Car advice please.. zed is gonna go
rabbitstew replied to lilsheepshagga_turbo's topic in Other Cars
Tough choice. I was going to say M5 until you mentioned the mpg. My god 9mpg is rediculous. The VXR8.... i drove the australian version of this when i was over there and just found it boring. I think id be looking at the RS4 or the M3. Both are incredible cars. Depends on what you want though really, as you have both 2 seater sportscars (vx220), big GT cars and 4 door family cars in your list! -
Just did a service on mine and took it for a quick drive around the block to make sure it was all okay. Seriously hot today so roof down. As I drove through the village a entire gang of kids nearly fell off their bikes as they saw me and jumped up shouting out "nice car mate!!!" and giving me the thumbs up! Made my day as there was a guy in a red boxster convertible 3 cars ahead of me and they totally ignored it! Then I called in the local tescos to fill up with petrol and the guy next to me filling his Vauxhall Zafira up, fully loaded with kids and nagging wife, kept giving my car sly glances when he thought I wasnt looking! Then when I looked in his direction he kept quickly looking away.

Yep, mines that shape.

I remember a guy years ago who was fed up of this sort of thing so he wired an electric cattle fence up to his sierra cosworth. He got prosecuted by the police for it.

Unfortunately in my experience that never happens. I know plenty of people who deserve bad things to happen to them but 20 years later and they are still happy as larry.

Totally agree. Little jealous scumbags should be shot. My missus`s car was covered in scratches when we got it, but we bought it like that. I used some really hardcore polishing / cutting stuff which has like sand in it. That and elbow grease managed to get a lot of the scratches out and make the rest look a lot less bad.

THE 100 GREATEST CARS OF ALL TIME ACORDING TO PH
rabbitstew replied to ATTAK Z's topic in Other Cars
My god, just looking through that list and it looks like someone has just randomly dumped them together. Renault 5 Turbo is in 81st position? Is that the GT Turbo which was a supercar slayer and practically the quickest, best handling hot hatch out there for 15 years or is it the original rear wheel drive one? If its not the GT Turbo then that should certainly be well up in the list there. As for Mini being number one... well, I love mini`s, have had no end of them and rebuilt more than I can remember with my own 2 hands. I certainly wouldnt have put that as number one. -
Ah, i see now. I just bought my shares outright and that was it, so no settling up in x number of days time. Seems quite complicated trying to keep track of which shares you bought on which time scales etc! Thanks.

Possible New 350z owner......

Looks brilliant in that colour. Has to be one of my fav colours. That would really stand out and get peoples attention. Price wise, i wouldnt bet on the dealer being flexible. When I bought mine they wouldnt drop the price by a penny. I tried every trick in the book and they just refused. I even walked away from one dealer and they still wouldnt drop. They would rather not sell the car and have to drop the price themselves than do a deal it seems. I did manage to get 6months tax thrown in on mine, but ended up having to pay full window price on it. -
I think you really have to drive both back to back over a few weeks to decide as they are totally different cars in my opinion. Most people on here who have gone from the 350 to the 370 love the 370 and dont regret it one bit. My experience of the 370 has been limited - I had a brand new 2011 one for a few days as a courtesy car. The one I had was the 7 speed tiptronic auto and was a roadster so I could compare it to my own roadster. The bits I loved on the 370 were the little things inside the car - like having a drinks holder in the centre tunnel, having auto up / down on the passenger side window, having the roof being fully electric rather than having to unclip it on the 350. Having the indicator do 3 clicks when you tap it like on the VW`s, having a touch screen sat nav rather than the button one the 350 has. Having speed camera alerts on the sat nav, having the bluetooth handsfree which Nissan decided to remove from the 350 roadster. The media connectivity already wired in. I loved the alloy wheels on the car, they looked mad. Bad points. I found the car boring to drive. It really did feel slower than my 350, it didnt give me the same buzz. The tiptronic auto took a bit of getting used to and the only time I loved it was when I was wringing the cars neck on bendy back roads. Apart from that I prefered my manual. Looks wise, the looks did not do it for me at all. The car looked too "sharp" and pointy - it looked more like the old school zed cars back in the day. Whereas the 350 looks wider and sleeker. I think infact the 370 is actually wider and shorter, so its just the styling makes it look the opposite. The ride on the 370 I had was also a lot harder than my 350. Finally I felt that my 350`s interior looked better with all the alloy bits - it looked more sporty and aggressive. The 370 felt more like an audi in side with black dash & controls. For me, the courtesy car I had was priced up on the forecourt for £36k (if i remember rightly) which made it £20k more than my 350z. Obviously mines 4 years old and the 370 was brand spanking new, but for me thats a lot of extra money and I dont think the plus points were worth it. If your thinking of one, id recommend trying a few out as you may love them. They are cracking cars.

Its a very sad day indeed when you sell a car. Still you have a great car to replace it with, the Golf TDI150 is cracking. I actually had the same situation but the other way around when I got my zed, I sold my Golf TD GTI115 after 4 years of ownership. Its funny as over that time you build up a relationship with the car and go through a lot together. I had done 90k miles in it, serviced it 9 times myself, replaced 2 sets of brake pads / discs, the lower wishbones, 2 sets of suspension, clutch pedal, indicator relay, brake switch, temp sender, exhaust, 3 sets of tyres and a few other bits. I did all the spanner work myself so I really get to know the car inside out. Id got through 3 different girlfriends in the same time as id owned the car! So, it was a sad day when I watched the new owner drive it away. Only consolation I had was I was replacing it with the zed.

How insurance companies work is they tend to give you a lower quote in year 1, then jack the price up for subsequent years as they know that a certain percentage of people cant be bothered to shop around and will happily pay the higher premiums. Its not just car insurance. I just had my home insurance renewal through from Tescos. £250. Quick phone call to them: Me: "Just had my renewal through for £250 and I can get it for £200 elsewhere" Tesco: "No problem sir we can match that" Its a pain that you have to take time out of your day to phone them up, and I agree, if they can do it for £200 for a start, why not save you the time and hassle and just offer you it for that in the first place. Just shows how much profit they make tho, if they can drop that much on the premium and still make a profit.

Yeah TT can be done but you have got to be a proper enthusiast and madly in love with a zed as well as having pockets full of cash to do it. You will never get your money back on the cost of the conversion, but you`ll end up with something different and rare. For the money I know id rather go out and buy a turbo car like a subaru or something.

Welcome. That worry everytime you hear a knock never ever goes away mate. If your like me, you get to "know" your car and you notice every little noise or vibration which doesnt sound normal. Then you start to worry..... My ex-missus on the other hand... I remember a few years back I got in her car and my god it was rattling like a tractor. Clearly cam belt tensioner had gone and the cambelt was not going to be long after it. I ask her how long it had been doing it and she replied "oh, its been like that for weeks - i just turn the stereo up to drown it out" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tdwaterhouse for me. Although most places will charge so much per deal or a monthly commission, so it can workout expensive if you are not buying / selling loads each month.

Welcome! I was down in Bournemouth a few weekends back... took the missus`s car tho... better fuel economy! -
I usually wait until I cant see any meat left on the pads when I look at them on the car. I usually keep an eye on them once they start looking low and buy the replacements in ready, so when I need to change its just a 30minute job. When I bought my car, the Nissan garage advised me I only had about 1000miles left on my pads. 10k miles later I noticed a very slightly different noise when I braked - not a grinding, more like a little rubbing. So, I swapped them out and one of the front ones was just about on the metal. Discs - depends on how much of a lip there is on them or how scored they are. You can see this just by looking. My discs have done 33k now and still look fine, so I didnt bother replacing them.

That was a must have for me to. I use it every day on the average speed routes on my daily commute and having used it for 5 years on my old golf tdi I just had to have it on the zed. That and the seats were the bits I wanted from the GT pack. The stereo, whilst mine sounds ace, you could easily bung in an aftermarket system as they are cheap as chips now.

Insurance is what is screwing me up on a shed. As others have said, id love to have just a 2nd car for winter & maybe some weekday use. I do 500miles a week in my zed. But all the insurance quotes I got, even so called "multi car policies" want about £500 to insure a "2nd car". Even when the 2nd car would be a sub £500 banger and I only want bare minimum insurance on it. Surely insurance companies would realise that if i am driving a £500 banger to work the risk on my zed having an accident whilst its parked up on my drive is drastically reduced and therefore they are actually benefiting! When you then factor in the road tax on the 2nd car, MOT, maybe tyres... it all adds up, but for me the insurance is by far the deal breaking factor here. The only way I could do it would be to physically take the zed off the road, transfer the insurance to a shed, cash the £450 road tax in, use the shed over winter, then swap them back when the weather picks up. But, that defeats the point really as id still like to use the zed if the weathers nice and there are only the odd few days when the weather is mega bad. Surely the insurance company should take the highest risk vehicle and base a premium on that, then allow the driver to drive any car up-to the same risk value as the main car covered only as third party insurance for free. After all you can only drive 1 car at a time, and if the risk is only 3rd party on the other vehicle then they will never pay out if its nicked or crashed so no extra risk to them, in fact a much lower risk if the 2nd car is in fact a shed.

You need to get someone who knows guitars to look at them and tell you what they think they are worth. Prices vary enormously, depending on year and where they are made. American made ones are worth more than those same brand ones made in japan or mexico Im not an expert unfortunately so cant help. I do have a Epiphone Zakk Wilde bulleye signed by the man himself sitting in my living room tho!

Same here, im getting married in June, and the way the missus is planning it I hope some of my shares come up trumps before then too!

If that was Charlie Sheen I guess he could claim it was for personal use over the w/end.
