Id definitely speak to a few other companies. My wifes got a company car now, so when her own insurance ran out we never renewed it. I called up and spoke to the insurance company to ask how many years we could have it "on hold" and im pretty sure that particular company said 4 or 5 years. Although if its less, i`ll just insure some ancient old heap of a car for £50 a year using it just to maintain it. Its worth noting however that i dont think you actually need to even own the car you are insuring, and the car doesnt even have to be on the road. So if you know of an old moped or something in a barn, that would be ideal to insure. Surely the bet option is to just leave it insured, no? It annoyed me no end that years of bike NCB counted for nothing. No, because i need the ncb on that policy to go onto another insurance policy. As ive got maximum ncb anyway, i dont mind "loosing" 1 years ncb to switch to the other policy half way through as it makes no difference to the premium. Unfortunately the "hidden" cancellation charges cause the problem.

Excellent, I also had a 748S back in 2000 which looked the same, mine was also a 2000 model. It was actually registered in the same batch as this 996 was, so the number plate is only 1 digit different to my old Ducati`s one. Talk about co-incidence. My 748 even had the same grey wheels though & grey frame which is the colours they gave the later ones. The open clutch cover is great. I asked my missus what she thought to it when I started it up and she said "it sounds broken". Id forgotten just how many people stop & stare at it. Complete strangers will just stop walking along and stand there watching me ride past. When I was filling it up at the garage the other day, i had a guy come out of the shop & stand there for ages waiting for me to start it up & ride off. Im not sure if they are thinking "wow thats a cool bike" or "oh my god that sounds f@@ked"

Well, i already have a 220+bhp Renault 5 GT Turbo track car and 3 motorbikes including a tuned R1, but I decided it was time for something red & italian..... Its a 2000 model Ducati 996 Biposto. In the week ive had it ive just fitted new brake pads all around, new brake fluid, oil & oil filter change, fuel filter change, new cambelts, new spark plugs, done a monoposto single seat conversion and as soon as they arrive in the post i`ll be fitting new chain & sprockets. Its nowhere near as quick as my R1, but the noise it makes from the open race pipes when you crank it open is just obscene. Only problem is I need to get a bigger garage to fit all my toys in and my missus isnt happy about me having yet another bike....

Possible New Member Introduction
rabbitstew replied to RyanT's topic in Introductions & Welcome Messages
Hi and welcome! I actually started off looking at E46 M3`s. I briefly considered a Z4 and even a Boxster but dismissed them as where I live they are common as muck. I see hundreds everyday. Thats not to say they are bad cars, but i prefer to have something a little different rather than the same as everyone else. I went to a garage to look at a nice M3 and saw a 350z Roadster sitting there and immediately changed my mind about the M3 and decided to get a 350z. A bit of research and I decided that not only did I want a 350z Roadster, but I wanted the later 313 model which had more power etc. Unfortunately there were only 250 of these sold in the UK, and looking on Autotrader there were only 3 for sale within 100 miles of my house and 1 of them had just been sold. Needless to say I ended up buying one of the remaining ones. Other cars I briefly considered was RX8 - too thirsty and I wasnt sure on the styling, a 996 - again, nice car but didnt have the rarity of the 350z and the other car which came very close was the Z4M. On a rarity level it was on par with the 313 roadster, but performance was virtually the same and the Z4M cost quite a bit more then the 313 Roadster did at the time. I also actually prefered the styling of the 350z roadster over the Z4M. Either way, what ever you decide to go for, you`ll have loads of fun choosing and looking. Oh, and dont forget to check the insurance first. After getting reasonable quotes for an M3 I assumed a 350z would be similar. I was shocked to find it was nearly double the cost for me to insure! eek! -
Nice! Im in Cambridge every day so will look out for you!

If your not really using it i would sell it off. But, its the old problem of what you want vs what its actual market value is. You`ll obviously get more if you sold the bits off then sold the car, but its then the time/hassle involved in doing that. When i sold mine, i didnt bother, and just sold it as it was. I also didnt want the hassle of advertising and waiting months for a buyer, so i just part ex`d it at a dealer. If your not too fussed, id be tempted to try and sell it as it is for the price your hoping. You never know, someone out there may just snap it up as an impulse buy. Your in the good position where you dont "have" to sell it, so can take your time over it. But, remember that its dropping in value every month.

Id also advise to check all the small print. Ive just had a 45 minute argument with one of my insurance companies on the phone. Basically one of my motorbikes cost me £70 to insure back in April for a full 12 months policy. I now wish to cancel this and they charge a £50 cancellation fee and also claw back any "cash back" offers they initially gave me which the sales person didnt tell me about at the time. So, now its going to end up having cost me £120 for just 4.5 months insurance. What really kicks me in the privates is that ive been with this same company for 5 years and when it came to renew this year I could have got the same 12 months cover for £59 elsewhere but decided to stay with them as a sense of loyalty.

£1k sounds pretty good in all fairness. I got my completely standard 2007 zed when I was 39 and I had 20 years NCB, including high performance cars and motorbikes.... the cheapest I could get was £900 through Admiral and "specialist" companies like Sky & others couldnt come close. I was amazed at how expensive the zed was as bmw m3`s, porsche boxsters and the like were coming in at around the £450->£500 price mark in comparison.

Advice for replacing stock air filter with aftermarket cone one ?
rabbitstew replied to fairladyz2013's topic in 350Z General
As others have said the only advantage with a cone filter is the noise. The stock nissan ones seem to be the best you can have. -
hhahahaahaaa

Mad, the rent on the warehouse alone would have cost a few quid each month. Wonder why someone was collecting them? I can only assume maybe they were a porsche specialist or something. Although there isnt much around kings lynn apart from fields & farmers!

My wife rents out her flat and thats in negative equity. She just told the lender she wanted to lend it out as she had moved in with me and like others have said, they just charged her a fee and that was it. I guess they figure as long as the mortgage is continued to be paid they dont care. She is on her 3rd or 4th set of tennants now, and these guys have been in for 2 years or so. She finds them through friends or work colleagues. The current people are one of her work colleagues son & his gf. She actually charges them slightly lower than the market rate for the rent and so people tend to stay on a lot longer. Most people happily stay on for several years. Being a landlord isnt too bad. One set of tenants happily paid to redecorate the flat which saved us some cash at one point and made them inclined to stay longer. However, we have had expenses with replacement boiler, cooker, redecorating, plastering. Since the rent only just about covers the mortgage, all those expenses are out of our own pockets. We are just hoping that by the time we retire in like 30 years or so the flat will either have gone up in value enough to make a profit, or the mortgage will have been paid off so the rent gives us some income. Before then however, the leasehold thinggy is up for renewal and that in itself will cost us a good few grand as the guy in the shop below who owns the lease on the land can basically charge us whatever he fancies to extend it to 99years.

I had a K1 on mine for 20,000 miles. Certainly for weekend fun only it would be perfect, when you are out for a blast and want that loud exhaust to add to the experience, but as a daily commuting car like mine was, it wasnt the most ideal exhaust system. In particular I found cruising at 70mph was mega droney, but at 80 or 85 it was fine, so your`d end up cruising at higher speeds than you really wanted to. I think for the money these cost 2nd hand (circa £150 for a full cat back system) they are pretty good value.

I think these "special" VIP events are the same regardless of mark. I actually had an invite through for a BMW "event" last week. As an existing BMW customer having forked out a small fortune on a car 18 months ago, they were keen to tell me that if I was to sign up and buy another brand new car, on finance of god knows what % they would give me the amazing sum of £500 cash back in my pocket. I really cant imagine anyone rushing out to buy another £30k car on some ridiculous loan just to get £500 back.

I fitted the DS2500 pads to mine and I was very very impressed with them. They did cost about the £250 mark for full set of pads all around, which was quite funny as I did my wifes Peugeot 307 at the same time and a full set of pads for her car came in at about £25. As for fitting, id definitely just do them yourself, ive done literally hundreds of brake pads on cars over the years and the brembos are by far the easiest to change. You just need a pair of pliers. (well, once you have jacked the car up and got the wheel off).

2011 BMW 123d Coupe, a Yamaha R1 and a Ducati 996.

Depending on the year, spark plugs might be included as i think they are 60k on some models.

Must be the year for it, a lot of people i know, including myself have had rebates this year. Like you, i nearly fell off my chair, its the first time ive ever had anything back from them!
