How to - Change front brake pads on Brembo (pic heavy)
rabbitstew replied to M13KYF's topic in 350Z Guides
Just done mine Friday night, and thanks to this guide it was nice and easy. Ive replaced pads on dozens and dozens of cars, and the brembos on the 350z were very easy to do. Looks like i didnt do them a minute too soon, the LH side paids were worn down to the metal! Just finished bedding in the ds2500`s and have to say wow... massive improvement over whatever pads were on the car before hand. -
I only wanted to build a garage! Update p2 O Yes
rabbitstew replied to Keyser's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I never bothered with planning or regs when I did my shed. And when I sold the house last year, the surveyors and solicitors checked and said because it was a wooden structure, its classed as tempary and so I didnt need to worry about it. -

Good ol` neighbours eh! I build a similar garage / workshop / conference centre at my old house, it was about 36ft square. You could easily get 3 cars in it anyway! Did same sort of constuction as you have. Re-enforced concrete base, then timber framed with inside skin and outside cladding. I kept the roof with a low pitch like yours to keep it low. Luckily for me, the neighbours son on one side helped me build it, so they couldnt complain, and the old pensioners the other side didnt care less what I did. The only complaint I had was from some old biddy 2 doors away who thought I was building a conference centre and she was worried about the parking for all the business visitors.... wtf! Having a decent shed like that tho is brilliant. I used to keep my gym in it, a project car and 3 motorbikes. Id still have enough room to drive another car in and work on it in comfort. I was planning to get a 4 post ramp, which is why i had the floor re-enforced, but never got around to it. -
99.9% sure i will be buying the 350Z Monday :-)

Doesnt hurt to offer, but if you are doing a part ex your flexibility will be less. Cant you just sell you car on ebay? Thats what i did. Dealer offered me 700quid for my old car. I sold it on ebay within 5 days for 2200quid. I always find car dealers are a hard bunch to deal with. They very seldom drop the price and if they do its only by a small amount. They would rather you walk away and they get stuck with the car, than sell it for a quick profit. When I was looking for my zed I found one at a dealer for 15k, I offered 14k and he said no and suggested 14850 was the best he could do. I walked. The guy then was stuck with the car and I saw it a few months later and it was down to 13k in the window! You would have thought in this day and age, a dealer would be keen to off-load a zed quick as not everyone can afford to run one. -
I dont like selling cars so ive had a few for a while. Currently ive got: 1972 Mini 850cc - Had this for 20 years now. 1988 Renault 5 GT Turbo - Had this for 14 years. 1994 Kawasaki ZXR750L2 - Had this for 13 years 1999 Yamaha R1 - Had this for 10 years now 1996 Honda VFR750F - Had this for 10 years also. Only had the zed since March, so thats the baby of the family. I really should get around to selling some of my toys, but hate all the hassle which goes with it.

Welcome to the world of the zed! Sound like you have found a nice one. I know people on here who only do 3000 miles in 12 months. Its nothing unusual. Some people only use them for a sunday driving car. As for selling so quick, well these are not cheap cars to run, same as any similar sort of car. Some people buy them and only have them for the summer, or sell them before a major service comes up. Its not just the zed this happens with, any expensive to run / maintain car is the same. I actually looked at a clio v6 a few weeks back, and it had had 8 owners in 10 years! (or something like that!) Everyone had fun in the car for a year, but just couldnt afford to keep it.

Picking an exhaust isnt easy. You could listen to clips on youtube, but nothing compares to hearing one in the flesh. Also, at a meet, you might think someones exhaust sounds ace, but try living with it for 2 months and see how you feel then. The one I would probably go for is the scorpian one. That seems to be excellent value for money, and sounds nice. Ive got the Japspeed K1 on mine, and it is a bit anti-social. Sounds ace though when your having a blast out, but maybe a bit too loud for daily use. T

Mate, I really dont think you will be finding a cheap quote anywhere soon, not if you are 21 and have 5 points. Some guys on here who are nearly 40 with clean licenses are paying nearly 1000quid.
-
1600quid?! Mother of god! My golf cost me 60quid all in for disks and pads.

thats where my car came from!!!!! eeeek!!!

my dad calls everyone "my duck". Unfortunately for me, whilst I love Scotland, the Scottish accent just sends shivers down my spine. One of my biggest clients is Scottish and I have to put up with their abuse every day of the week on the phone. So now when I hear a Scottish accent it immediately puts my back up. Why they giving you abuse? You not doing your job right? Maybe the English accent makes him feel the same and that's why he's giving you abuse? Nar, we are doing our jobs fine, but they are one of these customers who thinks by shouting they will get what they want quicker.

Another anti scam... BUT WITH A DIFFERENCE! :O

Brilliant. I remember reading one last year where they convinced the scammers they were a modeling agency and got the scammers to send saucy pictures of their girlfriends through and made the guys shave their chests! lol -
Yep, I used to do 35,000 miles a year commuting into work on motorbikes. Ended up ruining 2 bikes with all the miles. In the winter your bike would get covered in salt and dirt and you`d have to wash it daily. Id get through a back tyre every 4 weeks and a front every 6 weeks. If it rained, id have a waterproof all-in-one, but you`d still get soaked. In winter, id get to work and not be able to feel my fingers for about an hour due to the cold. Not to mention, having to get changed into your leathers at both ends, having car drivers cut you up and having to be mega alert all the time. Even then I still got knocked off my bike twice by other car drivers. The bikes I used tended to have a 120mile range on the tank, so id have to fill it up every day which added to the commuting time. For me it ruined what used to be a fun weekend activity as after riding the bike all week the last thing I wanted to do was to go out for a ride at the weekend. I even tried to get around this by having 2 motorbikes. One sports-tourer with a larger fuel tank and longer wearing tyres for the daily commute and a sports bike for the weekend. But even that didnt really work for me. In the end I bought a cheap old Peugeot 106 Diesel for 800quid on which tyres lasted 40,000miles rather than 2000 miles and returned 55mpg. Sure I got stuck in traffic, but it was much more relaxing and cheaper to run! Overall, by getting into work early and leaving late, and factoring in fueling, getting changed, my commuting time was about the same. Still, at one point I was using a brand new Ducati 748SPS with marchini magnesium race wheels, termini race cans and a superchip for my daily commute which certainly got you to work with a smile. I even had strap on knee sliders in case I wanted to pop out in my 3 piece suit at lunchtimes! Ah... memories!

I have had a similar problem with my motorbike. I have a private plate on it. The bike itself still has finance recorded against it by HPI even though the previous owner cleared that 8 years ago. When I HPI check it, the bikes original plate shows up clean with no history. But, my private plate which I put on a couple of years back now shows as having finance recorded against it! Can you telephone HPI and speak to some one to find out more information regarding the recorded information. They should be able to tell when this happened and maybe what vehicle it was against. HPI are not accurate a lot of the time. I have also bought cars I have known have been written off, and yet when I check with HPI they come up clean. Also, if in doubt, on a car like that, I would have an AA inspection or something similar. If it really has been written off in the past then I am sure there would be some giveaway signs on the car somewhere.

I will check with them on the phone. Using their online quotation form, it specifically says the NCB is per car. But, out of interest, if I put my 18 years NCB down on the golf as well as on the 350z, it actually keeps the 350z at 570quid and knocks 34% off the golfs`s quote, bringing it down to £331 which is more than the 250quid a year I pay for it with Adrian Flux. It will be interesting if an insurance company lets you use your NCB on both cars. All the ones ive ever spoken to havent let me, which is why ive ended up with 3 separate insurance policies, with 3 separate lots of NCB! If companies now do this, it would make life so much easier!
-
Possibly, I will give them a try. Ive just got a quote just now from Admiral Multicar to see if it had changed since I checked a couple of months ago. You can still only use your NCB on 1 vehicle, so with me putting my 18 years ncb on my 350z its coming back as 570quid to insure that. Then with my old golf tdi as a 2nd car, worth only about 1800quid, its quoting me as 500quid extra on top to include that. So, it is over 1000quid to insure both vehicles. Seems ridiculous that they are quoting me the same to insure a banger of an old diesel as they are the 350z. Out of interest, if I then add the missus`s car (which she is paying 500quid to insure atm), then Admiral also add another £500 to the policy. So £1500 to insure 3 cars. All in all, I can get cheaper prices by insuring them all separately on confused.com, so it seems admiral are offering no discount for insuring all the cars with them compared to other companies. EDIT: Couldnt find LV`s multicar policy on their website, so got a quote for the 350z on its own and they come back with a premium of £885 for the year, with a £650 excess!!! Nice!
