Sold our Juke Nismo as spacious it was not. Pushchair only fit in the boot if you took the wheels off and with a rear facing car seat the front passenger had their knees up by there ears. Did you not know you could remove the cardboard/wood boot base and the cavinous space under that literally doubled the size of the stock boot? We had our juke for 4 years from new - was one of the first people in our area to buy one. We took it on our yearly 2 week holiday down to Cornwall each year, and with a new baby at the time, had to take push chair, travel cot, blankets, milk, bottles, billions of nappies, food, toys, not to mention enough clothes for 2 adults for 2 weeks. We used the passenger seat to store more stuff and the 2nd adult sat in the back to keep the baby/toddler entertained. Cant say I noticed any lack of room in passenger seat with baby seat behind it during normal use, but we may have had a different seat on our ISO base. Whilst the OP said he doesnt like the American look of the Ford Edge, id highly recommend one. We got one before Christmas and it really is a tank, can fit 2 pushchairs in the boot without even noticing them. Prior to that, we upgraded from the Juke to the Ford Kuga when we got baby 2, but I never really liked the Kuga. We looked at the alternatives to the Edge and just couldnt justify the extra cost. To top it up, the insurance on the Edge was actually cheaper than the older Kuga it replaced. Speaking of insurance if you are planning to keep the 350z then you`ll have no NCB to use on the SUV which may make it a bit steap, unless your missus has her own NCB she can use. The boot was poorly designed as it wasted space with the false floor and the massive plastic spare wheel tray that just held a can of tyre gunk on the Nismo, making it deeper didnt really help us though. We didn't want the hassle of playing Tetris every time we went out shopping with the pushchair so upgraded to a 520d M Sport Tourer. Fair enough. With the floor & plastic wheel tray removed on our juke, we used to get our entire buggy/pram thing (oyster) under the floor of the boot without removing any wheels etc. Then with the fake floor replaced it gave you the whole boot still. Anyway, still nowhere near as roomy as a 520d Tourer

When I used to have my zed I found pretty much noone used to wave back. People who did see me wave just looked really puzzled.

Mad, at risk of sounding like an old man, when I was 22 I was driving a 850cc Austin Mini which cost me £20 as I just couldnt afford anything else! The mere thought of having a 3.5litre v6 sports car was but a dream!
-
Worth noting that if you ever need to MOT the car, the drivers seat has to be able to slide forward and back - even if its a fraction. Passenger seat can be fixed. Ive no idea why, as surely as long as the driver can reach the pedals/controls perfectly fine then who cares! But those are the rules.

Soon to be ... dady ... and zed

Ah a man after my own heart. I went out and bought a Ducati 996 just days before baby number 1 arrived, then before baby number 2 arrived last year I sold my "sensible" 1 series and bought a Porsche 997 turbo as the new "practical family car". -
Can't get a reasonable quote for love no money?!
rabbitstew replied to luka761's topic in Forum Discounts
Its all down to statistics and ive tried many times to understand them. The people who work for insurance companies dont understand them either whenever ive tried to get them to explain various things to me. When I got my zed, the cheapest price insurance companies were quoting me was over twice the price they were quoting me for a Nissan GTR or a Lamborghini Gallardo. Both much quicker, faster cars ,and in the Lambo`s case it was worth something like 6 times the amount my zed was. All other details were the same - same ncb, location, job etc. I just assumed it was because statistically zeds were a higher insurance risk. Same thing when I got my Yamaha R1. I didnt want an R1. I wanted an old Honda Fireblade just to thrash about on. A mate was selling one for £1500 at the time. Insurance companies wouldnt touch me on it and if they did they wanted mega money. However, they would happily insure me on brand new, much quicker, much faster R1 for the pricely sum of £100. So I went out and bought one. Go figure! In general though I have found insurance does increase every year, even after the usual games your existing insurer will play come renewal time. Its just one of those things. The industry knows you have to have insurance by law and so they can make their own rules up. -
I have never been brave enough to jet wash an engine bay. I think it mainly stems from my classic mini days when any little bit of water would cause the car not to start. I used to dread rainy days. In fact a popular mod back in the day was to cut the ends of the fingers of a marigold glove and then stick it over the distributor, feeding each lead through a "finger" in an effort to stop any water getting to it. I usually just use some engine degreaser on hard dirt, then wash it off with petrol.

Good luck with this. I fondly remember doing the exhaust on my 22k miles 4 year old 350z. The entire under side looked lke it had been submerged under sea for 1000 years. The nuts and bolts holding the exhaust just sheered off despite lots of delicate persuasion. Ended up spending hours drilling out the studs which connect the catback bit to the rest of the system. Argh!

Modern Cars with Fake Exhaust Exits - Thoughts?
rabbitstew replied to colesl4w's topic in Other Cars
I noticed this a long time ago. I think the space ship civic with the triangle ones was the first one I noticed, but it seems its the norm now. Doesnt bother me one way or another tbh, but I think it does look a bit silly. -
6 owners over 4 years is a bit different though. A lot of people buy cars like these just for the summer and so only have them 1 year. You find that a lot, especially with niche cars. People just want to tick the box and say they have owned one.

eBay dispute. Resolved, but any comments welcome...
rabbitstew replied to Aashenfox's topic in Off Topic Discussion
If I remember correctly, sellers can not actually give buyers negative feedback. You used to be able to, which was a great way to identify potential bad buyers, but then ebay changed the rules so you cant. You can give positive or nothing. So then the seller has the dilemma do they give a positive feedback for a negative experience but put comments in reflecting this, or just dont bother giving any feedback at all. -
Holy cow! Thats some going! I do wonder why tho? Maybe owner 3 has created some problems with it.

Woah!!!!! What a friend! I hope you are returning the favour and letting him borrow your BMW for a weekend!

Saw the episode with the golf and the db11 last night and have to say I really enjoyed it. Miles better than the last episode which I watched. The hosts seemed much more relaxed and worked together much better than I saw previously. When they talked it all seemed to flow naturally and didnt come accross awkward like they were following a script. The muck shredder bit seemed a little odd on a car show, but I thought it was great and a good laugh. Cant wait to watch the next episode.

Its mad. When I bought my HR GT 313 Roadster back in 2010, I searched and there was only 3 within 100 miles of my house. One was snapped up within minutes, the other I didnt like the colour off and the 3rd I immediately drove about 80 miles to see it and snapped it up there & then. It later transpired that another bloke was already in the process of negotiating a deal on it but as I was a cash buyer and had no part-ex, the dealer decided to sell it to me. This was when these were up for £16k!!!! Demand seemed really high and supply was very low as they are quite rare cars. The dealers knew this and refused to budge a penny on the asking price. Then back in 2012 when I came to selling mine, I noticed that things had changed. For some reason people just werent snapping them up and some people had been trying to sell theirs for months with no interest. Rather than being stuck trying to sell my mint car, I ended up part ex`ing mine at a BMW dealer for £9k, loosing £7k in just 18 months. £5500 does seem a bargain these days for one, they really are cracking cars and great fun. Especially on days like today when the sun is out, i quite miss mine!

Paint Respray - changing from solid to metallic
rabbitstew replied to Colin747's topic in Paint & Protection
Hmmm... i dont think ive ever seen "metallic" on a v5. They just state the colour. So my car is technically metallic black but im pretty sure the v5 just says "black". And the wifes car is actually a mad metallic gold colour but the logbook just says "orange". Its only if you actually change the colour you need to tell DVLA - so change from black to silver or red to blue etc. -
It can be a bit frustrating but just how it goes unfortunately. I sold a lovely Golf GT TDi back in around 2010. It had every option on it and id loved/cared for it for 4 years. It had 80k miles on it when I got it and something like 176k on it when I sold it. Last year I thought id do a DVLA check, just out of interest, to see if it was still going and sure enough it was.... but with only 150k on the clock! Checking through the MOT history, it looks like the bloke who bought the car off me must have clocked it down to about 70k straight away, then probably resold it for double what he paid. Unfortunately the online MOT history doesnt go back to when I had the car so you cant see the mileage magically dropping between MOT`s. So whoever has the car now probably has no idea its done 100k more miles than its showing.

Edd Heads For Door Marked 'Do One' at Wheeler Dealers
rabbitstew replied to Stutopia's topic in Off Topic Discussion
If I remember correctly though that was in one of the early series`s when they were still based in that crappy small lockup. It made me upset too as they then put the car in an auction and some bloke bought it for his son`s first car probably not realising that it had cut springs which can be quite dangerous. (actually an mot failure over here as they can dislocate easily). You can? I thought Ed`s Grease Junkie business went bankrupt last year owing about half a million quid to debtors? I used to be a die hard Wheeler Dealer fan and whilst, like most people, I hated the scripted fake buy/sale and tbh anything which Mike said or did, I loved seeing Ed work on the cars. In the early days he used to do some serious bodge jobs when he looked like he`d come straight out of school, but in the later shows they tended to do things properly - or at least "Paul" did, then Ed took the glory. Once the show went all American I lost interest and havent seen it since. The car show which Ant was on was pretty good, again, except for the annoying non-mechanic presenter, so it will be interesting to see the show pans out & what Ed gets up to next! -
Benching without clips sounds a bit dangerous if you ask me. I wouldnt fancy suddenly having some weights fall off one side of the barbell. Ive a power cage in my home gym and so I use that for any barbell stuff like squats & bench as I always train on my own. Prior to that I used to love it as id be training to near failure and nothing quite motivates you as much as having to get that last rep up else you`ll end up trapped under the barbell. I have used dumbells for bench press a lot lot more this last year and have noticed a big difference. Only problem I have with those is once you start getting to 90lb+ dumbells for the bench press I find it very hard to get them in position - even using the normal place them on knee and kick them up method. In the end I bought some power hooks which have resolved that problem.

If I remember correctly, if you forked out the extra cash for the GT pack, then on top of that for another £600 you could spec the Alezan Orange or the Frost colour seats. I think in general the majority of people just didnt like the frost seats so most either stayed with the GT leather seats or if they felt daring went for the Alezan Orange like my car had. Hence they are pretty rare.

Fair enough! Its also subtle enough looking that you can park it somewhere and not worry too much about it.

Hahaha! That was exactly my first impressions! I didnt realise he was a pensioner! Mad car, but surely when you factor in the running costs, depreciation, insurance etc you may have well just continued to use the 135i ?

Sounds like you had a lucky escape. I usually do all the work on my cars myself and tbh never re-torque nuts. Never had a nut come loose so far, but following this I think i`ll start re-torquing anyway just to be on the safe side.
