We had the same problem. Another time after an upgrade the phone decided to duplicate all of her contacts. Ive just been reading about hundreds of people having their batteries drain in just a couple of hours after iOS8, so I wouldnt be surprised if thats the next problem she has. When apple launched the icloud it was hilarious. I came home from work and spent about 2 hours trying to work out why the internet was "down". I couldnt get on the net at all. I checked the router, tried my phone, laptop, tablet. Checked the isp`s status via my mobile internet. Then after a while I asked my wife what she was doing on her iphone and it turned out the new iOS update installed some icloud and was forcibly syncing all her photos/music into the cloud and sucking up the entire bandwidth we had! Took the entire evening for some reason so god knows what it was doing.

Im dreading my wife trying to upgrade to iOS8. Every single time her iphones have ever upgraded, its never gone smoothly and theres been no end of problems. Even when shes upgraded hardware, switching from one phone to another. Me on the other hand, i just get my new phone, log in with my email & password and all my contacts, emails, apps, music, photos all instantly appear. My wife gave me her old ipod the other year, so I tried to copy my music to it. Now on android devices you just plug it in, or switch on the kies air which lets you view the device through any web browser, then simply copy music directly to it. No problem at all. However, on her ipod that was a no no. Apple tried to force me to install itunes in order to copy music over and then I had to register that itunes to the device. The itunes download was something like 250mb. 250mb! At that point I googled and found a small 500kb program someone had written which allowed me to view the ipod via windows explorer and copy my mp3`s directly over. Much easier!

I thought this kind of summed it all up really: I for one was quite disappointed at the watch. It looks just like all the existing square smart watches. Although rather than keep it minimalistic and use the touch screen to control they have gone a step backwards and added some buttons. I do like the new LG smartwatch though which has a more traditional round face. I think the square 1970`s style smart watches are really dated now having been out for a good few years. and the round style looks much better. However, its personal preference really.

I wouldnt get too excited until you know more about exactly what you will be doing in the new position. You may end up not only doing managerial stuff, but also doing the same as you do now. So effectively they end up with you doing 2 jobs for the price of one. Ive seen that happen a few times! Happened to me once too. I remember accepting a job as a manger at one company only to then find out that they had just sacked 3 managers and effectively replaced them with just me! So I was then doing 3 jobs for 1 salary. The stress was unbelievable. At other companies, if employees say they want to be promoted, more responsibility etc. Then they simply add "senior" to their job title. Makes the employee feel that they are moving up the ladder and are now more senior, but in actual fact their job hasnt changed at all. -
What I would do is to spend a small amount of it on something I wanted, but put the rest towards the mortgage. Depending upon what mortgage you have, you maybe able to make an over payment without fees. If you are charged fees, then invest it instead until you need to remortgage again when you can use it to bring it down. Also you have to look at your mortgage rates really. Until recently I was tied in to a 7.5% mortgage, when all my mates who had variable rate ones were only on between 0.5% and 1.5%. Typical really. So anything I had spare I threw at my mortgage to try and bring the interest repayments down. Had I been on just a 0.5% mortgage I would have invested any spare cash as id probably get more than that from investing it.

Hmmm.. i didnt even mention it to the missus. Went to work one day in my 350HR Roadster, came back in a 6 month old BMW 123d coupe. Was the day before I got married too.

Career Advice - taking the leap **long post**

Wow. £47.5k @ 30 years old. Thats mental. I dont earn that and im a lot older than that and in a senior position at the company I work for. Career wise its always a tough choice to make when you have been working at a company and are established there. Do you stay where you are, doing same old things, getting decent cash and hope one day you`ll get promoted or have extra responsibility. Or do you take a risk and move elsewhere to somewhere which is the unknown. Ive had various jobs over the years and it can work both ways. Sometimes you end up working in a nightmare job and that new boss who appeared nice turns into a right git. Other times it works out really well. Its just something you dont know until you do it. Moving up the ladder can be hard. If you are doing a good job where you are now, why should your company promote you into a higher up role? If they did that they would then have to try and find someone to replace you in your current role and the chances are the new recruit might not be as good as you at it. Theres a saying "you fail upwards", and ive seen it loads of times at companies where the only people getting promoted are those who are crap at their jobs and those who are good get stuck doing the same old job. So the only option usually is to move to another company. Same with pay. In my experience ive very very seldom ever had a pay increase in any of my jobs, dispite exceeding all my objectives and working my fingers to the bone. In my current role, ive not had a pay increase in 6 years. Only time ive ever managed to get a rise was through changing companies and moving into a new job with a new salary, but even then you have to be a bit careful about things. I remember once being offered a job which had been advertised as paying 38k, but when they found out I was currently only on 25k they refused to offer me any more than 29k as they felt it would be too much of a jump in salary. If you have no management experience, how do you get a managers job. Well, a lot of companies are prepared to let you gain the experience in the role. They see it as an investment. If you already have 10 years management experience then whats to keep you stimulated and interested in the new role. What more is there for you to learn? However if you are starting off, then you have loads to learn and chances are will stay working for the company for longer. Salary wise, what you get depends upon area I guess. The programmers in my company are on about 35k a year, senior managers/directors are on about 50k and the top dog, numero uno CEO is pushing 80k. Thats in Cambridge where I thought salaries were good. Other areas are different. I know further out of Cambridge, in areas like where I live, average salaries are £25k a year. -
To be honest id probably sell the zed to fund the next car. You have to think about how much will you end up driving the zed if you buy something else. Unless you love the zed so much and can afford to keep it.

I had a look at lotus Elise prices earlier and unless I am mistake, im sure they werent that expensive last time I looked, so they may well be on the increase. VX220 Turbo prices look like they have remained pretty solid too over the last few years.
-
Same reason I wouldnt track the zed, cost of repair if I'm unlucky/my driving ability doesnt compensate for a burst of stupidity. Something light, 2 seater but still road worthy as need 2 cars. VXT ^^^^^^ what he said.

Ive had it before when ive dreamt my cars been stolen, and its been so realistic that when ive woken up ive been trying to plan what to do next, how to get to work, should I buy an old banger, what will my insurance company say etc.. as im cleaning my teeth. I then go to ring the police to report it stolen, but think id better double check outside and my cars been sitting there perfectly fine. I blame it on eating cheese before bed.....

Depends on the refresh rate. I run my media / games pc through my 50" plasma with the audio going out through my pioneer av amp with 7.1 surround and its absolutely wicked for playing games on. Unfortunately since the missus moved in she has commandered my home threatre system and watches Glee on it 24/7. Im banished to sitting in the corner of the room trying to watch wheeler dealers on a 13" laptop screen. lol, I can empathise, I have to watch wheeler dealers in the other room. She used to watch glee but now it has been superseded by House wives of Atlanta , which physically hurts me to hear or watch. Wait until she finds "True Blood". My missus managed to watch 7 entire seasons of that in the space of a couple of weeks. Im dreading the electric bill hitting my doormat.

One of the guys I worked with got rid of his because it was never out the garage for electrical issues. Would love one though! the m3's are bloody good but they're pretty common and you have to look like a thug to drive one (at least around here) My local beemer dealer has an offer on atm. £600 off if you buy a £60,000 m3 new. I had to do a double take. Do they really think someone about to drop £60k on a car will be persuaded by £600 off..??!!!? -
^^^^^ thats what i was thinking, or even apply via your own bank. Your own bank can surely see what you have going in & out and if you have been "good" for the last 2 years etc then they might give you a card with a very low limit. EDIT: The other thing to watch out for is doing too many credit checks. Each time you do a check its flagged and if you do too many it can affect your rating. My mate had exactly this when he went to buy a new motorbike on finance. He went out and bought leathers, helmet, boots, new mobile phone but then when he came to sign up for the actual motorbike it was rejected due to too many credit checks over that month. Took him a while to sort it out but he got the bike in the end.

I was once told to get a credit card (even if its only got a £100 limit), then use that for all my monthly outgoings, and keep paying it of every month. That would help build up a good credit history, which would offset any historical problems you might have had.

Yes I was prepared for getting a rotten price as I never put all the mods on to make money at the end. The trade in price will be about 15% less than what you`d get if you sold it privately for a stock car. They never factor in things like mods and a lot of optional extras etc. or even if its got new tyres on it etc. Can you not take of some of the mods and sell seperately to gain some cash. It is a pain trading a car in (unless its a knackered old one which you want to off load). When I traded my 350HR Roadster in nearly 3 years ago they gave me just £9k for it. It was totally mint, 39k on the clock, new MOT, new tyres, FSH. On top of that, it had every optional extra from new as it was an ex Nissan press car. It had the sat nav, GT pack, alezan, you name it. Didnt make any difference at all to the dealer, they just looked, saw 2007 350z roadster and thats the price. The annoying thing was, the glasses guide didnt even know what an HR was, so the prices were just for the normal 350z. Id spent all weekend detailing the car so it was immaculate, they couldnt find a mark on it. Dealer didnt even need to wash it and stuck it straight on their forecourt for £13k. But, for me whilst it meant loosing a good few grand, it was a quick no hassle sale without me having £12k of car sitting around for months waiting for someone to buy. -
Unless its a cheap socket it will. Ive done exactly this on a mates car earlier in the year. He`d lost his locking nut and had 3 bald tyres in desperate need of changing. I used a lump hammer and an impact socket. Hammered socket onto locking wheel nut, then just undid with a breaker bar. To get the socket off the nut just use a screw driver or something to drive the nut out. Then do the same on the other wheels.

Thats very true, the 135i is a bit of a bargain atm 2nd hand. Remember all the M3 bits bolt straight onto the 1 series, so a lot of guys fit M3 anti roll bars, lower front arms etc to give you more camber and even the entire rear axle - bolts straight on and gives you an LSD.

I bought one of these a few weeks back and used it last weekend to change the brake pads on my beemer, pretty impressed with it. My mega ancient old trolley jack had seen better days and just wasnt able to get under my car. The halfords one is quite a heavy solid item, worked fine for me. Loved the fact you can rotate the handle and pump away at 90 degrees to the car etc. For £25 its a bargain! I was originally going to order one from SGS as ive had other stuff from them, but for this price I couldnt justify it.
-
Agree with docwra, but then I am bias as ive a 123d coupe. Personally ive never liked the 1 series hatch and the M135i is only available as a hatch so if I was going to get one id probably go for the M235i which is the coupe version. The M135i is very good value for the performance it gives you and up against its main competitors has had some really good reviews. With the 1 series in general, I looked at a lot of cars before opting for my 123d coupe. What did it for me was the way it felt and drove - the handling, the brakes, build quality, the performance (mines a soot chucker so only does 0-60 in 6.5 seconds with its standard 204bhp), but still gives me 52mpg. Has the potential for 275bhp and more torque than an M3 with a "simple" remap if I feel the need for more. Pretty much everything about it ticked all my boxes. The only negative for me was the £32k price tag, but I was luck enough to get an ex managers 6 month old car for £25k which meant I avoided the initial depreciation. I worked out my car should loose about £2500 a year in depreciation which was about half the amount my zed lost. Servicing, has been pretty reasonable - 19k service intervals for me, first service only cost me £140 @ BMW and ive just done the 2nd myself so its been even cheaper. Ideally id love a 1M, but with 2nd hand prices now actually fetching more than the car cost new, both here in the UK and in the USA, that boat has long since gone for me.

I never understand that. We have 3 cats and they are the same, they would much rather torture a hairy spider to death then eat it than eat a bowl of their lovely expensive cat food. Its always interesting though walking down stairs half asleep this time of year as very often they will kill some massive spider then leave its body lying in the hallway, so you never really know if its dead or not. The cats usually sit there watching me laughing as I stagger half asleep down the stairs at 6am, see the spider and promptly jump about 4 foot. Haha, reminds me of that time I used my wifes car to shift about half a ton of scrap metal. I assured her no spiders were in amongst the scrap which had been left in my old dusty shed for years... Anyway, next day, she gets up early at 6am to get to work, opens her car door and its like spiderman has been going mad, cobwebs everywhere. She screams and starts ringing the door bell frantically to wake me up. I think theres a fire going on or something so stagger down the stairs and outside in just my pants to see what the emergency is. The wife is going absolutely apeshit pointing at the her car. I re-assure her its probably some little spider, so open her door and sods law, this MASSIVE spider drops out and runs off. It was so big even the cat looked worried. At this point, the wife now starts screaming even louder whilst shes jumping up & down and demands I kill the spider. As if things couldnt get worse, at that moment our neighbours come out to see what the noise is all about only to see my wife jumping up & down screaming and me on my hands and knees, crawling around the drive in my just my pants trying to find this f'ing spider. Complete madness. Not only that, the wife then refused to let me go back in the house until id hoovered her car out in case the spider had any relations in there. I can only imagine that the neighbours thought we were doing some sort of dominatrix role play or something....
