FI, so it might be worth saving up a bit longer & going for one of them. I thought all manual zeds were 6 speed?

Disappointed with that breakfast. I normally have about 4 eggs, 6 slices of bacon & 4 sausages at least before attempting any work on my car! Oil change is pretty easy I found on the zed, once you get over how small the oil filter is. On mine it was on the drivers side of the engine. The most time consuming bit was getting the undertray off, there was about 18 small rusty screws holding it on. Once thats off, you can get to the drain plug easy. Id recommend running the engine for a bit to make the oil warm & thin, then it will run out easier once you get the drain plug undone. Filter is nice & easy to get to compared to most cars I work on. Put a bit of new fresh oil around the rubber seal on the oil filter before you hand tighten it onto the engine. Also, you may need a new drain plug seal if you havent got one. I never bother with a torque wrench, you just hand tighten the filter, and just do the drain plug up firmly - not force it else you`ll mess the threads up! All in all a nice easy DIY job, saving you a few quid.

How much do you miss washing your car?

I used to get about 25mpg out of mine if i took it steady. Was costing me about £500 a month!

Insurance company wont care less about it. They will just pay out. Then use it as a reason as to why insurance premiums are so high. My wife also did the same "run in back of car at roundabout" in her 206 Gti. The other car only had a scratch on it, but like with your guys, they claimed for everything possible so it had to go through insurance. My wifes insurance company jacked her premium up so much for the following year that she could no longer afford to insure her car and had to sell it and get an ancient old heap of a car which still cost twice as much as her old car did to insure.

I used mine once I think and that was it. Dont enjoy feeling like ive wet myself. Id just go for some decent aftermarket bucket seats.

I absolutely detest washing my car. Its such a pain in the back side. Takes so much time to do it properly to wash it, wax it etc... time i really havent got spare atm. Then you literally drive it 2 miles down the road and its covered in crap again.
