Pies, lovely lovely pies, pie appreciation thread
rabbitstew replied to Willy P's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I'm told the roast chicken pie is the one to go for The waitrose roast chicken one or the waitrose heston roast chicken, ham & leak one? The heston one sounds amazing... whereas the waitrose roast chicken one loose suspiciously like the tescos deep fill chicken one. Have to admit I prefer my steak pies however. But, if i remember in the week i`ll pop down Waitrose for you! -

I think Pie standards have increased drastically over the last 10 years, apart from the good (or bad) old Frey Bentos pie which seems to remain the same (speaking of which, they are on offer for £1 a pie down Netto). I know ive been very impressed with the Tesco pies of late. I just wish there was more selection, they seem to all have the established "favourites" like steak and onion, chicken and veg etc.. Would be nice to see more pigeon or rabbit pies. Luckily I make my own game pies, but sometimes you want that convenience of opening a packet and bunging it in the oven when your late home from work. Can you write a blog on the waitrose chicken pie. I hear it is the pie of kings. hmmm.. ive just had had a tesco deep filled chicken pie and im not too impressed - ive updated the blog with my review. There is a waitrose down the road from me, but I dread to think how much their pies cost.... but I think i`ll have worked my way through all the tesco pies by the end of the month, so may have to move onto waitrose!!! -
Take a good look at the belt as it may be damaged. Sometimes the pulleys get worn so there are some play in them which can cause it, or like in my case, the belt can just be randomly worn on side after just 21k miles. Replacing them is really easy DIY job, nice guide on here somewhere for it.

You certainly can. I sold my mk4 golf tdi a few months back for around the 2k mark. I really wanted to keep it to use in the week to reduce the mileage i`ll be putting on the zed, but the insurance was the deciding factor which forced me to sell it. In my case, the insurance company wanted £500 to insure it as a second vehicle. Running costs, the golf was costing me £10 a day less than the zed on fuel, so thats £200 a month id save. Tax on the golf was £230, tyres lasted 40k miles, servicing was £100 a year, £50 a year for MOT. And there would be around £500 a year depreciation on the car. So costs of running a mk4 golf as a shed, excluding the purchase price, would have cost me nearly £1500 per year. Id save around £200 a month on fuel, so it would take 8 months before id actually break even. And should a big bill come in on the golf like a cambelt or clutch then that would add £400 to the annual cost, meaning id only actually save £400 a year, so for me it was hardly worth it. I did consider getting something even cheaper, but again, the insurance is the killer.

Excellent! Sounds good to me, will have to keep a note of them if i need any work.

Its just one of those things which seem to have become a "must have". When I was looking at BMW m3`s, any without the build in sat nav were between £1000 and £1500 cheaper!!!! as it was something *everyone* wanted for some reason. God knows why as you can get a tomtom for 70quid and use that instead.

Anyone remember the hot wheels tracks from the 80s

I think it all boils down to the price really. Personally I wouldnt be bothered if a car didnt have the GT pack if it was the right price as you could just fit a decent stereo and maybe some aftermarket racing seats or something if needbe. But for the difference in price the GT pack does seem good value for the bits it adds. The bose stereo is actually pretty good in my opinion, you wont believe the number of speakers it has and having a sub woofer behind the drivers seat gives you a big kick when the bass drops. You can easily wire an ipod or any mp3/phone up to it and mine sounds great through it. I have heard some bose units skip on cd`s but mines fine.

I remember these. In fact ive 2 complete sets in my loft which I got from my parents loft last week! Wonder if they are worth anything these days?! -
Sounds good. Love that pic on barr-techs website with them crouching next to a 30 year old Ferrari pretending they service them all day every day. You know some old dude has just taken it in there for a new lightbulb or something. Since I last posted on this thread I had the misfortune of experiencing Marshalls Cambridge and certainly would not be going back there any time soon, so I may well give barr tech a go when i need my service. As long as they are honest and know their stuff they should be okay. The mileage on mine is rapidly approaching its next service already. Done 8k since April.

rabbitstew replied to R35LEE's topic in 350Z General
That beer is nice tho, tried it a few weeks back! Bit too expensive for me tho, so im drinking some homebrew I made last month instead. 20p a pint cant be argued with for 5% strong lager. -
Coupe!!!!!! So thats what your plate says! Ive spent ages looking at it wondering what an earth it said. I assumed it might have been name related!

Ive got 3/4 tonne of scrap metal and a couple of horses you can deliver for me if you can..... -
+1 Diesel cars also require more regular servicing (Oil, filters etc) if you hope to keep them running for any significant time. Depends on the car. All my (non performance) cars, regardless of whether they were petrol or diesel always tend need a service every 10k. Prices were identical for the parts. And all need the same bits replacing on diesels as do petrol cars - i.e. oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter and fuel filter. In fact, diesels are cheaper to service as they dont need spark plugs replaced and the glow plugs which diesels have tend to last forever. Typically I buy all the listed bits for around the £50 mark and do the service myself (takes about 20mins). I think cars these days all handle high mileage really well, whereas years back it was regarded that diesels would last longer than petrols. Last 2 diesel cars ive had I sold when they hit 170k miles and both were still going strong.

With that 1.9 peugeot, assuming its the tdi one you`ll be lucky to get 50mpg out of it. They are really not very economical for diesels. My brother has one, my ex gf had one and my current gf has the 2.0hdi version, all of them seem to return about 48mpg. You`d need something like a golf tdi which will easily get you into the mid 60mpg range, and if your gf is as good as you say, she`ll probably be hitting the 70mpg mark - i know i did several times with my golf tdi on door-to-door journeys. Its a tough one really, but best to workout pence per mile for both vehicles. Include stuff like servicing, tyres, depreciation as well as insurance and fuel. For longer journeys id prefer the 1.9 diesel, smoother, more relaxing. But around town the 1.0 micra would be nippier, easier to park etc.

They are tough to sell unless the right buyer comes along. I was trying to sell my N13NJA plate for years and noone wanted it. I think it was because DVLA flooded the market with so many personalised plates that the resale market is quite poor unless you have something really special.
-
I was going to go for the sticker plate, but looking at the normal plate stuck straight on the bumper, maybe that option would be better. Didnt realise the sticker plates were illegal as ive used them on caravans, trailers and cars for years. The lettering / spacing is the same, but maybe its to do with the reflective background (or lack of).

Spotted DEATH on M1 between J4 and J5 tonight...
rabbitstew replied to Adrian@TORQEN's topic in 350Z General
Jesus, thats one serious brown trouser moment. Im dreading winter, last year was bad enough with a FWD, let alone the zed. I remember last year pulling onto a motorway and this M5 behind me pulled out to overtake me and just span it big time, he went spinning past me and into the crash barrier. Very scary stuff. -
They will see it as a giant scratching post if you put a cover on it. My cat easily shreds my arms when im playing fetch with it, so god knows what it would do to paintwork.

I was tempted myself as i work in Cambs. Shame they didnt have tyres on them, as I will need a new set of tyres soon and it would be cheaper to buy a 2nd hand set with tyres than buy some new ones. -
I think all Y back 350 systems will fit the HR, although the HR stock exhaust is supposed to be specially tuned for the HR engine both for sound and performance, so "apparently" is the best of the stock exhausts. I fitted the notorious japspeed K1 to my HR. Bolted straight on. No problems with it catching the diff or anything. Im pretty sure the baffles in this one maybe worn out as I measured 102db on my noise meter phone app just driving home yesterday, which would explain why im sure my hearing has got worse over the last few months...... Scorpian has very good reviews and looks and would be the one id be considering.
