Cough ! excuse me ? Oh I remember now ... yes ... the car that defined 'What a load of SH!TE' One of the worst handling cars ever apparently. I remember speaking to a Rover engineer who worked on it and even they were shocked at how bad it was. The brother in law had a 220 tomcat as his first car and he had loads of fun in that.

Depends on which model of 911 turbo you go for but with a few tweeks they can be as involving as other cars, although I find that like a lot of turbo cars, you dont have to wring its neck to get places extremely quickly. So for some roads, you would be better off with a non-turbo car, or one with less power which you need to properly thrash which makes you feel more involved in the drive. Again its personal preference and depends on what you want to use it for. For me, if im just driving to work, I can leave it in 6th from 40 upto err... silly speeds and just a prod of the accelerator will get the car moving very quickly, even when your overtaking etc. so you can be quite lazy. However, if I feel im in more of a speed demon mode then in sports mode, just dropping it down to 3rd or 4th (depending on what speed your doing) and flooring it and the cars ballistic. A bit too ballistic for a lot of roads as you find you end up constantly on the brakes. Looks are quite subjective, but I think the 911 turbo does look pretty good with its wide arches & boot spoiler etc. compared to other 911`s (outside of those with aerokits). I certainly notice mine gets a lot of looks when im driving it, however it is also subtle enough to sit on my drive and not cause much undue attention. So whilst not as mental looking as a lambo, its kinda the best of both worlds to some degree. Is yours a manual or tip? I'd be interested to hear how you like the tip (If it is - as the manual 997.1's are well out of range, but a tip probably just about is)... sorry everyone, thread hijack! Mines the manual. I've never owned an automatic car which was the only reason I went for the manual, albeit they were a good few grand more than the tiptronic ones. However, tbh I think I would have found the tip perfectly fine. Theres a lot of talk about how rubbish they are, but ive also read threads where you can reset it and in sport plus mode they are really good. You can add the flappy paddle`s to those ones which have buttons if you want, plus the clutch/box can handle more power than the manual, and tuners can remap the box to change gear even quicker etc. The cars just got so much torque/power that it suits the tip really well. I think a lot of the bad press is that the pdk which followed it is so very good.

I used to run 4 or 5 miles 3 times a week. Id get up at 6am and be out the door running by 6.15. Such a great feeling that time of morning, no traffic about and the only people you`d see are the odd dog walker. Id be back home, in the shower and ready for work long before the wife even woke up. For me I love pushing myself, whether thats in the gym or running, so id stick my headphones on, and try and beat my best time. Some mornings id get back and the temperature would be -4 degrees. I remember my neighbour trying to defrost his car one morning and he was staggered that id been out running in that sort of temperature. Unfortunately then kids came along and now, whilst I still wake up at 5.30/6am I have to look after them until the wife gets up at 8am. Then its a mad dash for me to get showered & off to work.

Yep. But with them being virtually depreciation free / going up in value, the extra outlay in purchase price might be justifiable.

Well, when I was facing a similar dilemma last year I ended up with a 997.1 Turbo. I use it as my daily, its left on my drive regardless of the weather and I have racked up 10k miles in 9 months. I used it all winter. So certainly no garage queen. Maybe I am mad, but for me it ticked all the boxes as well as being a very practical car. I can get the 2 kids in the back without any problem, can get 2 weeks of groceries/shopping in the trunk, its returning 26mpg on my daily commute and is nippy enough to be fun. I didnt bother with any survey or porsche warranty. I just made sure I bought it from a very well respected indi who knew their stuff. So far, only problem I have had was a couple of engine sensors going faulty. Sensors were £12 each, but you virtually had to drop the engine to fit them, so labour cost £200. Still, I didnt think that was excessive especially as they gave the car a full valet at the same time. The only faults with the 997.1 turbo is I found the stock suspension terrible. It might be that I came from a 1 series M-Sport which had very firm suspension, but I found the stock mode on the 997.1 to be far to bouncy and the sport mode was ridiculously hard. However, I solved the problem with an aftermarket suspension control module which totally transformed the car. Now the modes are perfect. Normal is ideal for sporty driving and sport is now totally usable on dodgy UK backroads whilst being firmer. The aging sat nav in the 997.1`s is the main thing people notice and it does look ancient compared to new stuff. I fitted a bluetooth module and just use my phone for everything instead. Sav nav on my phone is miles better than any car one, I stream my music over and all the audio comes out of the porsche system. So I really only use the oem system as an audio amp. Its a bose system, pretty bassy but doesnt sound too bad. Other than that I have found myself browsing tuning company catalogs recently......... must resist..... wahahahahaa!

hmmmm.... we have those same death trap banisters (god knows what they were thinking of doing them like that) and they werent flagged up on my survey. I feel ripped off now.
-
Not to mention anything the survey might flag. My house survey said that the consumer unit wasnt up to modern standards. Which of course it wasnt as it was fitted back in 1970 and whilst it wasnt the same as what they would fit now it was perfectly fine. However, the mortgage company demanded that I have a separate full electrical survey of the house done because of this. Likewise, the house survey flagged that there was a bit of damp in the old lean-to on the side of the house. Again of course there was, it was a f**king lean-to separate to the house and there was no damp in the actual house. But sigh, the mortgage company then demanded a full damp test of the whole house. etc. etc. etc. Not wanting to put the OP off mind you!

When I bought my current place my lender changed their mind at the last minute also. The problem I had is that in order to make moving house easier as I have so many toys/cars/motorbikes etc, I decided the best way was to buy the new house, move my stuff over, then sell my old one. Initially the lender had no problem with this, then they got all cold feet about me having 2 mortgages. It made me laugh. the total mortgages outgoing was less than I had been paying just for the one mortgage and would be something like 1/4 of my monthly incoming. So it was hardly a case of not being able to afford it. But, they (and a lot of the other lenders I subsequently tried) just had a policy about someone having 2 mortgages and potentially an empty house waiting to be sold. In the end I found a decent financial adviser who managed to get me a mortgage with some obscure bank/building society, but it gave me a few grey hairs right at the final stage of trying to buy the property. That and the fact the property wasnt on the land registry website so they had to workout the "official" boundaries and add it manually to the electronic system....

What I hate most about buying a house is the constant chasing of the solicitors. Its as if they are next to useless and sit there waiting for you to call them before they actually do anything.

I said on another thread, but I really wouldnt worry about your hair. I crop mine number 0 and it looks great, makes me look about 15 years younger and hides any grey hairs! But, if its only just started happening I can see it must be a bit of a shock and will take some getting used to. I dunno how much the hair treatment costs, but Calum Best had a couple of sessions and his hair looks good now. Rooney did too. Ive just had 4 weeks of being ill. Cold after cold, so low energy & feeling like crap. Also not having any spare time outside of family & work commitments I only been able to have 1 workout a week this last 4 weeks which has been a right pain. Mad how its taking me a whole month to exercise the whole body when I used to hit it twice a week at one point. Anyhow I did squats & deadlifts on Sunday and pushed it really hard as i was so angry with not having any workouts that the doms today are killing. I really am struggling to walk and trying to sit on the loo or get in the car was a killer! At least my diets been spot on, but weighed myself yesterday and ive lost 6lb. Its like 1 step forward and 5 back. Still, feels like this current cold is virtually gone, and so I am hoping that I can up the workouts and intensity. Fingers crossed.

Im not usually a fan of topgear, but saw it last night and quite enjoyed it. Was made all the better by the fact they had a 911 turbo on there. I did feel that the presenters could flow a little better, it seemed a bit too scripted when they were talking to each other. I felt that it needs a bit more of a relaxed mates in a pub chatting kind of flow to it. But, once each presenter was on their own talking to the camera they were fine. The GT86 was a great idea and I remember seeing the sliding the car through the cut out whilst I was at BMW buying my 1 series back in 2011, they had a video of someone sliding an 1M through a cutout on an airfield playing on their screens. Looked very impressive. I might actually set it to record now and see what the next episode is like.

It looks like there are a good few for sale on ebay atm. Personally, I wouldnt do a "buy it now" listing on ebay. When I sell cars / motorbikes on there, I just start the listing at 99p, no reserve and thats it. I find that always catches peoples attention. If they can see other 350z Roadsters on there with the sellers wanting £7k or £6k, then that sort of sets in the buyers mind that that is the typical price, so they think that may be able to get a bargain. They will watch the car and bid on it. In reality, the car will always sell for the market price, which may well be £6k or more. Sometimes bidders will get carried away and the car will make more than they could have bought one else where for by doing a "buy it now". You will obviously get a few idiots asking if you will take £1000 for it etc, but its not hard to just ignore them.

Step Children and relationship break ups....

Contemplated this since I'm starting to recede. Never had really short hair though, so it'd be a huge leap to go to shaved. Not idea if I have the head shape to pull it off either. You dont have to go all Telly Salvalis with it and bic it, just crop it with a set of sheers from argos. Number 1 or 0 is fine. Nice and easy and looks well smart. I started by cutting my hair shorter and shorter in my early 20`s until I just though f**k it and just did the lot. So much easier. Wife spents ages drying her hair and mine is dry before ive got out of the shower. Women love it too. Cropped hair = manly apparently. -

Man, with all due respect, get a grip on the balding thing. Just shave your head or give it a number 0 all over. Ive done that for years, purely because as a biker the crash helmet used to mess up my hair. Now im reseeding a bit noone notices. Look at the Rock, he shaves his head. Looks fine. I find I look about 20 years younger when my heads cropped with a number 0. Been so long since I saw my hair that when my hair grows and its grey i end up aging about 20 years over night! Some of my mates get proper stressed that they are loosing their hair, but I can honestly say its never bothered me in the slightest. Mate of mine once went out with a bird who had the most annoying voice ever, so he only took her to nightclubs where he couldnt hear her. -

And they make my blood boil. I was working at home the other day and the wife had the day time telly on for 8 hours and advert after advert was portraying the woman as cooking, cleaning, looking after the kids, doing all the housework. I nearly threw up as I do all that in our house. Talk about sexist. Woah. Hold on. Whats wrong with you. TBH id just go out with her. You dont have to jump into bed with her, but you can have a laugh (non bedroom related) and start building up a few relationships with women. Chances are she has some female mates, who may not be as loose as her. Either way, nothing to loose! -

Ive not really seen any of that sort of stuff recently. Whenever I look in the paper or watch the telly its full of people saying women should "embrace their curves" and saying how good they look, when in reality they are just morbidly obese. Its as if they are trying to convince overweight people that they are fine and thats normal. Then you see pix of whatever celeb might be fashion of the month and 9/10 they are a bit porky, then go on a fitness camp etc... then get porky again and repeat. Then if you do get someone who actually is into the gym and really looks after themselves, they get slated as "disgusting" etc.... like Chloe Madingley etc.. -

Ooer. Last time I went for a "massage" the girl was very enthusiastic and actually told me mine was the biggest she`d ever seen. Ive noticed this too, loads. Even on stuff like Peppa Pig. The dad comes across as some sort of idiot who fails at everything he does, whereas Mummy Pig is perfect and saves the day. Then you have Miss Rabbit who is so clever she has like 1,000 jobs etc... All brainwashing toddlers that men are useless and women can multitask and do everything perfectly. On the other hand 35, not good looking and going bald never hurt people like Jason Statham! -
Most of the time these are 30/40 roads for a reason ie schools houses industrial areas with lots of junctions, so I agree you should be sensible in these. But I do prefer to sit at 80 on motorways when I don't have cruise control, don't know why. With CC I can sit at 70 all the live long day quite happily Around my way they seem to either sit in 30mph zones, (which fair enough, if you speed in a 30 then your an idiot), but also sit on nice backroads where they know on a Sunday afternoon people will be out for a spirited drive. Last year I remember one day in particular when I was out on my Ducati when I actually went past 3 speed traps all on the same road. They were hidden behind trees/bushes just after the 30mph speed limit turned into national speed limit. They were clearly trying to catch bikers who might sit religiously at 30 in a 30, but then open it up on the quiet national speed limit stretch. One trap I could understand, but 3 on the same day within about a 5 mile radius. Mad. Luckily I spotted them before hand. Have to say the coppers looked gutted, as they must have heard my exhausts for miles away approaching only to find I was doing 55 in a 60
-
They clearly just see this as a way of generating even more cash through speeding fines. Currently if you get caught and as long as you werent doing some silly speed then its likely going to be a £100 fine and points. If they can up that to 75% of someones weekly income, then even if your only on £25k a year its going to be a lot more than £100. Its all about just making money for them and not making the roads safer. If they wanted to make them safer then they should be out there cracking down on dangerous drivers, not speeders.

Thats what my ex said when she moved out...... and moved in with her ex a few days later. Not in our house it isnt. Im married. -
I think as you get older you do become much more forgiving towards other drivers. I know I just let them get on with it and happily slow down or let them out etc. Whereas the wife would happily hit the horn at them for ages etc.
