Cant comment on the sound on the 350z but my Ducati 996 has a hand made Prospeed exhaust on it, which a prevous owner had fitted some 6 years back. The quality is really good and the sound is pretty immense. It still looks good now after 6 years use.

This is old news. Been happening for a good number of years now, in particularly with bmw`s like mine. It isnt just the keyless ones, its the ones like mine where the "key" is a plastic keyring thing you slide into the dash. The thieves just buy a new key off ebay, then buy the recoding device online, plug it into your car via the obd socket and recode the new key to your car. Theres even guides on youtube of how to do it etc...

Which of your previous cars do you miss the most?

The kit is a "Corsa" kit not a Dimma, the Corsa kit had the Ferrari style side vents, the Dimma didn't, the raider was introduced to answer the 205gti 1.9 with 130hp By raising the power from the standard gt turbos 120 to 127 along with the afor mentioned blue pearl paint, wheel inserts and blue fleck in the seats. You are right on the bodykit, the Dimma one only had 2 vents in the rear 1/4 kit and the very similar Corsa kit (made by Prima Racing) had 4 vents making it more like a testarossa style. Good spot. There was also a "Skeete" kit which was pretty much the same but had no vents, a mate of mine has a Skeete 5 GTT in his garage. Your wrong on the Raider though. It definitely only had the same power & engine as the normal 5 GT turbos. There were only 2 "phases" of the 5 GTT`s. The first ones were phase 1, and had only 115bhp. They could do 0-60 in 7.2 seconds as standard (Renault did a TV advert showing in real time one doing 0-60 in 7.5 on a really wet track) compared to the 8.1 seconds of the slower Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9. In 1988 Renault revised the 5, altered the bodykit, interior, suspension, wheels, changed the turbo for a water cooled one, changed the AEI pack to increase the red line by 500rpm and these ones produced 120bhp. The "raider" didnt come out until late 89/90 on G/H plates, 5 or 6 years after the 1.9 GTi came out. Ive had 3 GTT`s and ive still got one which ive had since 1995 which is currently my project car. I also had a 205 GTi 1.9 back in the 90`s at the same time as a 5 GTT. Driving them back to back, the GTi wasnt even close performance wise and certainly no threat. Whilst it was slower and didnt handle quite as good it was still a very fun car to drive. The engine was very revvy and I remember after I added a janspeed exhaust system it sounded pretty awesome. Whilst I preferred the handling/performance of the 5GTT and the turbo kick, the GTi definitely looked better. The styling both inside & out - It felt more "modern" and much less plasticy. Any photos of your motors? I also had a phase 1 gt turbo in pearl White, a 205 1.9 gti in white, a R11 turbo in silver and an R18 turbo in silver, really enjoyed owning those cars back in the day, the performance data I quoted for the Raider was from the ownership brochure I got with the car. the raider ran 9psi not the standard 7psi (was running 30psi when I was finished with it lol) I even had it featured in a R5 turbo shootouts at brunters for "fast car mag" in May 1997 Happy days Will see if I can dig out the old mag article, no laughing at the photo though lol I probably have that issue somewhere! I remember I used to buy all the car mags if they had a Renault 5 in them back then! Stock psi on all the 5GTT`s was about 8/9psi. They were so easy to modify though that very few remained standard. You could increase the boost to about 14psi just by poking a hole in one of the actuator pipes which would give you roughly 145bhp with a few other easy bits like exhaust/airfilter/strapped intercooler etc. Got some pix of my 5 in my blog in my signature. http://www.turbonutter.co.uk I was hoping to get it back on the road this year, but family/work has meant ive had no free time. Its looking now more like it will be a winter project ready for next spring. Got photos of a lot of my old cars, will have to dig some out. -
Looks nearly as bad to fit as ford focus ones. The one on my bmw 123d took me litterally 2 minutes to do the other week. Undo 6 10mm bolts in bulk head using my 10mm socket on a cordless drill, pop old pollen filer out, pop new one in, and refit the bolts. Filter cost me £4 from amazon for a decent Mann one. BMW wanted to charge me £70 to do it.

Problem is, very often this changing is subtle and happens over long periods of time so you dont realise its happening. Its only when you sit back and suddenly realise. Also very often it happens after the couple get married so then its not as easy as telling her she`s dumped and moving on. So as soon as the ring goes on, her legs get firmly closed never to re-open, all the saucy undies are chucked in the bin to be replaced by a fleecy "onesee" and decides never to do any cleaning or cooking as she now has a slave, sorry, i mean "husband". Very often the bloke is hoping that things will change and go back to how they were, so puts up with it, then eventually it just becomes the "norm" and its only when he speaks to his mates and finds out they are being waited on hand & foot by their girlfriends/wifes then he realises its not the norm and he`s now stuck.

Id be very wary of just any old garage who probably has never even seen a 350z before and their YTS cant wait to get out on a test drive in it. From personal experience the only person I trust with my car is myself. If its something I really cant do then I find a local specialist.

Me & my mates have a similar theory from our experiences along those lines. If the guy is one of these bad guys who probably is cheating on the girl and doesnt care less, maybe he lays the law down and is the dominant one in the relationship, then the woman has to make more of an effort to keep the bloke interested. That might be making sure she does her share around the house, maybe keeps him interested in the bedroom, make sure she doesnt get lazy etc. But if the bloke is clearly worshiping the ground she walks on and does everything for her then the woman now becomes the dominant one as she knows she doesnt have to now make any effort to keep the bloke. To avoid being called sexist im sure this happens the other way around also....

Well initially you do it because you love the other person and want to make them happy. But then after several years of the other half stealthily implementing a "changing program" you suddenly realise that you no longer are doing any of the hobbies or interests you loved doing before and are little more than someone who spends all day working or cleaning the house for a partner who is becoming more and more lazy. It then makes you feel really unhappy and depressed. Ive never tried to change anyone ive dated. If I didnt like them as they were then why would I date them in the first place. I remember once dating a girl who started piling on the weight and I did make the rookie mistake of mentioning it to her and suggesting maybe she would like to go running with me in the mornings etc. That (strangely enough) didnt go down well, so I never made that mistake again.

Interesting thread really. Some bits I agree with others I dont. From my experience I can relate to a lot of the things here, particularly the bird trying to change the bloke, and online dating etc. What I have noticed though with a lot of girls ive dated or have known at work etc, they start off all fit and sexy, then you start dating them and immediately they throw away all their sexy clothes, gain loads of weight and spend all their spare time watching telly on the sofa and dont make an effort. Had the bloke wanted a fat lazy bird he`d have gone for that in the start, so he dumps her. The bird then promptly looses loads of weight, starts dressing in sexy clothes again and finds another bloke. And repeat. Its quite funny really. Its like buying a 350z then 12 months later its turned into a 7.5 tonne lorry. If you wanted a lorry you`d have bought it in the first place. Im sure it happens the other way around too, but ive not known any of my male mates or workmates who have suddenly piled on 6 stone after starting dating someone and ive lost count of the amount of girls ive seen do this. The bird trying to "change" the bloke cartoon made me laugh. I had that exact thing happen to me once. I used to workout a lot, was in very good shape, also used to use my motorbike as my main mode of transport. Without being cocky, loads of birds at my workplace fancied me and used to call me Mr Pecs. Id have a bit of a laugh & joke with them. As a result, I seemed to create the impression of being a confident, ladies type of bad boy biker bloke... and i found that in turn seemed to attract more women. In particular one girl who I started dating and I fell for big time. Anyhow after a while she told me I was getting to big & muscly and she didnt like bodybuilder sized guys so I should cut back on working out - so I did. Then she said she didnt like my hair cut, clothes etc and changed them over a period of time. Then the motorbike was apparently too dangerous so I had to get a car etc... and the list went on & on. She totally changed me. At the same time she did the fat & lazy thing and prefered slobbing it on the sofa, whilst id always be trying to get us to do outdoor things like cycling or walking. To cut a long story short, she ended up lying and cheating on me with her ex who was a proper chavy bad boy. I found out and once I confronted her about it she dumped me and moved out so end of that. I was gutted. Then onto the online dating sites... After the above experience it took me ages to be confident enough to try and even meet another bird. A mate suggested joining an online dating site, so after a while I plucked up the courage to do so. It suggested possible matches who might be ideal for me and low & behold, one of those "matches" was my ex! I nearly fell off my seat. She used a picture id taken of her when she looked hot, and listed hobbies such as walking, cycling and that she enjoyed outdoor stuff etc. The only walking she ever did was from the fridge to the sofa and back. Anyway, it worked for her as she met some bloke on there and when I saw pictures of him I couldnt believe it. He looked exactly the same as how I did when we first started to date. Fit, action sort of guy, clearly did some serious working out in the gym and even had a motorbike. All the things she said she didnt like when we were together. Ive no idea if they are still together or not, but I do wonder if shes now tried to change him. I did meet up with a couple of birds from the site, but really none of them actually matched the type of person they tried to convey online. I do however know a couple of people who it has worked out well for, so it can work for some people.

Sounds like I need to download tinder then... Have to make sure the wife doesnt spot it though.

The standard dual airbox setup on the HR is a highly developed ram air system, which apparently gives the car an extra 9bhp or something at speed. The general consensus when I looked into modifying my HR was that the stock panel filter & air filter design was the best one to have. You could replace the filters with cosworth or hks ones but they gave zero performance benefits.

Ive never displayed one on any of my motorbikes. Not taken it out of the car window yet, will probably leave it in there until it expires.

Joined as I wanted to be part of the community after buying my HR Roadster - handy to be part of a forum for advice and help on any potential issues or questions. Wish sometimes id joined first so I could have maybe bought a members car at a better price, but my zed purchase was a spur of the moment thing one weekend whilst out looking at BMW M3`s. Sold the zed a few years back, but have remained here as its one of the very few forums im a member off where everyone has a good laugh and are sound as a pound. (well most people. )

To be honest, as Ekona would point out the £200 (or whatever it is) extra tax is only a couple of tanks of petrol at the end of the day. And if its a nice car then its worth that extra cost. Saying that though, it did used to really pain me giving DVLA nearly £500 a year to tax my HR when I had that. Esp when some mates had cars which were £15 or £30 a year tax.
-
Amazing how cheap the zed is to insure now. When I got my 313 HR a few years back, The cheapest I could find was about £1100. That was for a 40 year old bloke, clean license and 20 years ncb, living in a quite cul-de-sac full of retired pensioners! I also had no end of companies refuse to insure me or offer offer ridiculously high quotes. They all seemed to have something against the zed as the same companies were quoting me £400 for a lambo gallardo, £600 for an M3 and about the same for a new Nissan GTR - so it was all down to the car rather than the driver.
-
If I remember correctly 2006 was the change over year for the road tax. so some 2006 cars will be lower tax than others. Also dealers sometimes register cars late, so we have seen some non HR 2008 registered cars, so they would have high tax but none of the benefits the HR brings. So it may well be it was pre facelift but registered late in 2006.

Ive still got one of them in a drawer somewhere!

Half the time i never use the clutch anyway when driving. You can tap it out of gear just by easing off the throttle, then if you get the revs matched right, it will slip straight into the next gear.

Ive had big discussions about this with various insurance companies over the years as I own several cars & motorbikes and was trying to find a way in which I could be covered to use them all without it costing me a fortune. The insurance companies all said that the "drive any other vehicle" cover, if on the policy, is third party only on the other vehicle. The other vehicle must not be owned by you and must already have its own insurance policy on it. They would typically give the example thats its typically so you can drive a mates car if in an emergency or to try it out. I also enquired about trader insurance, thinking maybe I can get one policy to cover me on all my vehicles but then found that most trader policies dont cover both car & motorbikes, they are seperate. Also you have to be registered as a trader, and then as such have to have liability insurance and all sorts of extra stuff. The quotes I did get ended up costing the same as setting up 4 new separate insurance policies (2 with no ncb as I could only use that on one vehicle). It does mean now that I have 4 separate lots of NCB and 4 separate policies which gets a bit confusing at renewal time. IMO insurance should be on the person and not tied to one vehicle. They should risk assess the individual, taking into account his driving history, record, experience etc... the same as they do now. Then look at the highest risk vehicle that person is going to be driving, then give a price based on that. You then should be allowed to drive any lower risk vehicles for free. So for example, if I had a £50k lambo and wanted to buy a £200 old banger to use in the week, leaving the lambo locked up in its secure garage, really the insurance company should be over the moon as statistically id have thought it would be a much lower risk of me crashing the lambo over the 12 month period. On the other hand, they might see it as if im only driving the lambo at the weekends im maybe going to be driving it harder than if im stuck on the a14 in stationary traffic..... who knows!

Thats good advice.....

Having watched a mate try to bend/snap my GS4 and fail miserably (dont ask) and having a billet aluminium HTC One M8 in my pocket that you can drive over without bending it, I dont really accept that TBH. These guys tested a whole bunch of smart phones including htc & samsung and found that the iphone 6 was the only one to bend out of the ones they tried. http://gadgets.ndtv....-results-597662 Also it doesnt appear its because of people putting phones in their back pockets and sitting on them, its apparently happening when phone is kept in front pocket (like i keep mine) for long periods of time.

I found it the other way around. I have a NAS box at home with all my films, music, books etc on. On all my windows laptops/htpc and on all my android devices (phones, tablets) etc.. in fact on everything I have, I can just browse over my home network to the NAS and stream films, music etc directly to my device. I can even copy mp3`s over to my phone to listen to if I want to off-line. When the wife got her ipad she wanted to do the same. I figured it would be a simple easy case of opening up the file brower and browsing to the NAS box.... however, firstly it wouldnt allow you to actually see any windows networks. I had to download (and pay) for an app which let you browse and see the windows network. Great I thought, now I can just double click on the film like you would normally do and watch it. No. Apparently apple doesnt like you viewing any other media file formats other than its own. So then after spending some time googling I then had to download (and pay) for yet another app in order for the ipad to be able to view divx or whatever format the movie was in. What was a simple every day thing I have taken for granted as ive been able to do for as long as I can remember turned into a complete hassle and waste of an evening. Its just an example of how apple try and force you to do things their way. Bit like every single device I have seems to use the same micro usb charging lead, its kind of an industry standard now. Except for apple. They refuse to use it and keep coming up with their own sockets. I did read that they were developing their own version of the normal USB socket too. God knows why. I remember when my wife first got her very first iphone. iphone 3 I think it was. Normally we used to just copy contacts to the sim card, stick sim card in new phone and copy them back to the phone. Nice and easy. Her phone had non standard sized sim card so couldnt do that. No problem I thought, lets just send them as business cards from the old phone to the new. Nope, iphone didnt use standard business cards so didnt recognise them. How about sending them via bluetooth. Nope. apple used non standard blue tooth so wouldnt pair with old phone. We must have tried 4 or 5 ways of getting them over. In the end I had to manually create each and every contact as a new contact in her iphone and key the phone numbers in. Again, another whole evening wasted as something which normally is a quick 5 minute job on every other phone ive had was a nightmare because apple decided to do things how it wanted and force you down that path. Once we got the phone all up and running we then realised that due to apples non standard bluetooth it also wouldnt pair with her car or her hands free earpiece. So we had to then go out and buy "apple approved" from the apple store. Sigh!
